Helen Elizabeth Freiberg, 80, of North Platte passed away Feb. 8, 2009, after a courageous fight with cancer.

Helen, born to Ralph and Dorothy Robinson, loving wife of Jack for 62 years, mother to Susan Vander Linden (Jim), Chuck (Pam) and Tom (1957-1987), was known for her incredible love of family, friends and music.

She will be missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her, because, to know her, was to love her. Music and church were a big part of her life. She belonged to the First Presbyterian Church, sang in and directed its choir and played in and directed the bell choir. She will forever be known for, and loved by, her Ring Rong's youth bell choir. She sang in the Heartland Singers, Monday Musical, played piano for and sang in the Frontier Review and Community Theater. She was a Job's Daughter queen, achieved the Woman's of Achievement Award in 1987 and Jack and Helen's beautiful gardens, won a Yard of the Year Award, gardening was her passion. Helen worked for Odegard's Gift Shop, Fort Cody and recently ran her own home canning and pie business, Helen's Pantry. Helen also taught piano for 20 years. Her students were her "kids" and she loved them like her own.

She is also survived by her brother, Jim Robinson (Brenda); four grandchildren, Marissa, Charlie, Ross and Jack; three great-grandchildren, Anna, Isaac and Owen; niece, Geri Stroh; and other extended family members and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Ralph Robinson; a son, Thomas; and a sister, Ruth Robinson.


Jack Edward Freiberg

Jack Edward Freiberg, 96, of Spooner, Wisconsin, passed away on Dec. 22, 2021.

Jack was husband to Helen, son to Charlie and Florence and brother to Jean and Jerry.

He had three kids, Susan (Jim), Chuck (Pam) and Tom, four grandkids, 9 great-grandkids and many nieces and nephews.

Jack was a World War II and Korean veteran and took serving his country very, very seriously. After the Navy, the family lived in North Platte. He worked for Sears, as a fireman, an electrician and an EMT instructor. He ran Freiberg Electric until he retired. He was an active member in the Boy Scouts, earning both an Eagle and Silver Beaver award. He was the commander of the American Legion and arranged for Edward Newman to come and speak. He was an Optimist, pyrotechnician at the fairgrounds and a rodeo EMT. Jack moved in with his daughter, Susan, after his wife, Helen, passed away. They moved to Wisconsin in 2018. Jack was living in a nursing home near his family where he was very content. Susan and Chuck served Tom and Jerry Christmas Punch at the nursing home Christmas party. Jack was bedridden with pneumonia but got his Tom and Jerry. When we kissed him goodbye, he was sipping it. He passed away peacefully about 15 minutes later.

HADDAM --- Vivian I. Kolars, 83, Haddam, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at a Belleville care center.

She was born Aug. 20, 1918, in Minden, Neb., to Charles E. and Rose Nelson Partridge. She graduated from high school in Tucson, Ariz., and graduated from Bethany College in Lindsborg. She lived in the Haddam community for many years. She taught music and language arts in Haddam area schools more than 31 years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Haddam.

She married Ed Kolars in 1942. He died March 6, 1988.

Survivors include a son, David Kolars, DeKalb, Ill.; a sister, Winnifred Trusky, Tucson, Ariz.; and a grandson.

KEARNEY �  Jane E. Olson, 94, of Minden died Sunday, July 3, 2016, at CHI Good Samaritan in Kearney.

She was born July 12, 1921 in Minden to Vern and Emma (Jensen) Partridge.

She grew up in the Minden area and graduated from Minden High School.

On Aug. 25, 1944, she married Vaughn M. Olson and they made their home in Minden. To this union were born three daughters, Cynthia Lee, Gretchen Jo and Patricia Ann.

Jane was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Women's Circle in Minden. She served as the church organist for many years and was the accompanist for the Men's Chorus. She played for many weddings, funerals and other special occasions over the years.

Jane was a member and past president of the Minden Garden Club, and member of the Women's Auxiliary, Bridge Club and PEO in Minden. Jane was also the co-owner of Vaughn's Men's Shop in Minden for many years.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Ed Hollinger Kearney, Gretchen and Barry Ballou of Hastings, and Patricia and Kenneth Stauss of Lincoln; six grandchildren and spouses, Brad and Janel Hollinger, Brent and Shelly Hollinger, Andi Jo and Charlie Melton, Amy and Jeremy Loch, Casey and Lauren Ballou, and Jeffery and Joslynne Stauss; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister, Patricia Zieg Horn of Long Beach California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vaughn.


