May 30, 2011OLD TOWN - Gloria C. Haskell, 77, passed away early Saturday morning, May 28, 2011, at a Bangor hospital, after a courageous four-year struggle with cancer. Her loving and devoted family was at her side.
She was a very dedicated wife to Stuart P. Haskell Jr. and they would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in July. Gloria was a devoted mother and spent much of her life raising her four children of which she was extremely proud. Gloria was a superb craftsperson, creating many objects of beauty through oil painting, sketching, needlepoint, cross-stitch, calligraphy, knitting, crocheting and sewing. Her family proudly displays her works of art in their homes, and it gave Gloria such pleasure to create such beautiful items that she shared with her family and friends. Gloria loved to travel and visited many locations with her husband. She enjoyed summers at their lake house in Lee. Gloria was a friendly and feisty lady. Those that met her never forgot her, as she left warm and loving impressions. Gloria was an avid lover of animals and will be sorely missed by Shad, Chloe and Drew. She was a great fan of University of Maine athletics, one that she shared with her husband and family.
In addition to her husband, Stu, she is survived by four children, Christopher and his significant other, Colette, of Saco, Caren Ford and her husband, Chris, of Old Town, Catherine of Bangor and Carol Wertz and her husband, Lloyd, of Londonderry, N.H.; grandchildren, Abigail Ford of Bangor, David Haskell of Vassalboro, Tiffany Pelletier of Corinth, Hunter and Logan Wertz of Londonderry, N.H., Anna Pettengill of Limington, Christopher Haskell of Naples and Matthew Haskell of Bar Harbor; great-grandchildren, Jade Pettengill, Hailey and Lucas Haskell, Olivia Pelletier, Connor Ireland, Christina, Kaelab and Jacob Haskell; many cousins; and a special stepsister and her son, Virginia and Dwight Johnson of South Windsor, Conn.
A special thank you to her daughter, Caren, who unselfishly dedicated her life to caring for her mom. The family acknowledges the following for the wonderful care they provided to Gloria: Dr. Michael Bruehl, the doctors and nurses of CancerCare of Maine and the doctors and nurses of St. Joseph Hospital.

Christopher James Haskell, 66, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, Maine. He was born in Bangor, Maine on April 26, 1955, a son of Stuart and Gloria (Coffin) Haskell.
Chris graduated from Bangor High School in 1973 and enlisted in the Air Force that same year as a security specialist where he trained police dogs at the Pease Air Force Base until discharged in January of 1975. He also attended the University of Maine at Machias in 1975
through 1977 where he was a member of the Kappa Delta Phi Fraternity.Chris was self-employed as a drain clearing service specialist for many years in Saco, Maine. He was also employed at the Hannaford Bros. in Scarborough both the Corporate Office and the Seafood Department.
Christopher was a prolific reader of nonfiction history and sports literature and had an extensive library. He was an avid Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots fan and of University of Maine hockey and football. He also enjoyed listening to all types of music.
Chris enjoyed bird watching and feeding birds at home and at the Haskell family camp at Silver Lake in Lee, Maine. He enjoyed swimming, fishing, hunting, and boating.
Chris was a poet and one of his collections was selected to be published in the Portland Press Herald of Portland. Maine which featured Chris' love of Maine and nature.
Christopher was predeceased by his mother, Gloria Haskell.
He is survived by his father, Stuart Haskell of Stillwater, Maine, his partner of 42 years Colette Lapierre of Lincoln, Maine, his son Christopher Haskell II and daughter Anna McCrea, both of Hollis, Maine and son Mathew Haskell of Blue Hill, Maine, two grandsons Kaelab and Jacob Haskell, and a granddaughter Jade Pettengill and great granddaughter Harmony Kenney of Lincoln, Maine, three sisters; Catherine Haskell of Mount Dora, Florida, Caren Ford and her husband Chris of Stillwater, Maine and Carol Wertz and her husband Lloyd of Londonderry, NH.

March 14, 2012BREWER - Frederick E. Olsen Sr., 84, husband of Virginia (Crawford) Olsen, passed away Monday, March 12, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 9, 1928, in Bangor, the son of Charles and Georgia (Haskell) Olsen.
Fred graduated from Bangor High School in 1945, and served in the Army during World War II, the Air Force, the Air National Guard and the Naval Reserve. He worked for the American Red Cross and Husson College. He was a member and past commander of Isaac E. Clewley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4917, Brewer, and was also past district commander and served as a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop No. 15 for 20 years.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 62 years of Brewer, are two sons, Michael of Bangor and Jeffrey and his wife, Lesa, of Stratham, N.H.; nine grandchildren, Dodi Olsen of Monroe, Michael Olsen of Pearisburg, Va., Frederick Olsen III and Jeffrey Olsen of Alexander, Daniel Olsen and Tonya Olsen of Corpus Christi, Texas, Max Olsen of Bakersfield, Calif., Seth Olsen and Sebastian Olsen of Stratham, N.H.; a stepgranddaughter, Towanna Howard of Radford, Va.; two sisters, Mary Olund and her husband, Trig, of Sioux City, Iowa, and Marion Descharme of Sacramento, Calif.; two brothers, Merritt Olsen and his wife, Joanne, of Perry Hall, Md., and Alden Olsen of Lutz, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Olsen of Lewiston; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Frederick Olsen Jr.; a brother, Charlie Olsen; and a sister, Norma Lombrix; and his dog, Bear.

