Kennebec Journal (Augusta, ME)
November 27, 2007

RANDOLPH -- Madeline A. Dow, 90, of Randolph died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at Harbor Hill in Belfast.

Born in Searsport on April 13, 1917, a twin daughter of George W. and Mary Ellen (Bradley) Nickerson, Madeline was raised in Searsport and graduated from Searsport High School.

Madeline married Norman Dow in Belfast, where they lived working in the local shoe factory.

They moved to Gardiner for a while. There, they continued working in the shoe factory until they retired. Meanwhile, they built and lived in a cozy home in Randolph. Madeline was devoted to her husband and her brother and sisters' families, and was well loved by them all. She visited often and was always ready to do for others. Madeline enjoyed several hobbies: knitting, sewing and crocheting. She was a "happy gardener" and her lovely flowers attested to her attention. She was happy to share them and plants with others. Wherever you saw Madeline, you saw Mickey or another black spaniel. She was always a dog and pet lover. She enjoyed television and the clubs and organizations to which she belonged. A long loyal member of the Methodist Church, she will be missed by many.

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Norman Cecil Dow, who died in 1981; her twin sister, Mildred Hersom and her husband, David; sisters Doris Nickerson, Helen Nickerson, Julia Pease and her husband, Omer, Mary Grindle and her husband, Donald, and Anna Bailey and her husband, Carlton; brother-in-law Clarence Tripp; brother and sister-in-law Myron and Cordelia Dow; and nieces and nephews Donald Pease, Gary Tripp, Mabel Buckley, Harold Bailey, George Bailey, Walter Bailey, Melvina Pease and LeRoy Garton.

Madeline is survived by one sister, Cecelia Tripp, of Frankfort; nieces and nephews Mary Ellen and Elton Wing, Mary and Lewis Seekins, Jean Garton, all of Searsport, Weldeena and Dean Hustus, Madeline and Kenneth Keniston, David Hersom II, Myron and Carol Hersom, Doris Tripp, Sally Tripp, Welden and Annette Tripp, Robert Tripp, Dawn and James Landry, all of Frankfort, Sharon and David Michaud, of Gorham, Mabel Buckley, of Bangor, Royce Bailey, of Pennsylvania, and Clara Latosek, of Florida; and many grandnieces and nephews.

63984. Arthur Dow

Arthur Dow at age 29 was a "jitney chauffeur" (1920 US Federal Census for Rockland, Knox, Maine).
