CONCORD � Janet Marie (Haskell) Williams, died Saturday, July 26, 2008. She was the wife of Manning A. Williams Jr. and the late Charles Bishop Park who died Dec. 25, 1981. Both men were veterans of World War II.

She was born in Cambridge on Aug. 14, 1923, the daughter of Mary Morton Washburn Haskell and Eli Perry Haskell. She received a bachelor of art degree from Boston University and a master’s in art from Wellesley College.

Mrs. Williams lived in Concord at various times since 1983. She worked as a secretary in the Concord Public Schools for over 17 years. She was a member of the Skating Club of Boston for 25 years, and had a lifelong hobby of genealogy.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Laurel Park Ackles of Maynard, and Priscilla Park Swain of Harvard; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Stanley W. Haskell of Watertown; and three stepchildren, Christopher N. Williams of Austin, Texas, Elizabeth Williams of Putney, Vt., and Sarah Williams of Burlington, Vt.

RANDOLPH - William Frank Rhoades, 89, died Aug. 30, 2005, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. He was born Dec. 2, 1915, in Barnard, the son of William W. and Susan (Pember) Rhoades.

He was married to Jean A. Stoodley in Rutland, on July 8, 1949.

Mr. Rhoades had been a logger and farmer, and worked for 18 years for the state of Vermont Highway Department, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Rochester Federated Church. He enjoyed gardening, cows, chickens, horses, maple sugaring and feeding the birds.

Survivors include his wife, Jean A. Rhoades of Rochester; a son, Dennis Rhoades of Rochester; a daughter, Susan Curtis of Bethel; two sisters, Margaret Winot of Tupper Lake, N.Y., and Beulah Klimasofski of Pasadena, Calif.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Esther Hunt.


Jean Alma Stoodley

ROCHESTER - Jean A. Rhoades, 89, died May 2, 2011, at her home. She was born April 20, 1922, in Rutland, Vt., the daughter of Eugene and Nellie (Holden) Stoodley.

She married William F. Rhoades July 8, 1949, in Rutland. He died in 2005.

Mrs. Rhoades worked at the Woolworth's lunch counter in Rutland, then in the Rutland Hospital dietary department. She provided childcare in her home for many years. She was a member of Rochester Federated Church where she once taught Sunday school.She enjoyed reading, cooking, canning and traveling.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Rhoades of Rochester; a daughter, Susan Curtis of Bethel; a sister, Audrey Garrow of East Wallingford; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Rhoades was predeceased by two brothers, Urban and Raymond Stoodley, and four sisters, Edith Lewis, Rosella Brown, Grace Blanchard and Ida Holden Varnum.

ORANGE CITY -- Dawn T. Schofield, 82, of North Oak Avenue, who retired as a a teletype operator for Sears, Roebuck & Co., after 35 years of service, died Friday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.

Mrs. Schofield was born in Springfield, Vt., and moved here in 1952 from Nashua, N.H. She attended Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and was a member of DeLand Moose Lodge, Women of the Moose College of Regents and Orange City Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary No. 92, where she served as a past commander.

Survivors include a son, John, Orange City; a brother, John Lyon, Harrisonburg, Va.; a sister, Wilma Coogan, New Paltz, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.


Francis Eugene Hoisington

QUECHEE - Francis E. Hoisington, 83, died Nov. 25, 2002, at his home. He was born March 27, 1919, in Springfield, the son of Frank and Lillian (Avery) Hoisington.
He graduated from Springfield High School in 1937.

He worked at A&P Tea Company in Springfield for three years, farmed for a brief time in Rochester, and then returned to Springfield where he worked at Bryant Grinder. He later owned and operated the Union Street Grocery for a time before going to work at Great Eastern. In 1972 he moved to White River Junction, where he worked for the State of Vermont Department of Social Welfare, retiring in 1984.

Mr. Hoisington was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II in the European Theatre Alpenine Campaign. He was a member of the Quechee Congregational Church.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Iola (Rawson) Hoisington of Quechee; a daughter, Dawn Cullen of Holbrook, Mass.; a stepson, Lawrence Fuller of Okinawa, Japan; two stepdaughters, Margaret Neily of Windsor and Chynthia Saade of Hesparia, Calif.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Calvin Hoisington of Suncook, N.H.; two sisters, Muriel Berg and Rachael Jensen, both of Perkinsville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Francis Hoisington Jr., in 1978.

WALPOLE, N.H. -- Claire R. Whitcomb, 86, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, in her Walpole home. She was born in Bellows Falls, Vt., the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Egbert Robinson, and lived the greater part of her life there.

