61273. Reta Vivian Bisbee

Reta (Bisbee) Stanton-Lovering, 96, of Standish, Maine, formerly of Saugus and Melrose, died September 30, 2006, at the Harborside Crestwood Nursing Home in Milford, N.H. She was the wife of the late Lewis H. Lovering III.

Born and raised in Saugus, she was the daughter of the late H. Dwight and Sara E. (Mosher) Bisbee, founder of the former Bisbee Funeral Home in Saugus, which was established in 1902.

Mrs. Stanton-Lovering was a graduate of the New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing and was employed as a registered nurse at various healthcare facilities, retiring in 1972. She also had resided in Melrose for a number of years.

She is survived by two sons, Theodore Stanton and Richard Stanton, both of Maine; one daughter, Priscilla Stanton-Fowle, of New Hampshire; and one sister, Vera Underhill of Rochester.

She was also the sister of the late Malcolm Bisbee and Freda Bisbee.

ROCHESTER - Vera A. (Bisbee) Underhill, 95, of Rochester, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Forestview Nursing Home in Wareham. She was the wife of the late Frederick W. Underhill Sr. Born and educated in Saugus, she was the daughter of the late H. Dwight and Sarah (Mosher) Bisbee of Saugus. Mrs. Underhill graduated from Framingham State College, class of 1935.

Mrs. Underhill was formerly employed as an Extension Agent in Essex County, and worked as a teacher at New Bedford Vocational High School. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Rochester, the Framingham State College Alumni Association, the Massachusetts Teacher's Retirement Association and the Rochester Historical Society.
Mrs. Underhill was co-author of two books, "Creative Hooked Rugs" and "Blessing of a Legacy".

Survived by her son, Frederick W. Underhill Jr.; three grandchildren, Kimberly Underhill Correia and Matthew and Mark Underhill all of Rochester; and five great grandchildren.

DOVER, NH - Mrs. Lillian M. "G. G." (Pittard) Bisbee, 92 years, formerly of Saugus, died on Wednesday, November 17th at the Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH.

She was the wife of the late Malcolm M. Bisbee.

Born in Lynn and raised in Saugus, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Ellen (Joy) Pittard. Mrs. Bisbee was a 1936 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Lynn, Emmanuel College, Boston in 1940 and then earned her Master's Degree from Suffolk University in Boston. She taught at Saugus High School until 1985 when she retired after 38 years of service. She had been a resident of New Hampshire since 1981.

Mrs. Bisbee leaves one daughter, Jane (Bisbee) Rial of Dover, NH; one sister, Agatha Murphy of WV, eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by one son, Thomas Bisbee, one daughter, Judith Bisbee, one sister, Margaret Cove and one brother, Frederick Pittard.

Florence Virginia Nightingale Washburn, formerly of Westchester, St. Charles, Naperville, and most recently the Wesley Village Apartments and The Elms in Macomb, passed away peacefully at The Elms on Monday morning, May 10, 2016.

Florence was born to Arthur and Mabel Nightingale, East Wareham, Mass., on April 26, 1919. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent O. Washburn, in January of 2005; her parents and beloved sister, Norma (Bud) Fenerty.

Florence married Vincent on March 19, 1944. Florence was a beautician who supported herself while Vince was a machinist in the Navy aboard the U.S. Block Island during World War II.

Florence and Vince moved to Illinois with son, John, in 1948. Two more children, Norma and Sarah, were born in Illinois. Florence was a busy homemaker who volunteered with the Girl Scouts, PTO, and sang in the church choir, along with participating in various church and women's groups.

After the children grew older, Florence worked in Dietary at Loyola Hospital, helping to set up the many banquets at the hospital.

Florence was most proud of her children: John (Sally) Washburn, of Carbondale, Norma (David) Kentner, of Macomb, and Sarah Cordray, of Naperville; her grandchildren Andrea (Kirk) Gillman, Lisa (Steve) Owens, of Chicago, Tim (Kori) Shane, Terry Shane, of Cedar Rapids, and Willliam Cordray, of Los Angeles; great-grandchildren Lana Gillman, Samantha Gillman, Annalee Owens, Elias Vincent Shane and Ellorie Shane. She was also very fond of her step-grandchildren Lisa (Mark) Rochford and Lora (Richard) Meier, and step-great-grandchildren Edward Gillman, Philip Meier, Thomas Meier, and Rachel Rochford. She also tried to keep in touch with her cousins, especially Mary Jane Ackerman (East Wareham) and nieces and nephews, especially John Shimkus, Jr., in Massachusetts and Texas.

Florence was a wonderful communicator. People were delighted to hear her talk as she never lost her Cape Cod accent, even after 60-plus years of living in the Midwest. She loved her many friends, her church and was a great sender of cards and writer of letters. She crocheted many afghans for family members and read many books until her failing eyesight prevented these hobbies. She enjoyed her African violets and was a true cat lady, owning orange tabby, Sam, who was loved for at least 23 years.


Vincent Oliver Washburn

Vincent O. Washburn, 84, of Westchester and retired with his wife, Florence, to St. Charles. Passed away Jan. 28, 2005. Born July 18, 1920 in Lakeville, Mass. to Merle C. and Ina (Chase) Washburn.

He married Florence Nightingale on March 19, 1944 in East Jaffrey, New Hampshire; she survives.

Also surviving is a son, John (Sally) Washburn; two daughters, Norma (David) Kentner and Sarah Beth Cordray; five grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Washburn served in the Navy during WWII abroad the U.S.S. Block Island. He was a wood veneer salesman, and owned and operated The Stoneman Co., Ltd. in Oak Park. He also worked at the Hammond Organ Co. and Brody Seating Co. He was a member of the Optimists Club in Oak Park and a Mason.

Mrs. Mary Frances Smith, 72, of Depot St., East Wareham, died at her home Monday, Nov. 14.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Thomas M. and Mary (Sheehan) Feeley. The widow of the late Howard M. Smith, she had made her home in East Wareham for 47 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John H. Ackerman of East Wareham; a son, Howard M. Smith Jr., of Williamsburg, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Riley and Miss Anne Feeley, both of Winthrop; two brothers, John Feeley of Beachmont and Thomas Feeley of Lafayette, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.
