May 9, 2008SLADE, Dorothy (nee: Millett) 91 entered eternal peace on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at the Wood Glen Nursing Home in Centerville after a long illness. Born January 8, 1917 in Columbus, IN to Rose Reed and William Millett.
She retired from Elder-Beerman, having started in the old Elder Store in downtown Dayton and later moving out to the Centerville store.
She married Harold G. Slade on January 30, 1937. He preceded her in death in February 11, 1988. She is also preceded in death by 4 sisters and 4 brothers.
She is survived by three sons: Richard (Mary) Slade of West Bend, WI, Thomas (Bernice) Slade of Miamisburg and Charles (Marsha) Slade of Tomahawk, WI., four grandson's, Richard (Sherry) Slade II of Brighton, MI, Col. David (Suzanne) Slade of Aviano, Italy, Brian (Lisa) Slade of Zeeland, MI and Bradley (Tracie) Slade of Wildwood, MO, five granddaughters: Tammie (Ron) Gordon of Oak Creek, WI, Tonya (Greg) Dudley of Dayton, Charla (Tim) Layer of Kettering, Susan (Damon) Oedy of Indianapolis, IN, Carolyn (Sherman) Everett of Houston, TX, 22 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, sisters in law, Janet (Harold) West of Beavercreek and Mary Slade of Centerville, Brother in law, Mentor Slade of Dayton and many nieces and nephews.

January 24, 1952Funeral services will be held at the Haskell & Morrison funeral home in Vevay, Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock for Mrs. Estella Haskell Lauderbaugh, 81, who passed away early Tuesday morning at the home of her daugher, Mrs. Gladys Lothridge at Five Points. Rev. R. E. Bolton will conduct the last rites.
Mrs. Lauderbaugh was a native of Jefferson county where she was born on September 18, 1870. Her parents were Thomas and Julia Turner Haskell.
She was married to Beecher Lauderbaugh on September 11, 1889 and their happy companionship endured until his death on April 3, 1942. Eight children were born to the couple and all of them survive except one son, Avon, who passed away on September 8, 1940.
Mrs. Lauderbaugh was a devoted wife and mother and the care of her home and family left her little time for outside interests.
She was a member of the Morris Chapel church and later of Mt. Zion Church and as long as her health permitted she was active in their work.
The greater part of her life was passed in Switzerland county at her farm near Five Points where she possessed a wide circle of friends. During her frequent visits to the home of her son Eldo Lauderbaugh in Vevay she also made many friends.
Surviving with the daughter and son mentioned above are the following children, Rev. Thomas Lauderbaugh and Ray Lauderbaugh of North Vernon, Marcus Lauderbaugh of Brooksburg, R. 2, Mrs. Lillie Eades of Manteno, Ill., and Mrs. Zella Satchwell, of Aberdeen. She also leaves a brother, David Haskell of Jefferson County.

February 22, 1988Zella Shuck, 77 404 Main St., died at Mercy Hospital Saturday. Born Aug 23, 1910, in Switzerland County, she was the daughter of Beecher and Stella (Haskell) Lauderbaugh. She was first married to Rowlett Satchwill, who died in 1961. In 1964 she marred Floyd Shuck, who died in 1986.
She was retired from Mercy Hospital. She was a member of the East Main Street Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star, 50-Plus Club and Busy Bee Club.
She is survived by a son, Charles Satchwill of Indianapolis; one brother, Ray Lauderbaugh of North Vernon; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Two sons preceded her in death.

January 1961William Rowlett Satchwill, 53, who owned and operated a garage in Aberdeen, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home on December 28. After Mr. Satchwill was stricken the Rising Sun rescue squad was called and administered oxygen, but life was extinct.
Mr. Satchwill was one of Aberdeen's most prominent citizens. A member of the Aberdeen Methodist church, he had been active in its work and had served as a steward and trustee.
He also held membership in the Masonic and Eastern Star lodges at Rising Sun and had held various offices in the organization.
A native of Ghent, Ky., the son of William and Effie Satchwill, he had resided in Indiana since childhood.
He graduated from Vevay high school and on February 22, 1930 was married to Miss Zella Lauderbaugh.
With his wife he is survived by three children, Robert A. of Kokomo, David L. of Cincinnati, and Charles Nelson, at home. He also leaves his mother and a sister, Miss Mayme Satchwill, both of Aberdeen, and four grandchildren.