In 1939, she married Frank W. Whitcomb, who founded his own highway construction and materials corporation in 1932. His professional activities in the Associated General Contractors of America and the National Asphalt Pavement Association gave them the opportunity to travel frequently in the United States and abroad.

Following Mr. Whitcomb's early death in 1977, she remained active in the Frank W. Whitcomb Construction Corporation as a corporate officer and co-owner with her son, Frank L. "Chip" Whitcomb. Throughout the years, she visited her office there frequently and enjoyed visiting job sites even through the 2004 construction season.

Mrs. Whitcomb also continued her annual travel to her second home in Sarasota, Fla., until 2002, and to Washington, D.C., and Stockbridge, Mass., where she enjoyed attending music and cultural events with her daughter.

She maintained a strong interest in promoting educational advancement for high school students in Vermont. She managed scholarships created in the name of her husband, her parents, and herself and enjoyed participating in the annual recognition of these students.
Mrs. Whitcomb was preceded in death by her husband, and her two brothers, John "Jack" and William "Bill" Robinson.

She is survived by a daughter, Carol Andrea of Chevy Chase, Md.; a son, Frank L. "Chip" of Sunapee; two grandchildren, Allison and Tyler; a sister-in-law, Beverly Robinson of Maine; a nephew, Scott; and two nieces, Jane and Patti.

Joseph Mixsell

Joe was born in Tacoma, Washington on Nov. 11, 1914 to the Rev. Frank and Eleanor Blodgett Mixsell.

He earned his bachelor's degree from Occidental College and his master's degrees from Cal Tech in meteorology and the University of Southern California in aerospace management. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and continued with the U.S. Air Force Reserves retiring after 30 years as a lieutenant colonel. He came to Lompoc in 1958 from Walnut Creek and was employed as an engineer with civil service retiring in 1973 after 33 years of service.

A life-long member of the Presbyterian Church, Joe has been an active member all of his life and had served as an elder, Moderator of the Presbytery of Santa Barbara and was active with the Synod of Southern California. His devotion to the church life also found him a long time participant in the choir and, in his earlier years, teaching Sunday School.

He also served as chair of the Lompoc Water Commission serving on the board of directors for 20 years; was a trustee of the Lompoc Museum Associates, a member of Friends of the Library, the Air Force Reserves Association where he worked with the Civil Air Patrol and was a past president of Vandenberg Post of the Society of American Military Engineers. Joe's love of the outdoors, preserving nature and hiking led him to be an active member of the Sierra Club. He volunteered his hiking skills with the Boy Scouts in his earlier years in Walnut Creek and later was often found hiking the High Sierra's, Figueroa Mountain and San Jacinto Mountains. Locally, he had been honored with a tree planted in his name at the Recognition Grove at Beattie Park and Cal Poly University at San Luis Obispo names an engineering scholarship in his honor.

He died Saturday, June 21, 2003 at the Convalescent Care Center.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor of nearly 60 years, marrying her Sept. 8, 1943; sons, Bill Mixsell of San Rafael and Robert "Beau" Mixsell of San Bruno; grandchildren, Richard, Lisa, Jennifer, Belinda and Brian Mixsell and numerous nieces and nephews. His daughter, Kathleen, died in February of this year. The youngest of six children, he was also preceded in death by Edith Mixsell, Martha Griggs, Elizabeth Klein and Frank and Bernard Mixsell.


Eleanor Marie Hunt

Eleanor Mixsell, 94, of Lompoc passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2010. Eleanor was born on February 15, 1916 to Williard W. and Elsie Hunt in Los Angeles, California.

Raised in the Glendale area, she graduated from UCLA and taught first grade in Redlands. Eleanor married Joseph W. Mixsell on September 8, 1943. The couple would have three children and live in Walnut Creek and Hawaii, before settling in Lompoc in 1958. She continued in education, working as an aide at many of the local school. She served in a wide variety of organization, including the Lompoc Alpha Club, AAUW, PTA, DAR, and Friends of the Library. She was extremely active in the Presbyterian Church, served at the local, state and national levels, and was ordained as an elder in 1974.

Preceding her in death was her husband of nearly 60 years, Joseph Mixsell and daughter, Kathleen Mixsell.

Eleanor is survived by her sons, Beau (Linda) Mixsell of San Bruno, California and Bill (Sandy) Mixsell of San Rafael, California; and five grand children, Richard Mixsell and Lisa Mixsell of San Bruno, Jennifer Gasmin of Las Vegas, Nevada, Belinda Mixsell of San Rafael and Brian Mixsell of Charleston, Virginia. Eleanor had many friends.

She would always have time to listen, focusing more on others than on herself. She had a great memory for peoples names, and a knack for making folks feel appreciated. She was fortunate to live with great joy and happiness.