Vaughn Mays Olson

Minden resident, 85 MINDEN - Vaughn M. Olson, 85, of Minden died Friday, March 9, 2007, at the Kearney County Health Services Long Term Care Unit in Minden.

He was born March 3, 1922, in Kearney County to Andrew and Fern (Danielsen) Olson. On Aug. 25, 1944, he married Jane Partridge.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Cynthia Hollinger of Elwood, Gretchen Ballou of Hastings and Patricia Stauss of Daykin; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include his sons-in-law, Ed Hollinger of Elwood, Barry Ballou of Hastings and Ken Stauss of Daykin.

He grew up in the Minden area and graduated from Minden High School in 1939. He proudly served his country during World War II as a glider pilot with the 436th Troop Carrier Group. After serving in the military, he was employed at his father's business, Olson Brothers Implement. He and his brother, Lathan, purchased the International Harvester business in 1945 and operated it until 1966. After the sale of the implement business, he purchased a clothing store in Minden and named it Vaughn's Men's Shop. He and his wife operated the clothing store until their retirement in 1983. He was active in the community. He sang in the Men's Chorus, was a volunteer firefighter for many years and was a member of Minden American Legion Post 94 and the Masonic Lodge in Minden. He was a member of Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden and sang in the church choir. He worked diligently to establish the Minden Golf Course. He loved to golf, fish and hunt with his family and friends. He had a tremendous sense of humor and enjoyed playing the occasional practical joke, which always brought humor to his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lathan.

Ravenna resident, 85 RAVENNA - Evelyn (Partridge) Taylor, 85, of Ravenna died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Ravenna Good Samaritan Center.

She was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Howard County to Magellard and Myrtle (Fred) Reimers. On Dec. 31, 1945, she married James Partridge. He died in 1964. In March 1971, she married Harold Taylor. He died in 1971.

Survivors include her son, Mike Partridge and his wife, Halli, of Juniata; daughters, Jackie Morman and her husband, Tom, of Mason City, Judy Crum and her husband, Donnie, of Shelton, Susie Kempt of Litchfield and Deb Partridge, Cheryl True and her husband, Doug, Shelley Earhart and Rhonda McMillen, all of Ravenna; 20 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one brother and two great-grandchildren.


Gladys G. Wood

Gladys G. Partridge, 80, of Wood River died Saturday evening in a Grand Island hospital after a two-month illness.

Mrs. Partridge was born Feb. 7, 1898, in Juniata to Russell and Jennie Finley Wood. She was educated in Juniata and Kenesaw schools. She taught school for 10 years.

On Aug. 11, 1927, she married Theodore Partridge in Smithfield. The couple lived in Minden for a few years before moving to Wood River in 1932, where they farmed. Mr. Partridge died in 1976.

She was a member of the Methodist Church in Wood River.

Survivors include a son, Larry of Wood River, and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a half-brother.

WOOD RIVER �  Larry D. Partridge, 77, of Wood River died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, at Good Samaritan Society Wood River.

Mr. Partridge was born April 2, 1938, in Kearney the son of Theodore and Gladys (Wood) Partridge. He grew up in Wood River, graduating from Wood River High School in 1956. Larry then attended trade school and also was a member of the United States Army Reserves.

Larry was united in marriage to Dorothy Hill on Sept. 24, 1960, in Nashau, Iowa at Little Brown Church in the Vale. The couple made their home in Wood River where Larry owned and operated L & D Urethane Systems Inc. He also spent a lot of his time at he and his wife's diner in Wood River, Dorothy's Cafe.

Larry was a member of First United Methodist Church in Wood River, Elk's Club, Eagles and Saddle Club. He enjoyed carving wood figurines and time spent with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Wood River, son, Don D. and wife, Susan, of Wahoo; granddaughters, Shelby and Madison Partridge of Wahoo and grandsons, Brock and Luke Partridge of Wahoo.

Joanne P. Watts - wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, genealogist, volunteer and friend - passed on August 12, 2020, in McMinnville, OR, at the age of 89.

Joanne was the only child of John and Alice (Howe) Partridge, born April 14, 1931, in Minden, NE. Joanne and Glen A. Watts were married October 14, 1949, in Nampa, ID. Joanne became a farm wife and mother of three children, Clifford, Kathleen and Melvin (who died at the age of two from cystic fibrosis).

