March 4, 1994Elmer D. Haskell, 90, of 120 Sykes St., died Thursday at the Groton Nursing Facility after a short illness.
Mr. Haskell was a native of Alabama, N.Y, and lived in Batavia before moving to Groton in 1932. He moved to Dryden in 1959 and was one of the first residents at the Groton Nursing Home in 1983.
He was employed as a machinist with Smith Corona in Groton and Cortland for more than 30 years before he retired in 1967. He was also employed with Groton Central School as a groundskeeper at Ross Field for many year
His wife, Pauline, died in 1958.Surviving are two sons, William E. of Groton and Robert C. of Baldwinsville; two daughters, Evelyn E. Lavoie and Edwina F. Thomas both of Pawtucket, R.I.; a brother, Kenneth of Batavia; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

February 17, 1986PAWTUCKET - Marion E. Jarvis, 74, of 75 East Ave., died Saturday at the Elmwood Health Center, Providence. She was the wife of the late LeGrand Jarvis.
Born in Geneseo, N.Y., a daughter of the late Lueman and Ethel (Minor) Barnes, she resided in Pawtucket for four years and had previously lived on Long Island, N.Y.
She leaves two sons, Robert Haskell of Baldwinsville, N. Y., and William Haskell of Groton, N. Y.; two daughters, Evelyn Lavoie and Edwina Thomas, both of Pawtucket; a stepdaughter, Louise Scola of Long Island; two sisters, Bernice Hensel of Batavia, N.Y., and Frances Harrington of Ithaca, N. Y.; 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

October 27, 2020Robert C. Haskell, better known as Bob, died, with family by his side on Friday, October 23, 2020. The son of Elmer Haskell and Marion Barnes, Bob was born in Batavia, NY, on April 5, 1929.
Bob moved to Groton, NY, at a young age and graduated from Groton Central School where he first became involved in his future career of journalism. During his senior year, he was elected the school's governor, president of the Student Council and vice-president of the Honor Society. He also served as editor-in-chief of The Retrospect, the school yearbook. Robert was elected class vice-president during his junior and senior years. As a freshman, he helped found Gamma Nu Sigma, which published the school newspaper. Bob served as manager of the basketball, baseball and soccer teams during his high school days. He was chosen as an alternate to the American Legion Boys' State. Bob worked part-time as a "printer's devil" after school hours and on Saturdays at the Journal & Courier weekly newspaper in Groton.
Robert went on to study at Syracuse University. He had earned enough money working at the Journal & Courier to be able to pay the tuition for his first semester by himself, something he was always proud of. Robert washed dishes and waited on tables at the Iota Alpha Phi sorority house to earn his meals during his four years at the university. Robert also worked for the Smith-Corona typewriter manufacturing plant in Groton during the summers. He graduated with a dual major in journalism and political science.
Over the years Robert was the editor for the Groton Journal & Courier; the Waverly Sun; The Baldwinsville Messenger, the Homer Independent and the Rochester Times Union. He retired, as chief copy editor, after working for 40 years for the Syracuse Herald-Journal and the Herald-American.
Robert had a wonderful 66 years with his wife, Marjorie Nancy Haskell, prior to her death in September 2019. Over their time together, they traveled to all 50 states and got the opportunity to visit England, Wales and Scotland, something they thought they'd never do.
Bob was a member of the Baldwinsville Kiwanis Club and served on the Village of Baldwinsville Planning Board. He served as president of the Baldwinsville Chapter, American Field Service. He also served as a trustee of the Riverview Cemetery Association of Baldwinsville. He was a lifetime member of the Syracuse Press Club. Bob was a member of the First Universalist Church in Central Square, where he served as vice president, president, newsletter editor as well as the leader of a video discussion group. Bob moved from Baldwinsville to the Hearth at Greenpoint in Liverpool three years ago. He always said how lucky he was to be living there.
Robert was predeceased by his siblings, Evelyn Lavoie, Edwina Thomas, and William Haskell.
He is survived by his children, Robert (Melanie), Zionsville, IN; David (Linda Ryan), Baldwinsville; Kathy Patenaude (Dennis), Halfmoon, NY; and Joan, Anchorage, AK as well as his grandchildren, Tim Haskell, Ian Wright, Daniel Wright and Benjamin Wright.
Due to current COVID restrictions, a celebration of Robert's life will be held at a later time.

