March 1, 1918Corfu � March 1 � George William Haskell, son of former supervisor Elmer Haskell, died yesterday at the home of his parents a mile west of Corfu. He had been in ill health since last November and six weeks ago he suffered a shock of paralysis.
Mr. Haskell was born in the town of Alabama on October 29, 1890. On May 2, 1916, he married Miss Elizabeth Harris of Corfu.
Besides his wife and his parents he leaves an infant daughter; a brother, Harold Haskell, who resides at home, and a sister, Mrs. Edward Higgins of Batavia.

Mrs. Sliker was born June 20, 1894, in Syracuse, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Greiner Harris. She was the wife of the late Edward Sliker.

Mrs. Colby was born at Corfu Oct. 4, 1893, a daughter of the late Alfred and Anna Cox Bartlett. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Rebekah Lodge, the Ladies Auxiliary of Community Post, V.F.W., and the Past Nobles Grands Club.
Surviving Mrs. Colby, besides her husband, are two daughters, Mrs. Alton A. Beideck and Mrs. Lawrence W. Mr. Beideck was born June 10, 1921. in Buffalo, a son of the late Warren and Clara Colby Beideck. He was a retired employee of Conrail in Buffalo. He was a member of the Corfu IOOF Lodge No. 634, a member and elder of the Corfu United Presbyterian Church, and the United Transportation Union.

She was born in Pembroke on Dec. 30, 1894, a daughter of the late Elmer and Martha Currie Haskell. She lived in this area for almost all her life. She was the wife of Edward Nelson Chittenden, who died in 1972, and Charles Higgins, who died in 1924.
Mrs. Chittenden is survived by three sons, Elmer Higgins of Corfu, Edward Higgins of Easr Pembroke and Myron Chittenden of Corfu, ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren.

February 1, 1924Corfu, Feb. 1.- C. Edward Higgins, aged 29 years, who lived on a small farm west of Corfu owned by his father-in-law, Elmer Haskell, took his life yesterday afternoon, about 5 :US o'clock, by shooting himself through the heart with a shotgun. He and his brother, Roy Rossman, who Iives in the east rooms of Orner Griswold's house on West Main street, went hunting yesterday afternoon and, coming home, Mr. Higgins went into the house and spoke to his 21year old son Elmer and his wife. He then went out to the barn. In A few minutes a shot was heard. Lottie McCowen, who lives on the larger Haskell farm adjoining and who helps Mrs. Higgins, found the body on the main floor of the barn. Dr. Pomery was called. Death had been instantaneous.
Mr. Higgins was born in Le Roy, June 23, 1895. In January, 1918, he married Miss Emily Haskell of Corfu. They lived in Batavia before coming to Corfu.
His mother, Mrs. Roy Rossman of Batavia, and a sister, Mrs. Donald T. Van De Vort of Caledonia, survive him, besides his wife and son Elmer.

May 31, 1988Corfu Elmer C. Higgins, 67, of West Genesee Road died at 6 p.m., Sunday (May 29, 1988) in Genesee Memorial Hospital, Batavia, where he had been a patient since April 14.
A son of Edward C. and Emily J. Haskell Higgins, he was born in Batavia May 21, 1921. He was a retired miner from National Gypsum Co. of Clarence Center. Mr. Higgins was a member of the Cathie-Wild Post 9000 VFW, the Corfu United Methodist Church, and was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Swimline Higgins; two sons, Douglas C. of Plattsburg and Charles E. of New Jersey; a daughter, Nancy of Florida; eight grandchildren; a half-brother, Myron Chittenden of Corfu.
Mr. Higgins was the father of the late Robert C. Higgins and brother of the late Edward Higgins.

