Benjamin L. Husemann

Benjamin L. Husemann, 79, of Crestridge Manor, Maquoketa, Iowa, formerly of Ecumenical Towers, Dubuque, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Crestridge Manor.

Mr. Husemann worked as a cement mason for Gilbert F. Roling Construction Co. for 29 years until his retirement.

He was born on Feb. 12, 1921, in Dubuque, son of Ludwig and Freda (Teitz) Husemann. He married Shirley Mae Haskell on May 24, 1941, in Cascade; she died Dec. 24, 1988.

He served with the Army during World War II in the 2nd Infantry Division. He served in Normandy and Czechoslovakia and was awarded three Purple Hearts for injuries sustained in battle. He was a member of the Plaster and Cement Mason Union Local 145 for 30 years. He enjoyed playing cards and shuffleboard and visiting with friends.

Surviving are five daughters, Sally M. (Charles Sr.) Casel, of Zwingle, Iowa, Linda F. (Raymond) Hayes, of Dubuque, Shirley A. (Paul) Frommelt, of Hazel Green, Wis., Pamela M. (Jerry) Schroeder, of Balltown, Iowa; and Edith H. (David) Kramer, of Dubuque; nine sons, John H. (Ann) Husemann, of Dubuque, Thomas A. (Georgette) Husemann, of Wahiawa, Hawaii, Benjamin R. (Pat) Husemann, of Oak Grove, Mo., Peter L. (Mary) Husemann, of Fort Hood, Texas, Karl D. Husemann, of Hazel Green, Rudy P. (Debbie) Husemann, of Andrew, Iowa, Robert R. Husemann, of Dubuque, Patrick M. (Julie) Husemann, of Zwingle, and Frank L. (Karla) Husemann, of Dubuque; 43 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Kalloway, of Dubuque; and three brothers, Rudolph (Bernice) Husemann, Ernest (Mary Ann) Husemann and Louis (Kate) Husemann, all of Dubuque.

He also was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.

MAQUOKETA, Iowa - Linda F. Hayes, 66, of Maquoketa, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

She was born on Aug. 12, 1946, in Dubuque, daughter of Benjamin and Shirley (Haskell) Husemann. She married Raymond Hayes on Nov. 27, 1965, in Dubuque.

She was a homemaker who also cared for foster children and was a day care provider. In early years, she was a CCD teacher and a Girl Scout leader. She loved to cook, play Scrabble and was an avid bingo player.

Surviving are her husband, Raymond; three children, Maxine (David) Tone, of Dubuque, Tammy (Charles) Surges, of Eau Claire, Wis., and Thomas (Kimmy) Hayes, of Asbury; eight grandchildren, Alex and Kirsten Tone, Dar Kelley, Sarah, Emily and Charles IV Surges, Byren Hayes and Brittany Winders; two great-grandchildren, Brayden and Cadence Becker; 10 siblings, Thomas (Georgette) Husemann, of Maquoketa, Sally (Charles) Casel and Shirley (Paul) Frommelt, both of Zwingle, Pamela (Jerry) Schroeder, of Sherrill, Peter (Mary) Husemann, of Conmiskey, Ind., Karl Husemann, of Dubuque, Rudolph (Deb) Husemann, of Wheatland, Robert Husemann, of Sherrill, Patrick (Julie) Husemann, of Zwingle, and Frank (Karla) Husemann, of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Helen (Dale) Kueter, of Cedar Rapids; and special friends, Sarah Dalen, Sandy Meyer and Becky Torres.

Benjamin Robert Husemann Sr., 60, of Lexington, Mo., formerly of Dubuque, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at home.

Burial of the cremated remains will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Mo.

He was born on March 11, 1948, in Dubuque, son of Benjamin and Shirley (Haskell) Husemann. He married Mary Patricia Manderscheid on March 11, 197

Ben was a Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War.

He was an installer of steel beams for new home construction.

Ben was a member of the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Pat, of Lexington; a son, Bob (Trina) Husemann, of Bates City, Mo.; two daughters Nicole Husemann and Amanda (Matt) Bertz, both of Lexington; 13 brothers and sisters; and seven grandchildren and two more on the way.

He was preceded in death by a son Benjamin Robert Husemann Jr., in 1976.

Richard "Dick" Haskell, 84, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on October 25, 2017, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born on March 24, 1933, in Cook County, Chicago, the son of Harvey Haskell and Nellie Stevens. He married Rosie (Birch) Heinze on September 9, 1978, in Dubuque. He was previously married to the late Eva Meisenberg. He worked for Dubuque John Deere as a machine operator until his retirement March 30, 1989.

He was a member of the UAW Local 94 and the Dubuque Bowling Association 700 Club. He served on the shop committee as an alternate.

Richard was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing, and he and Rosie loved to travel with their friends to Mexico until he could no longer travel.

He is survived by his wife, Rosie; his brother, Robert; his son, Rick (Sharon) Haskell, and their children, Shelly Brenke and Keith Haskell; his daughter, Patti Sarazin, and her children, Melissa Sarazin and Andrew Sarazin; stepson Frank (Annie) Heinze; stepdaughter Debbie (Dick) Smith, of Cedar Falls, IA, and their children, Elizabeth Warriner, Matt Smith, Joleyne Kramer, and Lori Hill; stepson, John Heinze, and his children, John Heinze Jr., Justin Tindell and Heather Kohn; and stepdaughter Trish Julson and her children, Tim Heinze, Travis Julson, and Alan Julson Jr.; along with many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Shirley Husemann and Beverly Long; and several cousins.

Eva J. Haskell Tissue, 62, 701 Cedar Cross Road, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, at Heritage Manor.

She worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co. for 25 years, then at the Best Western Dubuque Inn for five years. She most recently was employed at the Julien Care Center for two years.

She was born on Feb. 15, 1936, in Dubuque, daughter of Jacob and Eva (Vondal) Meisenburg.

She received her education in Dubuque-area schools.

Surviving are a daughter, Patti (Steve) Sarazin, of Dubuque; a son, Rick (Sharon) Haskell, of Dubuque; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Geraldine (Alex) Alesander, of Hitchson, Minn., and Rosemary (Dulane) Shoen, of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Peter and John Meisenburg.

Rose Mary Heinze-Haskell, 85, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on March 16, 2019, at home.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory.

Rose was born on November 1, 1933, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred and Adeline (Waters) Birch. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. In 1952, she married Frank C. Heinze. He preceded her in death. She later married Richard C. Haskell in 1978, and he preceded her in death.

She worked for Dubuque Stamping Company, John Deere and Answer Iowa. She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Youth Bowling League, United States Bowling Congress and was inducted into the DWBA Hall of Fame in 2007.

Rose enjoyed traveling, spending time on the river and singing karaoke with her friends. She was also on many bowling leagues throughout her life.

Rose is survived by her children, Frank (Annie) Heinze, of Dubuque, Deborah (Richard) Smith, of Cedar Falls, John (Jeannie) Heinze, of Dubuque, Trish Julson, of Dubuque, Rick (Sharon) Haskell, of Dubuque, Patti (Joe Weber) Sarazin, of Dubuque and her sister Shirley Stecklein, of Platteville, Wis. Rose has 18 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her beloved dog "Eddie Haskell".

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter in infancy, and a brother Tom Birch.