September 26, 2019Marjorie "Nancy" Haskell, 88, died on Tuesday at Iroquois Nursing Home.
She was born in Elizabethtown, NY and lived in the Baldwinsville area for most of her life.
Nancy was a Medical Assistant for a pediatrician's office in Baldwinsville for many years. She loved reading which led her to work at the Baldwinsville Library after retirement. Nancy enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidering, and playing scrabble. She loved playing the piano and singing.
Nancy is predeceased by her sister, Jean McCasland.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert C. Haskell; daughters, Kathryn (Dennis) Patenaude of Halfmoon, NY and Joan Haskell of Anchorage, AK; sons, Robert (Melanie) Haskell, Jr. of Zionsville, IN and David Haskell of Baldwinsville, NY; grandchildren, Timothy Haskell and Ian, Daniel and Benjamin Wright; sisters, Margaret Schockner of Big Flats, NY, Naomi Markle of Jacksonville, FL, and Billie Ann Wilson of San Diego, CA; brother, Charles Lobdell of New Port Richey, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Groton High School and the State University College of Agriculture and Technology at Morrisville. He retired in 1984 after 34 years with Smith-Corona, Cortland. He was a member of Stonehedge Golf Course, Sons of the American Legion, War Dads of the Groton Legion and St. Anthony's Church.
Survivors: His wife, the former Mary Sullivan; two sons, Patrick and William, both of Groton; a sister, Edwina Thomas of Groton; a brother, Robert of Baldwinsville.

GROTON - Mary E. Sullivan Haskell, 73, of 168 Cayuga St., Groton, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, surrounded by her loving family. Born November 1, 1932 in Genoa, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Barry Sullivan.
Having been a resident of Groton since 1956, she had been employed at Smith Corona for 14 years and later provided childcare for many families in Groton for over 37 years. For all of the children she provided daycare for, her guidance, support and love provided them a solid foundation from which they developed into outstanding adults.
She was a faithful and active communicant at St. Anthony's Church in Groton for over 50 years as well as a volunteer at the Groton Nursing Home, Groton Food Pantry and enjoyed her membership in the Forty Nightly Club. She was also a great cook and baker of which many people enjoyed.
She is survived by her sons, William T. (Angel) Haskell of Genoa and Patrick J. (Charlene) Haskell of Groton; her granddaughter, Alison; her grandson, Dylan; and her sister, Rita (William) Berich of Groton; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, William E. in 1999; and a brother, Thomas Sullivan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 17th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church in Groton with Reverend Scott Kubinski as Celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday morning, 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Zirbel Funeral Home, 115 Williams St., Groton. Memorial Contributions in Mary's memory may be made to the Groton Ambulance Fund.

March 3, 1989NORTH ATTLEBORO - Paul R. Lavoie, 57, of 18 Poppasquash Road, a dispatch supervisor for many years at Crosby Valve and Gauge, Wrentham, died Thursday at home. He was the husband of Nancy (Ficco) Lavoie.
Born in Pawtucket, March 1, 1932, he was the son the late Arsene and Aurore (Chandonnaite) Lavoie. He had lived in North Attleboro most of his life. Mr. Lavoie was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis and was a "Friend" of LaSalette Shrine, Attleboro, for many years. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Thomas Lavoie of Providence, Frederick Battersby of Rutland and John Battersby of Easton; two daughters, Kathleen Ramundo of Dumont, N.J., and Teri Lavoie of Providence; two sisters, Jacqueline Barnett of Coventry,R.I., and Theresa Orlinski of Pawtucket; a brother, Roland Laovie in Maine; and two grandchildren.

