July 17, 2005ST. PAUL -- Leo D. Neel, 84, of St. Paul, formerly of Polk, died Friday, July 15, 2005, at Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Mr. Neel was born Jan. 5, 1921, at York to Alvin and Martha (Guyla) Neel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta.
Survivors of the immediate family include a son, Lee Neel of Archer; two daughters, Gloria Clark of Gainesville, Ga., and JoAnn Osler of Giltner; one foster daughter, Bernadette "Bernie" Kasmanchy of Aurora; two sisters, Opal Rosdahl of Caldwell, Idaho, and Luwanna Bartek of Elmwood; and five brothers, Clyde Neel of Issaquah, Wash; Jack Neel, Bill Neel and Mike Neel, all of North Loup, and Dewey Neel of Ord. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Leo grew up in York until moving to Loup County and Garfield County at the age of 11. He entered the U.S. Army on July 9, 1942, serving in World War II. He was honorably discharged in January 1946.
He was united in marriage to Mary Henion in 1942 in Taylor.
He remarried Roberta "Bobbi" Wiltfang on June 15, 1960, in Harvard. The couple lived in Harvard until moving to North Dakota. They returned to Nebraska in 1963, living in Harvard, Ord, Aurora, Hampton and Chapman. Leo was employed as a truck driver for 21 years, working for the Highway Maintenance Department for the State of Nebraska and was a caretaker, along with his wife, for Bader Park. He retired in 1983. His wife, Bobbi, died Jan. 30, 2000.
His parents, his wife, and three sisters, Fonetta "Blondie" McDermott, Evelyn Conner and Ellen "Jean" Sebesta, preceded him in death.

Opal Lillian Rosdahl, 86, of Caldwell, passed away Aug. 11, 2008.
She was born Aug. 3, 1922, in York, Neb., to Alvin and Martha (Guyle) Neel. She married Joseph E. Conner on June 6, 1940.
Joe and Opal moved to Idaho in 1949 with their four children and later added a son. Joe passed away Jan. 18, 1987, and she later married John Rosdahl in 1988, after becoming a member of the LDS Church. John later passed away.
She was also preceded in death by a son, her parents, three sisters, a brother, a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Joe (Helen) Conner of Paulsbo, WA, Bonnie (Bill) Brown of Caldwell, Louise (Henry) Farrow of Fruitland and Kay (Everett) Reed of Nampa; 21 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren; three step daughters and their families; five brothers, a sister; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Caldwell- Joseph "Joe" E. Conner, 73, of Caldwell, formerly of Payette, died Sunday, Jan 18, 1987 in a Caldwell nursing home.
He was born June 16, 1913, on the Conner homestead northeast of Burwell, Neb, the son of Joseph and Tacy Fitzgerald Conner.
He attended school in the Free Silver School at Burwell. In 1919 he moved with his parents into the town of Burwell where he continued his education. He farmed with his brother, then in 1934-35 he served in the Civilian Conservation Corp at Albion and Pawnee City, Neb.
He married Opal Neel on June 6, 1040 at Oniell, Neb. The honeymooned in Nampa, Idaho for six months then returned to Nebraska.
He worked for the Quaker Ordinance plant in Grand Island, Neb, and later at the Grunkmeyer Meat Market as a butcher. They moved to Homedale in 1949. In 1951 he began working for the Simplot Soilbuilders and continued for 17 years as a night watchman. In 1967 they moved to Payette, where he operated a small engine repair business until his retirement in 1980, at which time they moved to Caldwell. He was a member of the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge of Caldwell.
He is survived by his wife Opal, Caldwell; two sons, Joseph Conner of Loring A.F.B., Maine, and Neil Conner of, Emmett; three daughters, Mrs. William (Bonnita) Brown, Caldwell, Mrs. Henry (Louise) Farrow, Nu Acres, and Mrs. Guy (Kalynn) Strange, Emmett.; two brothers, Otis and Charles, both of Burwell, Neb; 24 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and a sister.

