September 26, 1992George W. Haskell, 80, a Congregational minister who was a pastor of churches in Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Whittier. Haskell, who earned a divinity degree from Yale and a doctoral degree from USC, where he also taught, came to Southern California in 1937 and spent two years in Hemet. He was pastor of Western Knoll Congregational Church in southwest Los Angeles from 1939 to 1954 and of the First Congregational Church of San Bernardino from 1954 to 1964. He retired from the active minist ry as pastor of Hillcrest Congregational Church of Whittier in 1975. He also had been a moderator of the United Church of Christ's Conference of Southern California and the Southwest. In La Jolla on Sunday.

Survived by his son, Donald, of Yorba Linda; daughter, Susan Maxson of Capistrano Beach; brother, Norman, of Santa Ana; sisters, Grace Ford of Lake Forest and Marguerite MacMurray of Washington state; and five grandchildren.

Pearl C. Reed Verwey, 94, of Ripley, Tenn., formerly of Grant Park, died Saturday, November 17, 2012, in Jackson, Tenn. She was born February 4, 1918, in Fowler, Ind. She married John J. Verwey on June 26, 1937, in Chicago, and he died January 11, 1990. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia Ann Verwey and Shirley Ann Bryson; two grandchildren, David Verwey and Marcia Verwey; and her parents, Freeman and Emma Osborne Reed.
