July 1, 1926 - November 12, 2017Our dad was taken suddenly from his earthly home on November 12, 2017. He is finally reunited with the love of his life, his wife, Betty Haskell in their forever heavenly home. No doubt she is probably asking him "What took you so long Harry?"
Dad was born on the family farm on July 1st, 1926 in Chadron, Nebraska to Ray and Leona Haskell. Growing up on a farm during The Great Depression allowed our dad to become a "Jack of all trades and a master of none" kind of man. He could do almost anything when it came to home repairs, auto repairs, plumbing and roofing. He taught us kids to do so many things which we will be forever grateful.
Dad was a veteran of WWII. He proudly served in the Navy on the USS Oneida. He considered it an honor to serve his country. The war stories he told would always bring tears to his eyes when remembering events that he, along with other crewmen encountered during their tour of duty. He truly was a part of "The Greatest Generation"!
After dad married our mom, Betty Jenson in 1950, they migrated from Colorado to Santa Barbara, with a few short stops in between. First in Salt Lake City, Utah, then in Redondo Beach, California and finally to Santa Barbara, where they remained for the next 61 years. He was employed by Hugh's Aircraft for a few years before relocating to Santa Barbara in 1956. He then went to work for General Motors for several years. After a large company lay off, he was employed at Hydranautics Corporation in Goleta, later moving on to retire from Astro Research in Carpinteria. But, retirement didn't last too long, as he bought a roofing company in Santa Barbara, which he and our mom and brother operated for another 8 years before finally hanging up his hat for good. But retirement didn't keep him down, because a few years later he, our mom and our brother built a log home in Gardnerville, Nevada. He was so proud of that beautiful home.
Dad loved animals, and animals loved him! He enjoyed spending time with all of our four legged friends, especially the horses. Dad also spent countless hours in his shop making furniture for his home, repairing something that needed fixing or working on motors. In his later years, he and our sister teamed up to create beautiful lodge pole pine furniture. Those beds were truly a "wow" factor! He had an incredible garden every summer which yielded fresh fruits and vegetables. It kept our mom busy in the kitchen canning these garden treasures. Every summer our family looked forward to camping, water skiing, and of course, Disneyland! We've seen so much of this beautiful country because of our incredible camping vacations! We have so many fond memories of growing up in the Haskell household. He was a funny, funny man. And he has also left us with so many funny stories, jokes and sayings that we will not forget.
We will miss this amazing man. He was blessed with 91 years on this earth, but we were the fortunate ones to have him as our dad and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his dear wife of 66 years, Betty Haskell and a beautiful granddaughter, Miranda Yoder.
He is survived by two sons, Lynn Haskell (Dian) and Stan Haskell (Mendy) and two daughters, Karen Haskell and Cheryl Haskell Smith (Charles). Five grandsons, Jason Haskell, Cameron Haskell (Andrea), Wesley Haskell, Blake Yoder and Evan Yoder and one sister, Mary Jenson of Peoria, Arizona and several nieces and nephews.

January 18, 2016Betty went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 7, 2016. She passed peacefully with her family by her side. Betty, 85, was born on July 30, 1930 in Ioka, Utah, to William and Hazel Jenson. She was the youngest of eight children.
Betty spent her young years on the Jenson family farm in Ioka, later moving to Myton, Utah. After graduating from high school, she attended Quish's Beauty School in Salt Lake City, where she became a beautician. Not long after graduating beauty school, she met the love of her life, Harry Haskell and they were married in 1950. They moved to Redondo Beach, California, in 1951. After a few years, they relocated to Santa Barbara. They loved it so much they decided to stay and raise their children in this beautiful city by the ocean!
Betty loved spending time with her family. Her husband and her four children were her greatest joy. She loved playing tricks and being just plain silly. She had such a caring heart and loved helping others. Anyone who knew Betty, knew this to be true. Teaching children was her gift. She was a teacher with Child Evangelism Fellowship and taught Good News Clubs in her home every week. She would have as many as 40 children sitting in her living room every week hearing Bible stories and learning Bible memory verses. She made it fun! She also taught Sunday school every Sunday morning. She loved going on camping trips with her family every summer, baking yummy desserts, cooking amazing meals, sewing outfits for her daughters, as well as crafting and being involved in church activities. She loved her animals and never let a stray pass through her door without giving it a forever home! She touched MANY hearts and lives. Her kindness and beautiful smile will always remain in our memories.
Betty is survived by her husband Harry of 65 years, two sons, Lynn Haskell (Dian), Stan Haskell (Mendy), two daughters Karen Haskell and Cheryl Haskell Smith (Charles). Betty will also be missed by five grandsons, Jason Haskell, Cameron Haskell (Andrea), Wesley Haskell, Blake Yoder and Evan Yoder.
