Charles Eugene Claghorn III, a retired accountant and author, died on Sunday, October 30, 2005, at age 93. He was born in Narberth, PA, on Dec.12th,1911.
Graduated from Pierce college in Philadelphia and served in the U.S. Army in World War II. Mr. Claghorn was an accountant for the Interpublic Group in New York City. A resident of Riverside, CT. since 1950, he moved to Cocoa Beach, FL in 1978 and in 2002 to Merritt Island, FL. Gene, as he was called, was a descendent from a long line of composers and songwriters. He wrote the Biographical Dictionary of American Musicians and Composers and the Dictionary of Jazz and books on the American Revolution. His first book, The Mocking Bird, was reviewed in the TIME magazine on May 24, 1937. Gene was the author of many other musical and historical books. He was a past president of Brevard Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and past National Governor of the Honorable Artillery Company, USA - a hereditary society. A member of the Optimist Club. He was also a member of the Society of Cincinnati, Founders and Patriots, the Colonial Society of Pennsylvania.
His loving wife of 63 years, Eileen, survives him with their two sons, LT. Col. Charles of North Las Vegas, NV and Thomas of Milford, CT. Granddaughters, Melissa Smith and husband Clark of Rapid City, SD and Jennifer of Henderson, NV; two great-grandchildren, Colten and Kylee Smith of Rapid City, SD; and a brother, Donald of Vero Beach, FL.

She was born March 6, 1919, in Cookstown, Northern Ireland.
She graduated in 1937 from Lower Marion High School in Ardmore, Pa., raised her family in Greenwich, Conn., and later retired with her husband, Charles, in Coco Beach, Fla. Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, of 64 years, Charles E. Claghorn III.
She is survived by her sons, LTC. Charles E. (Holly) Claghorn IV of North Las Vegas, and Thomas S. Claghorn of Milford, Conn.; granddaughters, Melissa Smith of Box Elder, S.D., and Jennifer Claghorn of Henderson; her great-grandchildren, Colten and Kylee Smith of Box Elder; and her sister, Greta Fyfe of Sunrise, Fla.

October 31, 2008Donald Stuart Claghorn, 86, died Oct. 29, 2008, at Golden Living Center, Spring Hill, Kan.
He was born in Narberth, Pa., and lived in Spring Hill since 2007, coming from Vero Beach, where he lived 8½ years. He served in the Army from 1943 to 1946. He graduated from Drexel (Institute of Technology) University with a bachelor of science in commerce. Before retiring in 1995, he owned and operated a gift and specialty shop on the boardwalk in Ocean City, N.J., for 34 years. He was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati, founded by George Washington during the Revolutionary War. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Vero Beach.
Survivors include his wife, Ethelyn; daughters, Donna Lorin of Olathe, Kan., and Patricia Lynn Plotkin of Egg Harbor City, N.J.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Allen and C. Eugene Claghorn, III.; and a grandson.

February 11, 2018Dr. George S. Claghorn, 98, former Dean of the Faculty of Eastern University, St. Davids, died Monday, February 5th at Abington-Lansdale Hospital.
Dr. Claghorn was one of the founding professors of Eastern University, then Eastern Baptist College in 1952. He served Eastern sixteen years, also as Professor of Philosophy and Director of American Studies. He led summer institutes for high school teachers for six years and wrote the first history of the college, "Mount Up With Wings". Later, he was a director of the school for twelve years. Eastern awarded him an honorary L.H.D. degree in 2004.
Dr. Claghorn's father, Stuart Claghorn, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eugene Claghorn, were former residents of Midland Avenue, Wayne. Dr. Claghorn was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Cape May, NJ. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Chattanooga, and his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. After St. Davids, he taught at West Chester University for forty-one years and was the Chairman of the Department of Philosophy. He also taught at Temple, Penn State, and Penn. He was active in the Greater Philadelphia Philosophy Consortium and served as President of the Fullerton Club. He retired in 2004. In the field of American philosophy, he edited "The Letters and Personal Writings of Jonathan Edwards" published by the Yale University Press in 1998. He was the author of two other philosophy books and numerous journal articles. In addition to teaching, Dr. Claghorn was a Baptist minister. He received the B.D. and D.D. degrees from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary (now Palmer), pastored two churches, and was interim pastor of 36 churches in the tri-state area.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann (Haines) Claghorn; daughter, Elizabeth Austin of Ponte Vedra, FL; son, Stuart Claghorn of Quakertown, daughter in law, Patricia (Flynn) Claghorn; and six grandchildren.