June 25, 2001John Charles Rosdahl, 94, of Caldwell died Saturday, June 23, 2001 at home of natural causes.
John was born May 18, 1907, in Lago, Idaho, to John F. and Amanda C. Petersen Rosdahl. He was raised in Central in Eastern Idaho. The family moved to the Nampa area, where he lived with his wife, Nova, and their four children.
After Nova passed away in 1987, he met and married Opal Conner. They lived in Caldwell for 13 years.
John is survived by his wife, Opal, of Caldwell; 3 daughters, Linda Kipp and Lucille Kipping of Nampa and Bernice Pulli of Caldwell; and a brother, Floyd Rosdahl of Caldwell.
John and Opal's two families joined as one and consisted of nine children; 30 grandchildren; 63 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, Nova, John was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and a son, Darwin.

Evalyn was born March 23, 1924, at Denver, Colo., the daughter of Alvin and Martha Guyle Neel. She married Delvin M. Conner.

March 6, 1991VALE-Delvin M. Conner, 66, Vale, died March 4, 1991, at home after a long illness. He was born June 12, 1924, at Burwell, Neb., to Charles and Eva Swell Conner.
He served in the U. S. Army during World War 11. He and Evelyn Neel were married Aug. 10, 1947, in Arcadia, Neb. They moved to Nyssa in 1958 and to Vale in 1967. Delvin had owned garages in Burwell and Ord, Neb. and a filling station in Scotia, Neb. He retired from Ore-Ida at the age of 55 and worked as parts man at Nyssa Auto Parts. He and Evelyn owned and operated D & E Laundry in Vale from 1967 to 1979. He had been a mechanic since age 16. He loved his work, his family, and helping at the church. He had a good sense ofhumor and was concerned for others. He was an active member of the Vale United Methodist Church, Vale American Legion Post 96, and the Treasure Valley Crankers.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Vale; two daughters, Carolyn Conner of Fruitland, and Donna Egbert of Lynnwood, Wash.; two sisters, Betty Frederick of Taylor, Neb., and Aletha Peterson of Burwell, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Irene and a grandson, Anthony.

ORD � Ellen "Jean" Genevieve Sebesta, 79, of Ord died Friday, July 2, 2004, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Mrs. Sebesta was born April 15, 1925, at York to Alvin and Martha (Guyle) Neel.
Survivors of the immediate family include one son, Gerald Sebesta, of Grand Island; one daughter and son-in-law; Ellen and Keith Gydesen of Scotia; six brothers, Clyde of Issaquah, Wash., Leo of St. Paul, Dewey of Ord and Joe, Bill and Mike, all of North Loup; two sisters, Opal Rosdohl of Caldwell, Idaho, and Lu Wanna Bartek of Lincoln.
Also surviving are one daughter-in-law, Sandy Sebesta of Thornton, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
At the age of five, Ellen's family moved to the Sandhills, north of Taylor and later north of Burwell. She attended country schools in Garfield County and Burwell High School.
On February 25, 1942, she married Arthur Sebesta at Ord. The couple spent a short time in Minatare and Scottsbluff, and Nampa, Idaho, before settling in the Taylor, Burwell and Ord areas.
In 1976, Ellen moved to Grand Island where she worked at the Nebraska Veterans Home. She retired in 1988 and returned to Ord.In 1995, she made her home with her son, Gerald, living in Ord, Colorado and Grand Island. In February 2002, she returned to Ord. Ellen lived at Grandview Assisted Living until June 2004, when she became a resident of the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Ellen enjoyed crossword puzzles, word finds, bingo, yahtzee, crocheting, sewing and cooking family dinners.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Ronnie and Maynard; one great-grandson, Arron Gydesen; and two sisters, Fon Netta McDermott and Evelyn Conner.

