June 23, 1914Terryville, June 23 - David Haskell, 39, died at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury Sunday night. He was taken to the hospital immediately after serious injuries recieved at the fire in the Perkins place on February 9, and had been there since that time.
Haskell, though not a member of the local Fire Department had relieved a fireman at the pump near the wall of the burning building, when the chimney fell on him, breaking his leg twice and severely injuring him otherwise. He was attended immediately by Drs Richard J. Lawton and Harold B. Woodward, who were at the scene of the fire, and taken to his home, a short distance away, and as soon as possible, was taken to St. Mary's Hospital. He was given as much relief as possible and it was at first thought that amputation of his leg would be necessary. After he had been at the hospital a few days, an operation was performed in hope of saving his leg. Since that time he had become weaker and little encouragement was given as to his recovery.
Haskell was born March 4, 1875, he had been a resident of this place for the past 12 years and was extremely popular. For 10 years he was a member of Company D., C.N.G., in which he was promoted to the office of First Sergeant two years ago. He was a member of Pequabuck Lodge of Odd Fellows.