December 30, 2005Russell Max Hitchens, 83, of Jackson Township, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2005 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, after a brief illness.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he lived in Conway prior to moving to Jackson Township four years ago.
He retired from A. H. Robins, Co., Richmond, Va., where he worked for 31 years in sales and sales management. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. At the time, he was the youngest Chief Petty Officer in the Coast Guard or Navy.
Before joining Robins, he worked as a jeweler in Philadelphia; later he used his artistic talent in watercolor painting and embossing. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Claghorn Hitchens, in 2000.
He is survived by two sons, Kenneth Hitchens and his wife, Barbara, of Richmond, Va., and the Rev. Dr. Lawrence Hitchens and his wife, Janis, of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Cheryl Prima and her husband, Matti, of Princeton Junction, N.J.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Delema Coffin of Philadelphia, and Mary Keene of New Port Richey, Fla.; a brother, Gideon Hitchens Jr. or Mantoloking, N.J.; as well as many other family and friends.

November 11, 1997FORMER TEACHER'S AIDE, 71 Ruth Ann Arovitch Claghorn, 71, of Drexel Hill, a retired teacher's assistant and dietary clerk, died of pancreatic failure Wednesday at Delaware County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Claghorn, the wife of the Rev. William L. Claghorn, a retired Presbyterian minister, was active in his ministries in Johnstown; Chester, W.Va.; Harrisburg, Ohio; and Louisville, Ky.
She retired in 1994 from the dietary unit at Delaware County Memorial Hospital. Before that, she was a teacher's assistant for English as a second language at the Beverly Hills Middle School in Drexel Hill until 1991.
She was born in Folcroft, raised in Drexel Hill, and graduated from Upper Darby High School.
In addition to her husband of 47 years, she is survived by children Diahann G. Heverly, Richard B., Philip S. and David J.; a brother; and three grandchildren.

Born Elizabeth Livingston Claghorn, daughter of John Winthrop Claghorn Jr. and Anna Walter Strawbridge of Chestnut Hill, PA.
She was the beloved wife of Alan McIlvain, married for sixty years. She is survived by her sister Susan Aitkin of Pasadena, CA, sons Alan McIlvain, Jr. of Bryn Mawr, PA, and Gordon Weld McIlvain of Raphine, VA, and her daughter Janet Livingston OHara of Hamilton, MA.
She adored her three children, eight grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren, with one on the way.
She served with the American Red Cross in the Philippines during World War II and was very proud of her service. She raised her family at Braemar in Villanova, PA, built Thorn Hill on Nantucket, and lived with her husband for 15 years at Brays Island Plantation, in Sheldon, SC. She was a member of the Society of Colonial Dames, Acorn Club (Philadelphia), Rolling Rock Club (Ligonier, PA), and Merion Cricket Club. Nicknamed Beautiful Betsy by a great friend, our BB was blessed with amazing energy. She was an exceptional hostess, an avid reader, and a complete Anglophile. She was a passionate lover of all dogs, but especially Jack Russell terriers. Her happiest moments were spent walking in England and Scotland or on a beach and being by the sea. Her heroes were Winston Churchill, George Patton, and Clint Eastwood. A world traveler, she visited all over Europe, India, Africa, and many other places, and was always up for another trip. Her last adventure was ballooning over Bagan, Myanmar, at the age of 88, with her daughter and granddaughter. BB was an incurable romantic, utterly devoted to her husband, and she never stopped believing in fairies, mermaids, and true love. We will all miss her very much.

November 29, 2007Alan McIlvain of Wenham, Mass., formerly of Pennsylvania, age 85 years, husband of Elizabeth L. (Claghorn) McIlvain, died Friday evening, Nov. 16, 2007 at Brighton Gardens in Danvers, Mass. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Walter B. and Alida B. (Baird) McIlvain. He attended Haverford School in Haverford, Pennsylvania and the Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during World War II as a Staff Sergeant for the 35th Infantry Division for the United States Army. He landed at Normandy with the 3rd Army in 1944, where he saw combat in France. He also fought during the Battle of the Bulge.
Mr. McIlvain had been President of the Alan McIlvain Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a family lumber business since 1798.
In addition to his wife, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage, he is survived by one daughter, Janet O'Hara and her husband David of Hamilton, Mass.; two sons, Alan McIlvain Jr. and his wife Ann, Gordon McIlvain and his wife Marcia all of Bryn Mawr, PA; eight grandchildren, Coryell Urban, Alan McIlvain III, Wick McIlvain, Weld McIlvain, Jordan McIlvain, Fell McIlvain, Elizabeth O'Hara and Caroline O'Hara; one great grandchild, Carolyn Urban; one brother, Baird McIlvain of Gladwyne, Pa. and several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Gibson McIlvain.