February 14, 2020Brewer - Virginia 'Ginny" Olsen passed away peacefully February 3, 2020, with her sons by her side after a sudden illness. She was born November 13, 1927, in Millinocket the daughter of Reginald and Ina (Harriman) Crawford.
A woman ahead of her time, she balanced a long career with busy family life and volunteering. Virginia enjoyed 62 years of marriage with Frederick Olsen and raised three sons. She is remembered as a devoted and caring daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend.
She is survived by sons: Michael Olsen and Sue Monahan of Holden, Jeff and Lesa Olsen of Rye NH, ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters Pat and Jim Harvey of Old Town, Diane and Paul Noddin of East Millinocket, sister-in-laws Shirley Fischer of Rochester NY, Mary Olund of Sioux City IA, JoAnn Olsen of Perry Hall MD and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Frederick Olsen, Jr., brother, Reginald Crawford Jr; and sisters, Ida Rodgers and Joan Monahan.

June 11, 2002Brewer and Waukesha, Wis. - Frederick E. Owen, Jr., 50 died unexpectedly, May 23, 2002, at his residence in Waukesha, Wis. He was born Oct. 21, 1951, in Bangor, the son of Frederick E. and VIrginia (Crawford) Olsen.
Frederick was a graduate of Brewer High School, where he was a member of the undefeated 1970 Football State Champions and rated 5th in the Nation and was a memner of the All-Stare Team that year. He was also an Eagle Scout with Troop 15, Boy Scouts of America with 3 Palms and the God and Country Award. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War as a HT2C aboard the USS Farragut DLG6.
Surviving, in addition to his parents of Brewer, are three sons and a daughhter, Frederick III of Portland, Jeffrey of Bangor, Daniel and Tonya, both of Rockport, Texas; a very special friend, Darlene Harrison of Waukesha, Wis.; tho brothers, Michael of Brewer and Jeffrey and his wife, Lesa Borniski of Stratham, N.H.; one niece and four nephews, several aunts and uncles.

April 20, 2006Nelson J. Haskell, 94, of Cedar Mountain passed away Friday, April 14, 2006, at his residence.
He was a native of South Paris, Maine, the son of the late Edwin G. and Florence Haskell. He was a 1935 graduate of Northeastern University in Boston. Later he became a product engineer for Sperry Rand for 20 plus years. He was involved in the design and documentation of many space vehicles. He started the Connestee Falls Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Wright-Haskell; a son, Alan Haskell of Homewood, Ill.; a daughter, Jane Smith of Meredith, N.H.; a stepson, Adam Rector of Hendersonville; a stepdaughter, Caroline Wright of the home; several grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

November 5, 1979MARBLEHEAD - Roger H. Cook, 42, of 37 Bubier Road, died unexpectedly Saturday in Salem Hospital. He was the husband of Francine (Navin) Cook.
Born in Evanston, Ill., son of Rosamond (Haskell) Cook and the late Frank Cook, he had been a resident of Marblehead for 12 years.
Mr. Cook was manager of production planning for Microwave Associates of Burlington. He was a graduate of Needham High School and attended Tufts University.
He was a member of the Marblehead Lodge of Elks and the Gerry 5 VFA of Marblehead. He was active in sailing and sailed in the Marblehead to Halifax races.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two brothers, Robert R. Cook of New York and Frank Cook of Norwood.

She was born in Manchester, was educated in the Manchester school system and was graduated in 1944 from the University of New Hampshire. Miss Haskell has resided in this community for many years. She had formerly been employed as a library assistant at the Nashua Public Library. Miss Haskell was a member of the Unitarian-Universalist Church in Nashua.
The family includes an aunt and cousins.

July 16, 2009Haskell Smith Rhett, Jr, age 83, of Wilmington, NC died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Cornelia Nixon Davis Health Care Center after an extended illness. He was born January 12, 1926 in Wilmington and was preceded in death by his parents Haskell Smith Rhett and Jane MacMillan Rhett.
"Hack" was a member of the class of 1943 at New Hanover High School. After graduation at age seventeen he joined the US Navy. He trained as an Aviation Ordinanceman in the bomb disposal unit and served in the Pacific theater during World War II, earning a battle star at Okinawa. After the war, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a member of the SAE fraternity. After college, he worked as a trust officer with Peoples Savings Bank and Trust (now Wachovia) in Wilmington and Winston-Salem. He was a life member of the Carolina Yacht Club and a member of L'Arioso.
He was an avid boatsman and sailor, and was a mechanical expert. He worked as a marina manager, boat builder, and in later years as a marine surveyor and joinerman. He was proud to have been the "last captain and the last person to operate the tugboat John Taxis " in 1979 just before she was put on display at Chandler's Wharf. Haskell was an accomplished woodworker and taught Vocational Education at Roland Grise and at Williston, where he met his wife of 26 years, Sue Bonner Hall.
Haskell is survived by his wife Sue, his four children, Haskell Smith Rhett III and wife Connie of Wilmington, Dorothy Rhett Gore of Wilmington, Mary Rhett Gottschalg and husband John of Alpharetta, GA, Katharine Rhett Gallotta and husband Steve of Suffolk, VA, and seven grandchildren, Hannah Rhett, Walter Rhett, Owen Gore, Will Gottschalg, Charlotte Gottschalg, Katharine Gallotta, and Haskell Gallotta. Also surviving are two stepchildren, Mitchell Henry Hall and wife Melinda of Wilmington, Michael Hundley Hall and wife Mim of Wilmington, and their children Ethan Hall, Elissa Hall, and Kaya Hall. He is also survived by his sister Katharine Rhett Fox and husband James C. fox of Wilmington and their family.
