July 13, 1887Sudden Death
On last Friday morning, Alonzo Haskell, a young married man aged about 30, who was residing in a part of ex-Commissioner James A. Elder's residence, a short distance west of Dana, came to town and spent the forenoon. He was in as good health as usual, but on his return home, he suddenly took down with congestion of the stomach and died in less than an hour. He was married less than a year ago to an estimable lady, with whom he had lived pleasantly, and happily.
The young wife is nearly distracted over her sad and unexpected bereavement. The deceased was a son of Marcus Haskell, now of Kansas, but a former resident of this county. His mother had been here several weeks on a visit, and had intended to start for her western home in a few days.
Young Haskell was a moral and upright citizen, being a member of the M.E. Church, and a good Christian gentleman in every particular. He had many warm friends and no enemies. Everybody loved and respected him. He was a model young man and a friend to everyone. In his death the wife loses a noble companion, and society a good citizen.