September 17, 1998ORD -- Arthur Sebesta, 78, of Ord died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Sebesta was born on Feb. 25, 1920, near Taylor to Josef and Francis (Elsik) Sebesta. He attended Golden Rod School in Loup County and Taylor High School.
He married Ellen Neel on Feb. 25, 1942, in Ord. The couple lived near Taylor, Burwell and Ord. He also lived in western Nebraska and Idaho, working at sugar beet factories there. He moved to a farm east of Ord in 1955 and lived there until his death.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.
Survivors include one son, Gerald of Grand Island; one daughter, Ellen (Mrs. Keith) Gydesen of Scotia; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Otto of Nampa, Idaho; and one sister, Minnie Viner of Loup City.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronnie and Maynard; one brother, Fred; an infant brother; and two sisters, Francis Graham and Mary Adams.

August 23, 2019ORD � Ardon W. McDermott, DC, 83, of Ord passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Ardon William McDermott was born Jan. 26, 1936, near North Loup. He was raised in rural North Loup where he received his education and graduated from North Loup High School in 1953.
From 1954 to 1957, Ardon served in the United States Air Force as a mechanic and was stationed in France and Germany. Following the service he returned to Nebraska and was united in marriage to FonNetta Neel in 1958. To this union two children were born: Crystal and Craig "Chase."
Ardon attended college at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and obtained a doctor of chiropractics degree from Logan College of Chiropractic in Missouri. He remained at Logan College as a professor before returning to Nebraska. Ardon began McDermott Chiropractic in Ord, which he operated until the age of 80. He also farmed in the Springdale area of Valley County.
His wife, FonNetta, passed away in 1982 and he later married Nancy Golson.
Ardon was a member of the Ord Evangelical Free Church; he was involved in the Rotary Club and served on the Airport Authority Board. He was instrumental in the building project of the Atrium at the Ord Hospital and Nursing Home. He had a pilot's license and enjoyed his Cherokee Piper Cub and traveling west to visit family on his Goldwing motorcycle.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy McDermott of Lincoln; a daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Brad Lech of Burwell; a son, Craig "Chase" McDermott of South Carolina; five grandchildren, Kimberly Wysocki, Ashely (Royce) Weeks, Nichole Allen, Robb Burson and Craig McDermott; two great-grandsons, Lakin and Hadley Weeks; a brother, John McDermott of California; and a sister, Emilie McClure of Texas.

May 26, 2013ORD � Dewey Neel, 72, of Ord died Friday, May 24, 2013, as a result of complications of Parkinson's disease.
Dewey was born Feb. 19, 1941, at Burwell to Alvin and Martha (Guyle) Neel.
His younger years were spent on farms in Garfield and Valley counties. He attended several country schools, finishing his schooling in North Loup.
Dewey began his career as a mechanic at an early age, working for his brother-in-law. He then went on to become a John Deere mechanic. He also drove trucks, and owned and operated his own truck. While in Ord, he drove for Jackson Trucking and K-Truck. Dewey retired in 2005.
On June 8, 1985, Dewey was united in marriage to Betty (Poe) Smith. He gained a loving wife and five children, which he treated as his own.
Dewey enjoyed restoring old cars and tinkering in his shop. He also took many trips in his old cars and enjoyed visiting with people about the cars.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; two daughters and a son-in-law, Laurie Smith and Leslie and Dale Ljunggren; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Danny and Marilyn Smith, David Smith and Douglas and Nichole Smith; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three brothers and a sister-in-law, Clyde, Bill and Erma and Mike. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

September 14, 2017ORD � Betty Neel, 77, of Ord returned home to be with her loving Lord and Savior on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017.
Betty was born on Jan. 30, 1940, at Mondamin, Iowa, to Edward A. and Dorothy F. (Shepard) Poe. She received her education at Woodbine, Iowa.
On Jan. 1, 1957, Betty was united in marriage to Lloyd Smith at Woodbine, Iowa. To this union five children were born. The family lived in North Loup and later moved to Grand Island. Mr. Smith passed away on March 25, 1982.
Betty married Dewey Neel on June 8, 1985, at Grand Island. They made their home in Loveland, Colo., for two years before returning to Nebraska and settling in Ord, where Betty made her home until her passing. Mr. Neel passed away on May 24, 2013.
Betty was a loving mother. She was a homemaker that enjoyed baking for everyone. She enjoyed embroidering pillow cases and dresser scarves and was an avid Husker fan.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Marilyn Smith of Kingsville, Mo., David Smith of Lansing, Kan., and Douglas and Nichole Smith of Lincoln; two daughters and a son-in-law, Laurie Smith of Merriam, Kan., and Leslie and Dale Ljunggren of Harvard; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Connie and Curt Kline of Dunlap, Iowa, and Sharron Kindred of Woodbine, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

