January 3, 2010Judith Clark Gracey Haskell died at home on Wednesday, December 30, 2009. She was the beloved wife of the late Benjamin Guion Haskell and the daughter of the late F.P. Gracey and Judith Bright Gracey. She was born in Augusta, GA, March 3, 1916, and was graduated from Tubman High School, the Junior College of Augusta, and Agnes Scott College. She was married on April 7, 1942, and moved to Woodlawn, the Haskell home in Aiken County, where she lived until her death.
She is survived by her three daughters: Laura Haskell Phinizy (Stewart) of Augusta; Judith Haskell McCarthy (Kevin) of Winter Park, FL; and Mary Bright Haskell Parker (John) of Aiken, SC. She is also survived by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Laura Phinizy Jones (Keith) of Washington, DC, and their two children; Louise Phinizy; Marion Phinizy Gash (Wesley) of St Simon's Island, GA, and their two children; Bradford Guion Parker; Charles Claiborne McCarthy and Anne Guion McCarthy as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was a member of St. Paul's Church where she was a founding member of St. Paul's Wedding Guild. She was a member of the Wayside Garden Club and The National Society of Colonial Dames of America, Augusta Town Committe
Grannie, as she was affectionately known, was an avid golfer in her youth and later years. She loved to garden and to share her vegetables with her friends and neighbors. Her Sunday night suppers for her children, grandchildren and their friends were a tradition that is fondly remembered in the community. Her home was always open to visiting friends and family.

May 16, 1989The Rev. Louis A. Haskell, 80, former rector of Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Richmond, died Saturday at Westminster- Canterbury House following a long illness. He was 80.
A native of South Carolina, Dr. Haskell was a graduate of Washington and Lee University. He received a bachelor of divinity degree from Virginia Theological Seminary in 1938 and a doctorate from VTS in 1961.
He served as an assistant at Christ Church in Raleigh, N.C., in 1938-40 and was rector of St. John's Episcopal Church in Suffolk in 1940-46. He was rector of churches in Florence, S.C., and Charleston, W.Va., before coming to the North Laurel Street church in Richmond in 1962.
Dr. Haskell retired as rector of Grace and Holy Trinity in 1977 and was elected rector emeritus. He was a former trustee of VTS and St. Catherine's School in Richmond.
He retired to Hendersonville, N.C., then moved to Westminster-Canterbury in Virginia Beach in 1983.He is survived by his wife, Sarah Bright Gracey Haskell; and four daughters, Judith Brewer of Short Hills, N.J., Katherine Subramanian of Philadelphia, Sally Hulcher of Richmond and Connie Haskell of Boston.

A native of Augusta, Ga., she was a graduate of Sweet Briar College and a homemaker. She was the widow of the Rev. Louis A. Haskell, former rector of Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. She was an active member of The Colonial Dames and The Boxwood Garden Club in Richmond.
She is survived by four daughters, Judith Brewer of Short Hills, N.J., Katherine Subramanian of Philadelphia, Pa., Sally Richardson of Richmond, and Connie Haskell of Boston, Mass.; a sister, Judith Haskell of Augusta, Ga.; a brother, Matthew Gracey of Delray Beach, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Anne Langdon Hulcher and Matthew Copeland Hulcher.

February 21, 2006Howard Wesley Richardson Jr., died February 16, 2006. Born August 9, 1926, in Petersburg, Virginia, he was the son of Vallie Woodlief Richardson and Howard Richardson.
Wes was a graduate of the College of William and Mary, where he majored in economics and played on the varsity tennis team. Multi-talented, he was one of the co-founders of Swift Creek Mill Playhouse, and was an accomplished, popular portrait artist.
In 1965, he went into business in North Carolina and lived in Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach. He sold his interest in Safeguard Business Systems and moved back to Virginia in 1983. He continued painting portraits in Irvington and Richmond. An avid sailor for years, Wes was a member of the Rappahannock River Yacht Club and the Country Club of Virginia. He was a former vestryman at St. Andrews on the Sound Episcopal Church in Wrightsville Beach, and a former board member of Westminster-Canterbury in Irvington.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Haskell Richardson; two stepchildren, Anne Hulcher Tollett and Matthew Copeland Hulcher; a niece and nephew, Patricia Curry and Thomas Kidd; four great-nephews, Stephen Curry, Bryan Curry, Edward Kidd and Thomas Kidd III; and a great-niece, Ellen Kidd.
Wes was a man of tremendous faith, talent, humor and courage.

