Born in Doris, California in 1915, Helen moved to Eugene when she was 9 years old and spent the balance of her long life there. She loved Eugene. Helen held a life-long interest in nature and spent many of her younger years vacations riding horseback and camping on the Skyline Trail in the mountains of Oregon.
She was an avid follower of the Oregon Ducks in all sports but mostly the football team and women's basketball team. Sunday afternoons would find her gathered at her sister-in-law's home with friends to watch the Duck's football game on TV. In middle age, she was a member of a volleyball team and later went on to play in a bowling league. Her special passion for many years was photography. She received her first Pentax in the early 50's and continued with her hobby well into her 70's.
Helen always loved to travel and after her husband Chick retired, they often toured the US and Canada in their motorhome. Their favorite place was Death Valley. In her later years, Helen joined the Obsidian Club and continued to travel throughout the western US states and Canadian provinces. At the age of 79, Helen realized a life-long dream and travelled through France and Italy.
Helen was always interested in current events throughout the world and looked forward to her morning paper to keep up with developments. She was deeply patriotic to the USA but still took time to write to her congressman if she felt she needed to voice her opinion.
Helen's greatest love was her family. Her unconditional love extended from her husband on down to her children, grandchildren and, finally, to her special love for her great-grandchildren.
