March 26, 1998Florence Owen Toothaker, 80, of Ash Cove Road died Wednesday at Freeport Nursing Home.
She was born in Brunswick, daughter of Howard W. and Susie E. Moody, attended Brunswick schools and was a 1935 graduate of Brunswick High School.
On Sept. 26, 1936, she married Stephen J. Toothaker. He died Sept. 29, 1983.
Mrs. Toothaker was a homemaker and for 11 years she was co-owner of Owens Taxi Service. Mrs. Toothaker also worked in Longfellow and Coffin schools cafeterias and later worked at Maine Shoe, Brunswick, and Eastland Shoe Co., Freeport, until her retirement.
Neighborhood children knew her for the delicious cookies she made for them. She also enjoyed knitting, making rugs and baking.
A son, John C. Toothaker, died in 1990.
Surviving are a daughter, Joyce Kirkpatrick of South Harpswell; two sons, Stephen H. of West Bath and Dennis R. of South Harpswell; a brother, Robert A. Owen of Brunswick; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Harpswell� Barbara Ellen Merriman, 91, of 10 Bufflehead Lane, died Friday, September 14, 2007, at Mid Coast Hospital, Brunswick.
She was born in Everett, MA, May 30, 1916, the daughter of Charles and Lillian Phillips Chase and graduated from Everett High School, Class of 1935.
She married Ralph Noble Merriman in Everett in 1940. Mr. Merriman died in 1985.
They lived in Boston during their marriage, until returning to Maine in 1971.
Mrs. Merriman worked in the office of HK Porter during WWII. She taught kindergarten at Chelmsford Congregation Church. Following their move to Harpswell, she became a member of the Elijah Kellogg Church and was a volunteer with the Harpswell Neck Fire Department.
She is survived by a son, Ralph C. Merriman and his wife Beverly of Harpswell; daughter, Paula Olsen and her husband, Alex of Littleton, MA; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