December 8, 1992Longboat Key, Fla. - Alexander Cheves Haskell, 90, formerly of Farmington, N.H., died Nov. 30, 1992, in Brittany Convalescent Home, Natick, Mass., after a short illness.
Mr. Haskell was born in Columbia, S.C., the oldest of nine children, and attended Baylor Military School, Tennessee, and Dartmouth College.
He was trained by the W. T. Grant Co. For 10 years, he owned and operated Haskell's 5c and 10c Store in Farmington, and in 1947, became a merchandise consultant. In addition he was director of the Farmington National Bank and a member of the Farmington School Board. He was a member of the Farmington Congregational Church and the Kiwanis Club. Also, Mr. Haskell was a patron of the Eastern Star.
His first wife, Adelaide Haskell, predeceased him.
The family includes his wife, Leona Foster Haskell; a daughter, Sarah Haskell Meyer of Sherborn Mass.; two stepdaughters, Cynthia Brezinski of Manchester, Conn., and Patricia Kelley of Pembroke, N.H.; of Pembroke, N.H.; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a brother Charles; and a sister, Frances.

November 25, 1986A. Cheves Haskell, Jr., of Harvard, a former corporate director of the IBM Corp. at Armonk, N. Y., died Tuesday in his home of a liver ailment.
Born in Farmington, N.H., he graduated from Dartmouth College in 1952. He began working at the International Business Machines Corp. in 1953, where he became corporate director of policy and development and a vice president of marketing and service. He also worked in the corporation's European, Middle East and East Africa offices and was an administrative assistant to the chief operating officer.
After leaving IBM in1980, he was vice president of Synthetic Fuels Corp. until 1981. He was also a consultant to the Wang and Visicorp computer companies before retiring in 1983 because of illness.
He leaves his wife, Elizabeth Raymond; two sons, Grant of New York City and David of Boston; two daughters, Alexa Hoffman of Guilford, Conn., and Leigh Haskell of Bowdoinham, Maine; a stepson, Edward Mathias of Baltimore; a sister, Sally Meyer of Shelburne; his father, Alexander Cheves Haskell of Melvin Village, N.H.; and four grandchildren.