November 8, 1972Corfu - Edward N. Chittenden, 79, of 919 Genesee Rd., was pronounced dead on arrival at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 7, 1972) at St. Jerome Hospital in Batavia where he was brought by ambulance. Death was attributed to apparent coronary thrombosis.
Mr. Chittenden was born in the town of Bennington on Dec. 11, 1893. For the past 44 years he has operated his farm at his residence. Mr. Chittenden was a member of the Alden Lodge 594 F&A.M. and the Corfu Presbyterian Church. .
Surviving are his wife, Emily G. Maskell Higgins Chittenden; a son Myron G. Chittenden; two stepsons. Elmer and Edward Higgins, all of Corfu; a sister Kathrine Abramowicz or BUffalo: five grandchildren; six step grandchildren, and two step great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Benjamin, Fred and Floyd Chittenden.

Myron was born on October 8, 1928, in Byron, a son of the late Edward and Emily Haskell Chittenden. He was the husband of the late Elaine Schmidt Chittenden and father of the late Donald M. and Jill (Bower) Chittenden.
Myron, along with his late wife Elaine, ran the family business, Chittenden Farm Produce of Corfu. He also started Myron Chittenden and Sons Roofing in 1968. Myron's favorite pastimes were playing cards, especially euchre, and jigsaw puzzles.
Surviving are his children, Chris Chittenden (Marcy Johnson), Betty Chittenden Lord, Frank (Sue) Chittenden and Emily (John) Koch; eight grandchildren, Edward (Shelly) Chittenden, Jessica (Jeff) Rhodes, Jason (Elizabeth) Lord, Chase Lord, Zachary (Sarah) Chittenden, Cody Chittenden, Wyatt Chittenden and Brian Koch; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He married Martha Jane Payne in April 1947. While serving the Army Air Corp.in World War II he was stationed in Okinawa. He later retired after 39 years of service with the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Martha Jane, two daughters; Gail Gravitt and Cheryl Brown, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

March 25, 2006NORTH CHILI -- Mrs. Edythe M. Poerschke, 87, of West Wood Commons, formerly of Indian Falls, a former elections inspector, died Thursday (March 23, 2006) at Monroe Community Hospital.
She was born in the town of Alabama May 27, 1918, a daughter of the late Elmer and Mabel Haskell Passmore. Mrs. Poerschke was a longtime member of the Indian Falls United Methodist Church, joining in August 1933. She was a member of the Friendship Class since 1940, a member of the United Methodist Women for more than 50 years and a member of RSVP since 1989.
She began as an elections inspector in 1960 and was an active volunteer at the former Genesee Memorial Hospital (UMMC) Snack Shop, donating more than 5,000 hours through 1999.
She was wife of the late Edward Poerschke and sister of the late Geraldine Hake. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy (Gary) Hamilton of Batavia/Florida and Janice Hines of Rochester; a son, Roger (Marilyn) Poerschke of Arkansas; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Malcolm Hake; three sisters-in-law, Delores (Henry) Brunea, Leona Glidden and Ida Sumeriski; and several nieces and nephews.

May 11, 1987INDIAN FALLS � Edward R. Poerschke, 71, of 7922 Allegany Rd., was pronounced dead on arrival at 10:02 p.m. Saturday (May 9, 1987) at Genesee Memorial Hospital, Batavia.
Born in North Tonawanda on Oct. 20, 1915, he was a son of Rudolph A. and Agnes Wilke Poerschke. He was a machinist at Primas Mold in Buffalo and was a member of the Indian Falls United Methodist Church. Mr. Poerschke served for 12 years as a Town of Pembroke councilman.
Survivors include his wife, Edythe Passmore Poerschke; two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Nancy) Hamilton of Indian Falls and Mrs. Charles (Janice) Hines of North Chili; a son, Roger of Springdale, Ark.; a brother, Paul of Buffalo; four sisters, Mrs. Leona Glidden, Mrs. Clara Freck and Mrs. Ida Sumeriski, all of Florida, and Mrs. Henry (Dolores) Brunea) of Alabama and seven grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Haskell Hilchey; a son, Kenneth Hilchey; a daughter, Marilyn Hilchey; five brothers and sisters; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