March 23, 2020Mary H. Lemmer of Cozad died Friday, March 20, 2020 at Emerald Care Center at the age of 87.
Mary was born Aug. 27, 1932 at Holbrook, Nebraska to Elmer and Clarissa (Clarke) Hawthorne. She graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1951. On June 10, 1951, she married Jerome Lemmer at the Evangelical Church in Cozad. Their union was blessed with 6 children, Randall (Mose), Gary (Dutch), Alan (Moose), Kelly (Flakes), Susan and Linda (Pot). The couple raised their family on the family ranch northeast of Cozad. She was a faithful member of the First Lutheran Church of Buffalo.
Everyone she knew thought of her as a mother. She was always feeding people, deer hunters, pheasant hunters, etc.
Survivors include her children, Gary (Kathleen) Lemmer of Cozad, Alan (Leesa) Lemmer of Lexington, Kelly (Theresa) Lemmer of Cozad, Susan (Danny) Buffum of Lincoln and Linda (Dennis) Bauer of Omaha; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Hawthorne of Cozad; sister, Betty (Ray) Kenney of Holbrook; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Harold "Hal" Hawthorne, 87, of Cozad, passed away January 13, 2021 at Emerald Nursing and Rehab. Harold was born October 6, 1933 in Holbrook, NE to Clarissa (Clarke) and Elmer Hawthorne. Harold graduated from Cozad High School in 1952, where he played football and tuba in the high school band.
Harold was a tree trimmer, but for many years, Harold's career was as a salesman where he worked for Bay Electronics, Finco Corporation and Tandy Corporation. In 1989 he completed training in the Ingham Method of Reflexology. He practiced reflexology for 30 years and helped many people to better health.
For many years he was a member of the Elks Lodge. He was also a member of the American Lutheran Church, where he served as a deacon.
Harold is survived by his sister Betty and husband Ray McKenney, of Holbrook, NE. His son Phillip Hawthorne, of Mesa, AZ, two daughters, Cynthia and husband Dave Monyhan, of Winona, MN and Beverly Pelerine, of Riverside, CA. Four Grandchildren and two great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

July 24, 2017LT. William "Red" J. Edgar Jr., E.P.D. Retired, (88), of the Thompsonville section of Enfield, widower of Maria (Festa) Edgar (2010), entered into eternal peace, Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at West Haven V.A. Hospital. Born in Springfield, MA, December 8, 1928, he was raised in Enfield and was the son of the late William J. Edgar Sr., and Edith (Miller) Edgar.
After graduating from Enfield High School, Red enlisted in the U.S. Army serving honorably following World War II. He attended American International College and in 1959 he became a police officer proudly serving his hometown community with the Enfield Police Dept. He retired from the Dept. as Lieutenant April 30, 1994. Red's service to the Enfield community went farther beyond his Law Enforcement career. He served on the Enfield Town Council from 1995-1999, and was re-elected in 2001 representing District 2 . He was a longtime member of the Enfield Democratic Town Committee and became the Democratic Caucus' minority leader in 2013. Red served as a Service Officer for over 20 years for the A.M.V.E.T.S. serving many veterans. He was a member of many veterans and civic organizations on both local and state levels.
He was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Enfield. Red was an avid NY Yankees and NY Giants fan. Red was devoted to his family, his community, his state, and his country.
Red is survived by his children, Teresa M. September 17, 2010Maria ''Tina'' F. (Festa) Edgar, 85, of Enfield beloved wife of William ''Red'' J. Edgar, Jr. of 49 years, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, (September 15, 2010), in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Hartford on September 4, 1925, the sixth of seven children of the late Guiseppi and Antoinette (Vasquenza) Festa.
Tina was educated in the West Hartford School System and graduated from William Hall High School, Class of 1943. She was a communicant of St. Patrick Church and was very involved in community and local organizations. Tina was a 50 year member of VFW Auxiliary #4740 in Windsor, Past President of AMVETS Auxiliary Post #18, Past President of the State of CT Department of AMVETS Auxiliary, past member of the Emblem Club (Women of Elks), member of the Woman's Club of Enfield, and past member of the Enfield Democratic Town Committee. She volunteered for the Association for Retarded and Handicapped Citizens and hosted a Christmas party at her own expense calling attention to their cause. Tina did catering at the Enfield AMVETS, feeding the hungry and homeless and she never let a veteran go without. She also enjoyed other charity work and giving to the less fortunate. She derived her greatest joy and satisfaction in life from providing a safe and nurturing environment for her family who loved her deeply and will miss her always.