The Honorable Andrew Gill Meyer, an associate justice of the Superior Court of Massachusetts from 1979-1993, died of cancer on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, in his Sherborn home. He was 85. He always lived according to his motto: ABC: Always Be Kind.
Mr. Meyer was born in Newton and grew up in Waltham. He graduated from Harvard College, and later earned a master’s degree at Columbia University and a law degree at Harvard. He served during WWII in the Army, first in the 105th Infantry Division, then in the 8th Air Force in England, from where he flew 35 missions over Germany as a nose and tail gunner in a Liberator B-24 bomber. He served again in the Navy during the Korean War. He attended Central Instructor School and taught aerial gunnery in Florida.
After Harvard Law School, Mr. Meyer specialized in civil litigation and was a partner at Morrison, Mahoney & Miller and Meyer, Maggioni & Leary. In 1971, Mr. Meyer went into solo practice and was joined by Paul Needham, who said, we have been close friends since before his appointment to the bench. My wife and I were honored when he agreed to be godfather to our daughter. Andy Meyer was an extraordinarily compassionate, caring person and the essence of integrity. He was a superb lawyer, judge and mediator and always exemplified the highest ideals of the profession.
Last, former Governor Dukakis said of Meyer, Andy has intelligence, integrity, and compassion, a marvel of a guy. He is one of the best that I appointed. In August 1979, Governor Edward King appointed Mr. Meyer to the Superior Court. There he served until his mandatory retirement at age 70 in 1993. His last year on the bench was spent as the regional administrative justice for Norfolk County.
Upon his retirement, the Patriot Ledger reported that Meyer took his greatest professional pride in the time he has spent in jail: I’ve probably done more jail time than anyone working in the system, he said, grinning. I simply feel that a judge should know about the food, staff training, incentive and other programs throughout the system. As the highest-ranking judge in Norfolk County, he toured all the correction facilities and became familiar with the lives he was imposing on those he sentenced. His compassion towards inmates and his outstanding legal mind won him the Bar Association of Norfolk County Person of the Year award in May 1993.
After retiring from the bench, Mr. Meyer worked as an arbitrator and mediator for JAMS/ENDISPUTE. He was frequently called upon by Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin to arbitrate securities matters. He successfully facilitated the resolution of many complex disputes in cases involving personal injury, business disputes and professional malpractice.
In his later years, Mr. Meyer traveled the world with his wife, Sally. They also spent time in Sanibel Island each winter, on Lake Winnipesaukee in the summer, and proudly watched their brood of grandchildren grow to the current 10.
Mr. Meyer will be remembered for his various charitable activities, including the Camp Fire Girls, Cub Scouts, Sherborn Library, the Experiment in International Living, Walnut Hill School, Pilgrim Church and the Norfolk Prison Fellowship. Throughout his life he made people from different backgrounds a part of his family, including summer visitors from Roxbury; students from Greece and Uganda; prisoners on furlough for the day; and immigrants and refugees from the Congo, Russia, Iraq and Nigeria, to name a few.
He is survived by his bride, Sarah Haskell Meyer, and their five children: Ellen Meyer Shorb of Lincoln (married to Paul Shorb), Julie Parkman Meyer of Seattle, Wash., Joan Meyer Abbot of Newton (married to Ames Abbot), Andrew Lincoln Meyer of Falmouth, Maine (married to Gail Hayes Meyer), and Thomas Alton Meyer of Brookline (married to Jennifer Kloehn Meyer). He is survived by his brother, Guy Wheeler Meyer of Inverness, Calif.
Mr. Meyer also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews and adopted family friends.
Mr. Meyers body has been donated to Harvard Medical School and he will eventually rest in Pine Hill Cemetery in Sherborn.

December 15, 1992Longboat Key, Fla. - Leona (Priest) Haskell, 84, of Longboat Key and Melvin Village, N.H., died Dec. 12, 1992, at her daughter's home in Pembroke, N. H., following a short illness.
Born in Lee, N.H., she was the daughter of William and Grace (Jenkins) Priest. She was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, class of 1930.
In addition, Mrs. Haskell was a member of Book and Scroll, an honorary English society, Erato, and the honorary education society Kappa Delta Pi. She was an educator until her retirement and taught school in Newmarket, Milton and Farmington, N.H., where she was principal of the elementary school, She spent two years teaching in Germany as a civilian employee of the U.S. Army.
Mrs. Haskell was a former member of the Newmarket Community Church, where she served as choir director and soloist; former member of the Farmington Congregational Church; and was a member of the Longboat Key Island Chapel, Florida. She was a matron of the Orient Chapter, OES 22.
Her first husband, Walter J. Foster, died in 1957. She was married to Alexander C. Haskell, who died November 30, 1992.
The family includes two daughters, Cynthia Foster Brezinski of Manchester, Conn., and Patricia Foster Kelley of Pembroke; a stepdaughter, Sarah Haskell Meyer of Sherborn Mass.; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