After farming for many years in the Caldwell, ID, area, Joanne and family moved to McMinnville, OR, in 1965, where she continued as a farm wife and business partner. In 1972, they started Watts Plow Co. in McMinnville, building and selling plows that Glen had patented. The manufacturing process was moved to Idaho under the name Watts Manufacturing Co. Glen and Joanne were married for 68 years, with Glen passing in January 2018.

Joanne always loved people and felt drawn to a life of service, beginning in Girl Scouts as a young girl. She was also active in 4-H, church groups and Soroptimist. She was the family genealogist and helped countless others to trace their roots. As a charter member of the Yamhill Co. Genealogical Society (1980) and a dedicated member of the Yamhill County Historical Society and Yamhill Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, she held a number of offices and shared her love of history with many. Joanne always had a smile for old friends and newcomers alike.
Joanne left her mark on the world, evidenced in the wealth of knowledge she imparted on others, in the donation of her organs for research, and in the laughter and joyful communion of family and friends.

Survivors include son Cliff and wife Pam (McMinnville, OR), daughter Kathi Pilcher and husband Bob (Cripple Creek, CO), grandchildren Janelle Hizzey, Stephanie Ellison, Curtis Pilcher and Mia Zetter, and eight great grandchildren.


Glen Armon Watts

McMinnville - Glen A. Watts - husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, farmer, inventor, manufacturer, volunteer - passed on Thursday, January 25, 2018, in McMinnville, Oregon, at the age of 90.

Glen was born June 19, 1927, in Middleton, Idaho, to Earl and Edith Watts, and was the youngest of four children, Lela, Otha, and Erlene, all who have preceded him in death.

Glen and Joanne Partridge were married on October 14, 1949, in Nampa, Idaho, and were married for 68 years. Glen and Joanne had three children, Cliff, Kathi and Melvin (who died at the age of two from cystic fibrosis).

Survivors include wife Joanne, son Cliff and wife Pam (McMinnville), daughter Kathi Pilcher and husband Bob (Cripple Creek, Colorado), grandchildren Janelle Hizzey, Stephanie Ellison, Curtis Pilcher and Mia Zetter. Glen is the great grandfather of Tiffany Underwood, Nathaniel Ellison, Isla Hizzey, Mara Hizzey, Taylor Pilcher, Gavin Shaw, Marley Zetter, and Cole Zetter.

Leona M. Johnson was born Nov. 27, 1911, in Albany. She moved to Portland from Kansas in 1945. She was a waitress.

Survivors include her daughter, Willa F. Ballard; son, Gary L. Partridge; four grandchildren.; and 12 great-grandchildren.


Morton H. Ballard

A funeral for Morton H. Ballard of Vancouver, Wash., will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, Vancouver. He died of a heart attack Sunday in a Vancouver hospital. He was 62.

Mr. Ballard was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on March 15, 1928, and had lived in Vancouver since 1972. He was a retired member of the Teamsters Union. Mr. Ballard served in the Navy during World War II.

Surviving Mr. Ballard are his wife, Willa of Vancouver; sons, Tom and Joseph, both of Portland; daughters, Annette Stamm and Kathy, both of Portland, Patty Graham of Lake Oswego and Colleen Hotchkiss of Iowa; brother, Charles of Fairfax, Iowa; and eight grandchildren.

Gary L. Partridge passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2020.

Gary was born March 11, 1937 in Minden, Neb.

After his father died, Gary came to Oregon by train with his older sister when he was 5 to join their mother who had obtained a job in Portland. Gary grew up in Northeast Portland and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1955. He served in the Air Force Reserve and had the opportunity to spend a short time in France and Germany of which he shared his many adventures. Upon return from Europe, he began his career at Container Corporation of America in North Portland, where he would retire from in 1999.

Gary met his wife Mary Muscatel at the Paragon Dance Club. They were married Oct. 31, 1965 and spent 46 years together.

Together they raised their family of four, Kathy Frieze (Grissom), Guy Frieze, Chris Partridge and Cindy Partridge (Qadri).

Gary loved being a husband and father. He played in the yard with the kids after work, would take the family to Lucia Falls on hot summer days and coached many seasons of Little League. In retirement, Gary and Mary enjoyed spending time in the Olympic Peninsula. He also played volleyball regularly and golfed with his long-time friends. Gary loved his 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He played with them as he did his kids, especially ping-pong and loved to share their photos with friends at every chance.


Dr. Robert Westscott Frelick

Robert W. "Dr. Bob" Frelick, M.D., FACP, died September 1, 2016 at the age of 96.