June 24, 2017Kenneth E. Hinckley, Sr., 92, of Suffield, beloved husband of Dorothy (Sweatland) Hinckley passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017. Born August 15, 1924 in Suffield, son of the late Harold and Lillian (Tilden) Hinckley.
Ken served in the US Navy during WWII. He was a member of American Legion Suffield Post 94. Other than his time in the military, Ken lived his entire life within 200 feet of his birthplace home. He worked as a carpenter, he worked for Aetna Life and Casualty for many years as the carpentry supervisor before retiring.
Besides his wife, Dorothy of 67 years, he is survived by a son, Charles Hinckley and his wife, Laurie, a son Kenneth Hinckley, Jr., a daughter, Sandra Files and her husband, Terry; a brother, John Hinckley and his wife, Virginia; a sister, Judith Whitten. Ken was predeceased by a son, Keith Hinckley.

April 21, 2018Dorothy (Sweatland) Hinckley, 91, of Suffield, wife of the late Kenneth Hinckley, died Tuesday, April 17 ,2018. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Annie (Zimmerman) Sweatland.
Dorothy was raised in West Suffield where she became a proud member of the West Suffield Grange. She remained a faithful member for well over 75 years. She married Ken in 1950 and moved to Suffield where they raised their family.
Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Sandy Files and husband Terry of South Windsor, a son Charles Hinckley and wife Laurie of Yuba City, CA and a son Kenneth Jr. and his daughter, Jasmin, of Agawam, MA.
She was pre-deceased by a son, Keith Hinckley.

March 4, 1994HINCKLEY. Constance (Godard) Hinckley, 66, of 80 Benedict Drive, South Windsor, widow of H. Bruce Hinckley, died Thursday (March 3, 1994) at Hartford Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Granby, she had lived for many years in West Granville, Mass., moving to South Windsor in 1971. She worked for the South Windsor Board of Education for many years, retiring in 1993, also from 1965 to 1971 she worked for the Noble & Cooley Drum Shop, Granville, Mass. Constance graduated from Ganby High School, class of 1946, she also played the organ, piano, and sang in the choir of the Granville Federated Church in Granville, Mass.
She leaves three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronald and Diane Hinckley of Clinton, Bruce and Kristine Hinckley of Ware, Mass., and David Hinckley of South Windsor; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Marshall Dickerson of Shelton, Betsy and Bob Davis of Bloomfield, Ind., and Lauren and Joe Chistolini of Granville, Mass.; a sister, Arlene Godard o f Windsor; eighteen grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister, Sylvia G. Grant. F