Thomas Langdon Haskell was born in Arlington, VA, to Martha and Anthony Porter Haskell.
After graduating from Washington and Lee High School and Princeton University, he served in the Navy, including working as XO on a minesweeper in Japan and as a naval advisor at the beginning of the war in Vietnam. While completing his PhD in history at Stanford University, he met his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Ann Wyatt. Tom was a professor of history at Rice University for 39 years. He was deeply committed to the university's academic mission and won teaching awards for his stirring lectures and dedication to his students. His scholarship ranged widely over U.S. history, making a mark on the history of the anti-slavery movement, the culture of the market, the history of the social sciences, the emergence of the professions, and the nature of objectivity. Tom prided himself on speaking truth, even when that truth was politically contentious or academically unfashionable. As passionate as he was about scholarship, Tom was happiest when riding his bike and climbing mountains in Crested Butte, CO, with his family.
Tom died July 12, 2017, at the age of 78, from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. He follows his sister, Anne Plunkert, in death.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy, his son Alexander Haskell, daughter-in-law Patricia Reyes, daughter Susan Khan and son-in-law Rehan Khan. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Isabela, Efren, Gabriel, Zinnia, Michelle, and Eliza, all of whom knew him as their "Baba."

Tina graduated from Airport High School, attended St. Mary's College in North Carolina, and graduated from The University of South Carolina. She was incredibly creative, and enjoyed gardening and reading.
Tina is survived by her daughter, Simone Duff; a son, Alexander Duff; sister, Mary West; brother, Peter Langdon Haskell niece, Martine Jeffcoat; cousin, Nat Haskell and step-mother, Mary Wimberly Clark.
In addition to her parents, Tina was preceded in death by a brother, Roger McRee Clark.

Mr. Clark died Thursday, June 29, 2006, unexpectedly. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late McCree Clark, Jr. and Mary Haskell Clark. He started working with the state in 1989. Most recently, he was a telecommunications specialist for PBX Switches which involves about 50,000 telephones. He was considered one of the most experienced and knowledgeable in his field. His commitment to excellence and customer support has been observed by all who have had the opportunity to work with him.
Mr. Clark was an avid hunter. He was a dedicated husband, dad and grandpa.

April 7, 1990DAVIS, Margaret Haskell, age 68, died April 5, 1990. She was born July 13, 1921 Margaret Porter Haskell, in Columbia, SC, one of 9 children. Her father was Porter Haskell, a dairy farmer. Her mother Margaret Fulton, is still living in Columbia.
Margaret was graduated from the University of South Carolina at the age of 19 with honors in journalism. She was a campus queen, a debutante, and participated in drama. She also completed two years of law school.
She married William E. Davis on March 17, 1943. She was his lovely, devoted wife for 47 years. Together they raised six children and a successful business, William E. Davis & Sons. She was an essential factor in the success of the business and was still active until recently. Margaret loved other people, Oklahoma and America. Her southern charm and thoughtfulness to others will always be remembered by her friends. She was a hard worker, with a strong sense of individual and community responsibility. She never promoted herself, but quietly helped many people and civic organizations. She instilled that same sense of responsibility in her children.
She is survived by her husband, Bill, and 6 children and spouses, Porter (Terri), Richard (Karen), Charles (Libbi), Elizabeth, Anne and Marnie Kennedy ( John) all of Okla. City. Also her special daughter, Chung Ja Kim Lai and her children Ina and Jimmy; her mother, two brothers, Alex and Charles; her sister, Frankie Larson, and eight grandchildren, Stephani Lewis, Nika, Caroline, Kristen, Alison and Alex Davis, Buck and Ben Kennedy.

December 14, 2023Porter Haskell Davis "Mr. Grassroots" passed away November 14, 2023 at his home in Oklahoma City.
Porter was born on June 17, 1947 in Oklahoma City. Porter's parents were William "Bill" E. Davis and Margret Haskell.
He was a loving husband, father, friend and faithful servant of the Lord. He was married to his loving wife Terri for 47 years and they have three daughters Dominique, Caroline and dearly departed Stephani, as well as four grandchildren, Daxton, Levi, Mia and Riley.
Porter had five siblings and is survived by three. Charles and his wife Libbi, Elizabeth and Marnie. His dearly departed sister Anne, 2014 and his beloved brother Richard 2018.
William Raoul was Chairman of the Cavalier Corp., Chattanooga, Tenn. He also produced a beautiful version of the New Testament that he hand printed in both Latin and English.