November 22, 1986Floyd Shuck, 83, 404 Main St., Elwood, died Friday evening at the Tipton Nursing Home. He was born in Kempton Sept. 18, 1908 the son of William and Ira Mitchell Shuck. He was a laborer with the Norfolk and Western Railroad for 27 years. He was a member of the East Main Street Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Zella Lauderbaugh, one step-son, Charles Satchwill of Indianapolis; one brother, Delmos Shuck of Salem, IN; seven step grand-children and three step-great-grand children.

December 24, 2020Florence M. Smith Wilson Haskell, 98, of Vevay, Indiana, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay.
She was born April 20, 1922, in Switzerland County, Indiana, to Albert Uley and Alice Copeland Smith. She was raised and attended school there and married Woodrow Wilson on May 22, 1939. She was widowed on April 1, 1978, and later married Herbert Ward "Hosey" Haskell on Aug. 6, 1994. She was a former employee for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay for 30 years and later was a chef for the Ogle Haus for four years and cook for Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for eight years. She was a former member of the Hope Rebekah Lodge No. 851 of Bennington, Indiana, and the Center Square Home Economics Club. She was a member of the Mt. Sterling Baptist Church in Mt. Sterling, Indiana.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Katherine Ray of Vevay; a brother, Roy Lee Smith of Canaan, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 39 years, Woodrow Wilson and husband of six years, Herbert Ward "Hosey" Haskell; her sons, Charles "Shorty" Wilson and Marion Wilson; five brothers, Robert P. Smith, Morgan Smith, Raymond Smith, James E. Smith and Lawrence Smith; and three sisters, Lottie Webster, Jannetta McComas, and Martha Jean "Jeannie" Wentworth.

Mrs. Bertha L. Loggins, 85, died Wednesday, at the Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg, after an extended illness. She was a native of Jefferson County but had spent most of her life in Switzerland County. Mrs. Loggins has been at the Milan Health and Hospitality Center for the past six years.
She was a member of the Ebenezer Methodist Church, near Moorefield.
She is survived by three sons, Orville Jackson, Indianapolis; Roscoe Jackson, near Moorefield and Russell Jackson, Vevay; two daughters, Mrs. Isabella Griffith of near Enterprise; and Mrs. Helen Stewart, Cincinnati; 17 grandchildren, and 37 great grandchildren.

August 15, 1960Services were held today at 1:30 p.m. at the Lytle Mortuary for Samuel Courtney, 86, 1312 W. Second street, city, who died Saturday at King's Daughters' Hospital. Interment was in Springdale Cemetery.
Mr. Courtney died after a long illness. He had been at the hospital for three days.
He was a horse trainer by trade.
Mr. Courtney is survived by his wife, Lydia; two sons; Harry Courtney, route four, Vevay, and Samuel Courtney, Jr., Indianapolis; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

October 18, 2005Harry Courtney, 88, of 341 S.R. 156, Vevay, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at Hanover Nursing Center.
He was born Nov. 14, 1916, in Madison, the son of Samuel and Lydia Ann Haskell Courtney. He was a commercial fisherman since the age of 7, retiring at the age of 80. He moved to Switzerland County in 1951, residing near Markland. He worked for the town of Vevay police in 1964. In the 1950s he served as guard for Deputy U.S. Marshal Deb Loos. In the 1930s and 1940s he owned Devil's Backbone in Jefferson County. He also worked security for Kentucky Utilities Ghent Power Plant in Ghent, Ky., through the 1980s. He served a brief stint in the Army. He loved to fish, hunt, build fishing nets and boats.
Surviving are one son, Patrick Wayne Courtney of Madison; one granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Glenna Frances Stoner Courtney, whom he married June 3, 1939, and who died April 8, 1989; and two brothers, Freddie and Sam Courtney Jr.

Born in Madison, Indiana and served his apprenticeship as a blacksmith at the old Madison Machine Co. and worked there for 20 years. In 1917 he went to work for the U.S. Government doing lock & dam work and was stationed at Fernbank until his illness. He returned to Madison to the home of his brother, Grover, where he passed away.
Veteran of the Spanish-American War serving in Co. F of the 159th Indiana Infantry.