March 21, 2008Mrs. Nancy Hinckley Trombley passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Thursday (March 13, 2008).
Nancy was born December 13, 1928 in Suffield daughter of the late Harold A. and Lillian Tilden Hinckley, married Louis James Trombley July 25, 1946.
She has lived in Massachusetts, Washington, Arizon and Oregon. Nancy retired from Kaiser Permanente after 15 years of service. Some of her interests were spending time at the pool, knitting, reading, crossword puzzles going to the Casino.
She was a loving wife and mother and is survived by her husband Louis, and family, Louis H. and Patty Trombley of Steubenville OH, Lee and Aggie Trombley of Portland OR, Linda and Mark Lathrop of Washougal, WA, Lonna Trombley of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Jason Trombley and Dustin Eller. Nancy had one sister Judith Hinckley Whiten, three brothers Kenneth E, the late H. Bruce and John W. Hinckley and fourteen nieces and nephews.

Lou was born in West Springfield, Mass. He served in the Navy during World War II. Lou played the role of Santa Claus to dozens of children throughout Portland, Vancouver, and Phoenix. Lou was active with the social events at the Royal Villa Mobile Home Park also Buzzin Bees Square Dance Club and Kaiperm Kapers. He enjoyed gardening, going to the casino and telling stories.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Lou is survived by his sons, Louis (Patty) Trombley and Lee (Agnes) Trombley; daughters, Linda (Mark) Lathrop and Lonna Trombley; and grand-children, Jason Trombley and Dustin Eller.

January 27, 2018Judith H. Whitten, 86, of Windsor Locks, formerly of Suffield, beloved wife, mother and matriarch, died surrounded by her family on Sunday, January 21, 2018.
Judith was predeceased by her late husband William 'Bill' Whitten III and daughter Lisa M. Whitten. She is survived by sons William R. Whitten IV and his wife Madeline of Brooklyn; Tom Whitten and his wife Christine of Simsbury; her granddaughter Andrea Boyd and husband Travis of Chesapeake, Virginia; and grandson William R. Whitten V of Brooklyn. She also leaves two great-grandsons, Deandré and Jordan, both of Chesapeake.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Judith was a model of integrity and hard work and an inspiration to her children.

May 26, 2009William R. ''Bill'' Whitten, 77, of Windsor Locks, the beloved husband of Judith H. Whitten, died surrounded by his family at Hartford Hospital on Friday (May 22, 2009) from complications resulting from an automobile accident.
Born on March 20th, 1932, he was the son of the late William R. Whitten and Carolyn Biardi Whitten.
He was a lifelong resident of Windsor Locks and was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa M. Whitten. Bill graduated from Windsor Locks High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1952. He was a combat veteran who served with the 35th Infantry Regiment of the 25th, ''Tropic Lightning'' Division, in Korea. He later worked at Choice Vend and Kaman Aerospace.
Bill devoted his life to caring for the love of his life, his wife of 48 years, Judy, who has been afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis for over two decades. He had a wonderful zest for life that was reflected by his generous spirit, his friendly and affable nature, and his ability to bring excitement and fun to the simplest of life's pleasures. He was an avid reader, a jazz aficionado, an expert fly fisherman who tied his own flies, and a life long athlete with a particular love and passion for basketball. For the past 10 years, Bill found a constant and much beloved companion in his feisty dog, Aiden, who went nearly everywhere with him. He was a true gentleman and enjoyed family gatherings at his son's house, and would always begin family feasts with a prayer for the poor, homeless, and wayward. Bill had an unforgettable warm smile and kind words for anyone he would meet. His love of conversation and warm presence will be greatly missed.
Bill leaves his wife Judy; two sons, Bill Whitten of Brooklyn, NY, Tom Whitten and his wife Christine of Simsbury; a granddaughter, Andrea of Virginia; and two great-grand children also of Virginia.