He received his medical degree as a Captain in the U.S. Army from Yale University in 1944 and devoted his life to providing medical care to his community. Dr. Frelick served in the expansion and improvement of cancer care and treatment in Delaware and throughout the country. He played a key role in the establishment of the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center.

Dr. Frelick was in private practice from 1950-82 with an office in Deerhurst and is still remembered for making house calls. He served in Wilmington as the Director of Nuclear Medicine (1952-70) and as a consultant in medical oncology in hospitals in Delaware and New Jersey. Into his 90's Dr. Bob continued to provide medical advice and assistance to family and friends, volunteered at the Claymont Clinic, and participated in grand rounds and medical meetings at Christiana Hospital and the Helen Graham Center.

From 1982-87, he was at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) where he was program director of the nation-wide Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC). He represented NCI as a member of the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. When he left NCI, he became Director of Chronic Diseases for the State of Delaware and medical director of the South Jersey Regional Cancer Center. He also served as a surveyor for the American College of Surgeons and traveled the country evaluating cancer programs at community hospitals.

He was a lecturer, assistant professor, and honorary clinical professor at the University of Delaware, Temple University, and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He published hundreds of papers over many years in a variety of professional journals. For several years, he contributed a column on health issues to the News Journal.

He was an active participant in numerous professional groups: including the American Medical Assn. (AMA), Medical Society of Delaware (president 1980-81), American Society of Clinical Oncology, and Association of Community Cancer Centers (president 1979-80, and Board of Trustees 1974-82), and the American School Health Association. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (governor for Delaware from 1975-80). He served as a volunteer with CARE Medico in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1978 and later served on the CARE Executive Committee 1986-91. He also volunteered to provide medical assistance to earthquake victims in Honduras.

Besides his years of work in the field of medicine, Dr. Frelick served in a volunteer capacity with many national, state, and community organizations. He was active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church (deacon 1996-98). The Delmarva Boy Scout Council named him Citizen of the Year in 1981. He and his wife Jane sponsored an Afghan refugee family in the late 70's and remained close to them to this day. In his 60's, Dr. Bob became a licensed airplane pilot.

Dr Bob is survived by his wife, Jane Owen Hayden, of 72 years, five children (Susan Goekler of Rehoboth, Alcy Frelick of Mclean, VA; Sally O'Byrne of Wilmington; Bill Frelick of Columbia MD, and Scott Frelick of Wilmington); nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

HAYDEN. Frances (Harvey) Hayden, 96, of 541 South St., Suffield, widow of Haskell W. Hayden, died Wednesday (June 1) at home.

Born in Columbia, she lived in Windsor before moving to Suffield 55 years ago. She was an Assistant Treasurer at the former Hi-G Co., Windsor Locks, before retiring, and was a member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational, Suffield, and the AARP.

She leaves a son and his wife, Dr. Harvey W. and Myrtle Hayden of Sharon; a daughter, Alice H. Carter of Guilford; and three grandsons, Richard Carter, Daniel Carter, and Robert Carter.


Myrtle Maddox

SHARON - Myrtle Maddox Hayden, 87, of Cornwall Bridge Road, died May 21, 2013 at Sharon Hospital. She was the loving wife of Harvey W. Haden for 48 years.

Myrtle was born Feb. 5, 1926 in Bethlehem, Conn., the daughter of the late Albert and Gladys New Maddox. She had been living here since 1965, and has been a member of the Sharon Women's Club and the Lions Club and was an active member of the Sharon Congregational Church.

She also was a longtime member and served as chaplain of the Taghhannuck Grange No. 100. She enjoyed playing music and was passionate in playing the violin and fiddle. For many years she played the fiddle and violin in her band, Country Spice.

She also enjoyed playing folk music for several nursing homes in the area.

Besides her husband Harvey, Myrtle is survived by two sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Evelyn and several nephews.


Arthur Francis Carter

Arthur F. Carter a life time resident of Guilford passed away Tuesday, December 8th at the age of 79.

Born in Torrington CT on August 4th, 1936 to Richard Carter of Guilford and Claira Gross Carter of Madison.

He Is Survived by sons Richard, Daniel (Sue), and Robert and grandchildren Diana, Hayden and Marley. Formally Married to Alice Hayden of Suffield now residing in Madison.

Mr. Carter attained Rank of Captain in the Airforce JAG unit, and practiced law in Guilford on Whitfield St. He was a member and Past master of St. Albans # 38 AF&AM Lodge. He was the founding President and longtime member of Guilford Sportsman Club. Before 1980 was a member of North Guilford Fire Department. A man of the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing hunting, and bicycle racing.