April 27, 2008PRINCETON John Winthrop Claghorn Jr. 84, a Princeton resident since 1953, died April 19 at Constitution Hill.
Born in Philadelphia, he graduated from Chestnut Hill Academy in 1942. Following his graduation he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. In 1946, he married Margery Richardson Claghorn whom he had known since childhood in the Poconos where their families both had summer homes. Mr. Claghorn spent his career at Time, Inc. A member of the Pretty Brook Tennis Club and Pocono Lake Preserve, he was an avid tennis player, paddle tennis player and fly fisherman.
He is survived by his four children, Margery C. Robertson, John W. Claghorn III and his wife Margaret J. Claghorn, David T. Claghorn and his wife Elizabeth W. Claghorn and Susan C. Ferguson and her husband Stuart W. Ferguson; eight grandchildren and two sisters, Elizabeth L. McIlvain and Susan C. Aitken.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margery, sister Anne C. Longstreth and brother Frederic S. Claghorn.

Katharine Taws Claghorn, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday May 24, 2019 at her residence in Meadowood Senior Living in Worcester, PA.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Edward T. and Helen (nee May) Taws.
Mrs. Claghorn was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Sedgeley Club in Philadelphia. She enjoyed socializing at Sunnybrook Golf Club. Katharine's happiest times were spent with her husband on their boat at the Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club and in her garden in Beach Haven, NJ.
Katharine was preceded in death by her beloved husband Frederic S. Claghorn in 2002.
She is survived by her sons, Frederic S. Claghorn, Jr. and his wife Mary of Gwynedd Valley; Edward T. Claghorn and his wife Katrina of Wayne; and James L. Claghorn and his wife Anita of Monterey, CA. She is the grandmother of Kate Ashton, Tara Nicastro, Anne Claghorn, Samantha Claghorn, Fred Claghorn III, Ted Claghorn, Jr, and Justus Claghorn, and great grandmother of seven. Katharine is the dear sister of Edward T. Taws, Jr. of Southern Pines, NC and John M. Taws of Plumsteadville.

May 7, 1958Bucyrus - Juddson D. Geiger, 70, of 1235 S. Sandusky Ave., Bucyrus, died at 2:22 Tuesday afternoon at his home after an illness of five months.
Born Dec. 3, 1887, in Bucyrus, he was the son of Jacob and Millie Fenner Geiger. He was married May 5, 1920, to Margaret Johnston who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Robert J. of Park Forrest, Ill., James F. of Linthicun, Md., and Claire R. Geiger of Wausseon; five grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Albert G. Kern of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Mr. Geiger was the retired president of the Bucyrus Kettle Works, a manufacturing concern founded by his father. A lifetime resident of Bucyrus, he was a graduate of the Rose Polytechnic Institute in Terre Haute, Ind. He belonged to the First Presbyterian Church, was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge Chapter and Council of Marion, treasurer of the Bucyrus Chapter and Council since 1920 and a member of the Board of the Oakwood Cemetery Association.

May 14, 2013Irvin Haskell Lawton, 88, Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013.
He was born in Barlow, Ohio, on Feb. 16, 1925, on his family's farm. On Oct. 4, 1952, he married Mary Ann Stollar, who survives.
Irvin worked for 32 years at H.O. Canfield/Pantasote in Seymour, where he and Mary Ann raised their children before retiring to the family farm. He enjoyed the company of his family, especially when they all gathered at the farm for July 4th celebrations and Thanksgiving. He also liked woodworking, golf, croquet, genealogy, attending church, gardening and tending to his apple trees.
Other survivors include: his siblings, Edward, Isabel Brown and Shirley Ormiston; daughter, Joyce (Jay Nagao); son, James (Charlotte) and their children, Jeffrey, Abby and Kaci Durham; son, Joseph (Elaine) and their children, Lindsey Phelps (Dave), Emily, Lauren Raizk, Michael Raizk and Christopher Raizk; and daughter, Jennifer (Tom) and their children, Karen, Patrick, Mary and Grace.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lou West.

Ruth Anne Lee, 91, of Belpre, passed away on December 18, 2011 at her residence.
She was born May 25, 1920 in Parkersburg, WV, a daughter of the late John H. and Myrtle Sprague Lawton.
Ruth graduated from Belpre High School in 1938 and Marietta College in 1942. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church where she was a member and teacher of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Belpre Historical Society and Marietta Chapter of Mayflower Descendents and was a volunteer for the former Camden Clark Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her four children, Sara "Sally" McInturf and James of Zanesville, Richard Lee of Belpre, Robert J. Lee and Holly of Cincinnati, James Lee of Columbus, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a nephew and two nieces of South Dakota.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Robert Echert Lee, who passed away on May 17, 2000, two brothers John H. Lawton, Jr., and Richard L. Lawton.