July 9, 2019Eugene F. "Gene" Tilden, 87, of Springfield, MA, beloved husband of Janet (Marsh) Tilden, entered into Eternal Rest on Thursday, July 4, 2019.
He was born in Suffield, CT on September 25, 1931, son of the late Fred and Edith (Merrifield) Tilden.
Gene grew up in the Thomsonville area of Enfield where he attended school. He proudly served his country for over 20 years until his retirement in December of 1970 as Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Gene was especially devoted to his wife and family and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his beloved dogs. He was an avid reader and enjoyed tending his garden. Gene held a special interest in genealogy and was well versed in the nine generations of his family that lived in the area. He also had a love for the homeland of his English bride, and made frequent visits there.
In addition to his loving wife of 62 years, Janet, Gene is survived by his children, Karen Tilden and her husband Steven Grant of Marion, MA, Joy Dion of Rosamond, CA, Cindy Grimaldi and her husband Wayne Grimaldi of Blanford, MA, and Janene Kane and her partner April Achorn of Springfield, 12 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Fred Tilden and James Tilden; his sisters, Patricia Lynch and Sandra Jorey; his son-in-law Raymond Dion; and his grandson, Samuel Tilden Allen.

Patricia has lived in Monson for the past 18 years, previously residing in Springfield. She was a member of AmVets in Enfield, loved reading, TLC Channel, but most importantly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was their caregiver, babysitter, second mother, and friend.
Patricia was predeceased in death by her husband George F. in 1999, and is survived by her children, Daniel of CA, Sheryl Gatto of Ware, Leslie Giblin of Monson, Bonnie Shannon of Springfield, and Beth Mariani of Monson. Harold was born in Springfield, MA and had been a resident of East Longmeadow for most of his life.
He was retired from ABB (formerly Combustion Engineering). Harold enjoyed tennis and was active at the Ludlow Tennis Club. As a motor cars enthusiast, he was a member of the Strokers Club.
Besides his wife Sandra, Harold is survived by two daughters, Dr. Suzanne Jorey of East Longmeadow, and Lynn Henrich of Manchester, CT; two grandchildren, Kyle and Taylor Henrich; a great granddaughter, Dahlia Macfeat; a half-sister, Sally Drown; and his beloved canine companions, Stella, Jo-Jo, Lizzie, and Jake.

November 10, 2013James Bruce Tilden was born November 20, 1917 in Suffield, CT to James Horace Tilden and Eleanor Mariah McNutt.
Jim was the youngest of 5 children, all of whom preceded him in death.
A New Englander at heart, Jim passed away at the age of 95 at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City on November 5, 2013.
In 1937, at the height of The Great Depression, Jim entered the Navy where he served for 20 years. While in the Navy, he saw the world. He was proudest of his time on the USS South Dakota (1942-1943), also known as Battleship X, where he saw action in the battle of Santa Cruz and he was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon for his outstanding heroism. He also served on the USS Quincy, USS California, USS Alaska, USS Damato, USS Vulcan, USS Newport News and the USS Saratoga; and he received many other medals. He retired from the Navy as Chief Warrant Officer in 1960 and started his civilian career at Cape Canaveral where he was part of the team to put the first man into space and the first man on the moon.He retired a second time and went to work with Southern Bell where he worked until his third retirement in 1983 when he started enjoying traveling by RV, golf, boating and fishing on a full-time basis.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth, also a WWII Veteran; his sons, Robert (Carolyn) and David (Lynette); and his grandsons, Riley and Corwin.

OKLAHOMA CITY Ruth Lee (Carrell) Tilden was the last survivor of the Carrell Ten. She was the ninth of ten children born to Myrtle and Newton Carrell in Hughes County, Oklahoma.
Ruth's family were migrant farmworkers in her early years. After high school, she attended Draughon's Business College in OKC and was recruited into the USN Waves in Washington DC, engaged in the war effort. There she met her husband, James B. Tilden, with whom she traveled the world and raised her family. Ruth will be remembered as a dedicated wife and mother, an active supporter of the Southern Baptist Church, an artist and a free thinking intelligent, funny and positive woman. She will be sorely missed on earth, and joyously celebrated in eternal life.
She followed her husband, James Bruce Tilden, to be with the angels.
Survivors include her sons, Robert Nelson and wife Carolyn, and David Glenn Tilden and wife Lynette; and grandsons, Riley James and Corwin James Tilden.
