GARDINER --- Mrs. Bertha E. Kelley, 75, died at her home, 108 Spring Street, Monday morning after a long illness.

Born in Vinalhaven, Sept. 9, 1877, she was the daughter of George L. and Frances Haskell Wheeler.
She is survived by her husband, John R., one son, Donald F., both of Gardiner; two cousins, William Wheeler of Augusta; Noyes Wheeler of Hallowell.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Women Council and New England Order of Protection.

Gardiner --- John R. Kelley, 79, died at Gardiner General Hospital early Saturday afternoon after being in falling health for the past several months.

He was born in Gardiner, July 4, 1877, the son of James and Ellen (Ryan) Kelley.

He is survived by his widow, Grace (Beane) Wheeler Kelly, of Gardiner; a son, Donald F. Kelley, of Gardiner; two sisters, Miss Louise Frances Kelley and Miss Katherine Kelley, both of Gardiner; also several cousins.

Kelley served as a purchasing agent for Gardiner, a councilman and alderman under former mayors, Charles Knight, Charles Gray and Will Atkins. He was a member of the Canabas Council Knights of Columbus. For the past 37 years Kelley was employed by Boston Coal Co. and severed as its manager for the past several years.

Norway - Mrs Ivanalla Swift, 98, died Tuesday morning at the Pike Hill Nusing Home where she had been a patient the las two years.

Mrs. Swift was born in Rockland, Nov. 10, 1869, the daughter of Hiram and Clara Ingraham Ginn.

She was married Nov. 27, 1901 to Porter B. Swift, who died Jan, 9, 1945.


64858. Harry E. Nixon

Harry E. Nixon, 69, a prominent criminal lawyer here since 1909, died Sunday in a local hospital.

He lived at 456 Woodford St. Mr. Nixon was recorder of the Portland Municipal Court from 1916 to 1919 and was a candidate at various times for the offices of mayor of Portland, judge of the Cumberland County Probate Court and county attorney. He was chairman of the Democratic State Committee several times. Mr. Nixon represented defendants in many Maine murder cases.

Born here May 3, 1882, son of Edward and Hattie M. Ingraham Nixon, he was educated in local schools and studies law under the late Judge Sewall Strout.

A member of the Maine and Massachusetts Bar Associations, he was active in Masonic Orders and belonged to the Portland Lodge of Masons, Greenleaf Royal Arch Chapter, Saint Albans Commandery, Knights Templar, and the Kora Shrine. He was also a member of the Portland Lodge of Elks.

Besides his widow, the former Inez George, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Hattie M. Higgins, Gorham; a daughter, Miss Violet E. Nixon of Portland; two sons, Milton A. of Portland and Harry E. Nixon Jr. of Billerica, Mass., and several grandchildren.

Albert L. Ingraham, 65 of North Whitefield died August 3 after a lingering illness. He was born in Whitefield, May 9, 1902 son of Albert F. and Mary Cookson Ingraham. He was a lifelong resident of Whitefield.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Gould Ingraham of Whitefield, one son, Leo A Gould Jr.; one half-brother, Edwin Taylor of Nashville, N. C. ; one sister, Mrs. Albert Ware of Randolph; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