Barbara Z. Holt, 80, of Utica, and a summer resident of 3rd Lake, passed away Monday, August 28, 2006, at Martin Luther Home with her loving family at her side.
Barbara was born on August 29, 1925 in Utica, the daughter of Burton and Maude Walters Zoller. She was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On December 1, 1944, Barbara married Robert D. Holt in New York City.
Barbara was employed as a secretary at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, retiring several years ago. She was a member of Historic Old St. John's Church and the Guild of St. Johns.
Surviving are her beloved husband, Robert, and constant companion, "Kix"; two daughters, Donna Williams and her husband, Frank, of Utica, Mary Holt of Old Forge; two sons, Robert Holt and his wife, Marie, of New Hampshire, James Holt and his wife, Chris, of Inlet; nine grandchildren, Robert, Jr., Lisa, Meghan, Lauren and Courtney Holt, and Kyle, Kristen, Ryan and Kimberly Williams. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty Phiffenberger of Ohio, and Mary Holt of New Hartford; and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara was predeceased by a half-sister, Marion Delmont and her husband, Al; brothers-in-law, Frank and Martin Holt, and Ed Phiffenberger; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Powers, Jane Murphy and Gladys McKay and their spouses.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 9:00 a.m. from Surridge & Roberts Funeral Homes, 470 French Rd., Utica, and 9:30 a.m. from Historic Old St. John's Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Remembrances in Barbara's name may be made to the Food Pantry of Historic Old St. John's Church. Robert D. Holt, 81, of Utica/Old Forge/Port Orange, FL, passed away Monday, April 30, 2007, in Port Orange, Florida, with his loving family by his side.
He was born January 20, 1926, in Utica, the son of James H. and Alice Redmond Holt.
Bob graduated from UFA and was a WWII Navy veteran. On December 1, 1944, he married Barbara Zoller in New York City. She passed away on August 28, 2006.
Bob was a retired employee of Chicago Pneumatic. Later he was associated with the real estate office of Harold and Frances Williams and Doyle Hardware. Bob was a member of Historic Old St. John's Church and the New Hartford American Legion Post #1376. He and his wife Barbara loved the Adirondacks and were summer residents over 35 years.
Surviving are his special canine companion, "Kix"; his children, Donna Williams and her husband, Frank, Utica, Mary Holt, Old Forge, Robert J. Holt and his wife, Marie, New Hampshire, and James Holt and his wife, Chris, Inlet; nine grandchildren, Lisa Rodimak, Robert M. Holt, Megan Holt, Kyle Williams, Kristin Williams, Ryan Williams, Kimberly Devins, Courtney Holt and Lauren Holt; great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Reardon, Jessica Reardon, Kristofer Williams, Tyler Williams, Bianca Devins, Olivia Devins; one sister, Betty Phiffenberger, Ohio; sister-in-law, Mary Holt, New Hartford; and several special nieces and nephews. March 20, 2008Esther I. Peyton, 91, 61239-2 C.R. 21, Goshen, died of congestive heart failure Wednesday at 3:15 a.m. in the emergency room of Goshen General Hospital.
She was born in Norway, N.Y., Oct. 8, 1916, to Arthur W. and Lutie Rachel (Gould) Barker. She came to this area in 2001 from Lorraine, N.Y.
She was a homemaker and a nurse's aid at Herkimer Memorial Hospital in New York. She also worked at Borden's, New Port, N.Y., and Munger's Department Store, Herkimer, N.Y. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, ceramics, cooking, and especially baking pies.
She married Charles E. Thomas, Oct. 18, 1939, at Norway Baptist Church, Norway, N.Y. He died Feb. 4, 1949. At the home of Rev. Hutchinson, Bellville, N.Y., she married Albert W. Peyton Jr., Dec. 18, 1965. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are her daughter, Sharon (John S.) Flansburg, Goshen; son, Dale C. (Virginia) Thomas, Cleveland, Ga.; stepdaughter-in-law, Jane Peyton, Pulski, N.Y.; stepson, Gary Peyton, Arizona; stepdaughter, Becky (George) Spaziani, Black River, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Michael Candela, Joyce Candela, Lisa Candela, Deborah (James) Jacquays, Melissa Candela, Jeffrey (Beth) Thomas, John (Rebecca) Thomas, and Barbara Van Buren; 19 great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and 9 stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Clausen; and a grandson, Jeffrey T. Candela, who died in 2007.

Betty Lutie Clausen, 82, of 4003 William Flynn Highway in Mercer Township died at 8:23 p.m. Friday at her home. Born in Norway, N.Y., Jan. 14, 1922, she was the daughter of Arthur and Lutie Rachel Gould Barker.
Her husband, Carl Martin Clausen Jr., whom she married June 8, 1946, died Nov. 9, 2000
Surviving are two sons, Carl M. "Corky" Clausen of Palm Bay, Fla., and James Arthur Clausen of Shorewood, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Lutie Clausen Weidenhof of Slippery Rock; and a sister, Esther Peyton of Goshen, Ind. Nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
CLAUSEN - Friends of Betty Lutie Clausen, who died Friday, March 26, 2004, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. T.D. Stewart, a retired Slippery Rock pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Harmony Cemetery, Harrisville.
