Memorial Service for Catherine Loraine "Lori" Read will be held Saturday, April 24, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Lacey Presbyterian Church, 3045 Carpenter Road S.E., Lacey (Olympia), Washington.

A former Highline public school teacher and guidance counselor, Lori was a PEO and with her husband, Walter, involved with Marriage Encounter, United Cerebral Palsy, various community organizations and their church homes, Lake Burien and Lacey Presbyterian.

Lori was born in Canyon City, Oregon on September 12, 1911 and passed away January 29, 2004 at her daughter's (Pamela von Gohren) home in Minnetonka, MN. She is also survived by a son, David, of Issaquah.

WEITMAN, Harold Newton "Hal", Jr. Made his last long haul trip, to Heaven, on Friday, February 20, 2015 at Hospice House of Spokane.

Hal was born in Spokane, WA on March 12, 1936, the oldest child of Harold Newton and Margaret Theodora (Kenny) Weitman.

He grew up in Colfax, WA where he attended both Martha Washington and Hamilton grade schools and graduated from Colfax High School in 1954. He attended Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho for two years. In 1958, he volunteered for the draft in the United States Army where he spent two years in Germany.

He married Ethelwyn Joy Babb in 1960, in Palouse, WA. Two sons were born to that union.

He spent the next 41 years as a truck driver. He founded his own trucking company in 1991, and transported manufactured goods into and out of all of the lower 48 states. He retired in 2001.

He is survived by his wife Joy, sons Dennis (Michelle) and Dan (Heather), granddaughters, Rebekka and Jessicca Weitman, and Kelsey (Jordan) Allen, all of Spokane. He is also survived by sister, Louise Ackley and niece Barbara Ackley of Boise, ID and nephew Douglas Ackley, currently teaching in Abu Dhabi (UAE).

He was a lifetime member of Owner Operator Independent Driver's Association (OOIDA) and a longtime member of Opportunity Presbyterian Church where he had been an elder and a deacon.

Brighton - Betty passed away peacefully May 9, 2019 at the age of 98 after a long, joy-filled and interesting life.

She leaves four children, James (Colleen), John in Colorado, Elsa Steo (Nicholas) and special son Luis (Fanny) in Lima, Peru; grandchildren, Monica Friesner (Leo Vogt), Melinda (Gerry) Ward, Meredith Gregory and Ryan Sauer; 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson, many nieces and nephew, countless friends and special friend Nancy Wright.

Wimington - Formerly of Yorklyn, DE on Thursday, December 7, 2017, age 92 while a resident at Shipley Manor.

Predeceased by his wife, Jean. He leaves his children, Joanne E. Cripps, Linda A.E. Cripps, Diane E. Cripps, Christopher H. Cripps; granddaughter, Elisabeth M. Cripps.

Harry was born in Webster, NY on May 14, 1925. He attended Webster High School and Georgia Tech for Naval Science. He received his BS in Chemistry from the U of R and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Illinois. A US Navy veteran, Harry was a longtime employee of Central Research & Development for DuPont Co., Wilmington, DE and was a member of the American Chemical Society for over 50 years. Harry will be remembered as a devoted family man, baseball aficionado, music lover and an avid gardener.

Services for Mrs. Lillian Congdon, Lear, 88, of 862 Ackerman Ave., who died Friday at her home, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Chase Funeral Home, 1520 South Ave. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Corning.

A 1906 graduate of the Syracuse University School of Design, Mrs. Lear was a member of Chi Omega sorority, a charter member of its Mother's Club, and a member of the Current Events Club, and the Wednesday Club.

She was the widow of SU Prof. Fred R. Lear.

Mrs. Lear was a life member of the Silverman Hospital Auxiliary, a member of First United Methodist Church and a charter member of its Browning Circle.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Roma Loren of Tucson, Ariz., Mrs. Cordelia Buell of Flushing, Mich., and Mrs. Ruth Mowry; a sister, Mrs. Eunice Hain of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother, Albert Congdon of Waynesboro, Va.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ruth Lear Mowry, a former resident of Syracuse , NY, died March 14, 2004, at age 95, in Durham, NC.

She was the daughter of the late Professor Fred Lear and wife Lillian Congdon Lear, also of Syracuse.

She was married to James Leonard Mowry of Canastota for over 59 years. They resided in Syracuse until they moved to Durham, NC, in 1986. Mrs. Mowry was a graduate of Nottingham High School and Syracuse University, where she studied art. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Syracuse for over 75 years, a member of Chi Omega Sorority at SU, the DAR, Honorary Arts Society, Artist Workshop of New Smyrna Beach, FL, National Pen Women of America, Durham Arts Guild and Epworth United Methodist Church in Durham.

Surviving are: her son Dr. Fred Lear Mowry of Durham, NC; a sister Roma Loren of Tucson, AZ; and a granddaughter.

Former Syracuse resident J. Leonard Mowry, 86, died Tuesday in Durham, N.C.

A native of Canastota, Mr. Mowry resided most of his life in Syracuse . He also lived several years in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., before moving to Durham. He retired from Carrier Corp. Mr. Mowry was a graduate of Syracuse University. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Syracuse and secretary for many years of Boy Scout Troop 1 in Syracuse.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth L.; a son, Dr. Fred L. of Durham; and a grandchild.

They resided in Syracuse, NY, Buffalo, NY, Alamogordo, NM, then moving to Tucson, AZ in 1961.

Roma was preceded in death by daughter, Nancy Jacobs; her husband, Bernard Loren and her sisters, Ruth and Cordelia.

Roma is survived by son, Robert; daughter, Shirley (Philip); grandchildren, Lee Ann (Joel), Amber (Chris), Karly and Tanner (Pamela); great-grandchildren, Alex, Emily, Kelly and Jacob and by her lifelong best friend, Joanna Hermann.

BUELL, Eldon W. - Of Flushing, age 84, died Thursday, June 10, 1999 at McLaren Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Buell was born in Flushing, Michigan on December 24, 1914, the son of John H. and Mary C. (Mead) Buell.

He married Cordelia L. Lear in San Diego, California, June 1, 1943. She preceded him in death May 28, 1998.

Mr. Buell was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the India, Burma Theatre. He retired from the Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Buell was a teacher at Maple School and Kearsley Schools and then was Principal, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent of Swartz Creek Community Schools, retiring in 1971, serving a total of 36 years. Mr. Buell was a member of Flushing United Methodist Church, Lodge #223 F&AM, VFW Post #5666, Michigan Retired Teachers Association, National Retired Teachers Association, and Reserve Officers Association. He was a former member and officer of Michigan Education Association and Genesee County Principals Association.

Surviving are: daughter, Rebecca D. Reiff of Cincinnati, Ohio; son John H. and wife Connie Buell of Salt Lake City, Utah; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Florence Rowe of Edgewater, Florida and Flushing; many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her son, Robert E. MacPherson; and her daughter, Vicki M. Nichols; three grandchildren, Adam, Lisa, and Eric.

Mrs. MacPherson was a member of Sandston Baptist Church for over 40 years.

She was born Feb. 6, 1930, in Fort Wayne, to Roy Powers and Bertha (Lear) MacPherson.

On April 22, 1951, she married Billy Joe Johnson, who preceded her in 1999.

She is survived by two daughters, Kellie (Glenn) Laughlin of New Paris and Janice Monnier of Warsaw; son Bruce (Terrie) Johnson of Churubusco; six grandchildren; 13 great-grand-children; one stepgrandchild; and five great-stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Roy Johnson and granddaughter Nicole Johnson.
