March 27, 1957GREENPORT, L. I., March 26 - Capt. Benjamin C. Thorn of 711 Main Street, former engineering officer in the United States Coast Guard, died last night in New York Hospital after a long illness. His age was 68.
Captain Thorn, who retired in 1945 after thirty-five years in the Coast Guard, was president for the last nine years of the Eastern Long Island Hospital here. During this period he had supervised the rebuilding of the hospital.
At his retirement, Captain Thorn was industrial manager of the Coast Guard yard in Curtis Bay, Md. Before that he was engineering officer in charge of the New England district, with headquarters in Boston. Earlier in his career he had taught for four years at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.
Captain Thorn, who received an engineering degree from Pratt Institute, began his career in defense service as a graduate of the former Coast Guard Academy at Fort Trumbull in New London in 1910.
Surviving are his widow, the former Phoebe Reeves; a son, Benjamin C., Jr. of Levittown: a daughter, Mrs. Janet E. Waesche, and a brother, C. Bruce Thorn of San Francisco.
Daniel E. Haskell was a marine engineer. He served in US Navy in the Batttle of Santiago, Cuba, July 1898.

Interment was in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
John M. Brockie was a clergyman at the time of his marriage to Mary Alice Haskell.

April 13, 2010Louella (Erdman) Brockie-Griffith, age 90, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Royal Oaks Care Center in Sun City, Arizona.
She was born on May 16, 1919 in Tomah, Wisconsin to Marie Lobe and Avold Erdman.
She was preceded in death by her sisters: Bernice M. Johnson and Avis Stubley and her brothers: Arthur and Lavene.
Louella had a distinguished career working for the NOEO, Navy Overseas Employment Office. She was a G13 in the Civil Service, her mission was hiring civilian employees for all Navy bases in the Pacific Area. She traveled extensively in the Far East as a Consultant.
She was united in marriage to Benjamin Brockie who was a Naval Officer in Charge of the Medical Office. He retired from the Navy, was president of Bank of America in San Francisco and then devoted his life to building retirement living facilities. He preceded Louella in death in 1983.
She married William T. Griffith and worked tirelessly for charities at the American Lutheran Church of Sun City. They traveled to the Holy Land and after 17 years of marriage, William Griffith passed away in 2002.
Louella will be lovingly remembered by her nieces: Sharie-Marie Jonsin, Ava Day, Diane (James) Walters, Marianne (Edward) Naber, Jeanne Tesch, and Nephew Gary (Marilyn) Peterson.
Everett Sears Haskell was a mechanic.
Allen Merrill Small was a mariner.
Chester E. Small was a sailor.
Delbert M. Small was a yachtsman at the time of his marriage to Alice Smith.

HOULTON - Mrs Mary A, (Mame) Conlogue, 84, widow of Joseph W. Conlogue, died Aug/ 3 at a local hospital after a brief illness.
She was born at Houlton Sept. 24, 1886, the daughter of John and Martha (Haggerty) McSheffrey.
A resident of Houlton all her life, she was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Columbus Guild and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surving are one son, Allston of Houlton; and two grandsons, Brian of Norfolk, Va., and Sean of Houlton.
