Door County Advocate
November 25, 2017Eunice M. Graf was called home to be with the Lord and reunited with her husband, Robert, on Monday morning, November 20, 2017 at Anna's Healthcare CBRF in Sturgeon Bay as her son, Bill, prayed the Rosary with her. Eunice found comfort in praying the Rosary throughout her life.
Eunice was a lifelong resident of Sturgeon Bay. She was born May 27, 1922, the daughter of Ralph Noble Haskell and Rose Alice (Gerondale) Haskell. She attended Sunny Point School in Egg Harbor until third grade, then Corpus Christi Grade School in Sturgeon Bay until sixth grade, and completed her intermediate education at Holy Guardian Angels School (later St. Joseph School) in Sturgeon Bay. Eunice graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1939.
She was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Joseph Graf on June 20, 1942 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. They were blessed with over 51 years of life together. Bob preceded Eunice in death on December 1, 1993.
Eunice was in ways a generation ahead of her time, as she balanced both her family and a career spanning 45 years at Peterson Builders Inc. Eunice was the first female employee of PBI, having been hired at age 17 by Mrs. Peterson to assist with payroll, operating the switchboard, and many other administrative tasks. Eunice returned to work as each of her children reached school age, and retired in 1984 as a Material Control Clerk.
Eunice would often tell her family that she felt she had no talents or hobbies. Her true talent was reflected in her nurturing way, the generous volunteering of her time, and the sharing of her friendly nature with all.
She had a great love for her Catholic faith and St. Joseph Parish where she was a lifelong member. She enjoyed the fellowship of Christian Mothers and Women of Faith. From 1946 until 2007, she was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary for VFW Post #3088 in Sturgeon Bay, serving throughout the years as Secretary, Treasurer, and President. Eunice was currently a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for VFW Post #8337 in Liberty Grove. She cared for her community through her involvement with "Respite" (hospice care) and Neighbor-to-Neighbor Volunteer Caregivers of Door County from 1984 until 2004. Bob and Eunice also delivered Meals on Wheels. Eunice was a longtime supporter of the Red Cross blood drives, donating over 10.5 gallons until her health prevented her from donating more.
Eunice cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family. She and Bob hosted countless family get-togethers, and invented the infamous "Graf Family Get-Together" where there was laughter, drinks, and more Nesco roasters of food than most people have ever seen together in one place.
Eunice's love will live on in the hearts of her two sons and three daughters, Bill (Mary Ann) Graf, Sue (Ron) Le Sech, Diane Kittinger, all of Sturgeon Bay, Robert A. (Linda) Graf of Milton, and Michele (Kevin) Dolle of Pentwater, MI; thirteen grandchildren, Amy (Greg) Young, Beth (Scott) Rehman, and Terri (Joe) Somers, Lori Wery, Lisa Conlon, and Ronald Le Sech, Bradley, Brian (Jill) and Brett Kittinger, and Jamie (Eric) Buesing, Lindsey (Pete) Deol and Allison Graf, and Evan (Jenny) Burnside; twelve great-grandchildren, Sam and Ellen Somers, Jackson and Austin Wery, Jordan, Jared, and Joshua Conlon, Lucas and Maya Kittinger, Caleb and Abigail Buesing, and Haleena Deol; beloved sister, Patricia Swagel of Sturgeon Bay; sister-in-law, Margaret "Peg" Parker of Lockport, IL; nieces and nephews; her St. Joseph Parish family; and many other dear friends.
She was welcomed Home by her parents; husband, Bob; brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Virginia Haskell; and brother-in-law, Anton Swagel.

Volume 10, No. 2, June 2001IN CITIES AS FAR APART AS Bangor, Maine and Houston, Texas, USA the Associated Press's story of a ship's mysterious sinking 25 years ago is still front page news.
On November 9, 1975, the Great Lakes steamer Edmund Fitzgerald sailed from Superior, Wisconsin for Detroit, Michigan carrying 26,116 tons of iron ore. Next day 90mph gusts of wind and 30 foot waves began pounding her. Captain McSorley radioed that his ship suffered topside damage and was listing, but a short time later reported, ''We are holding our own." Then she disappeared from radar and sank: without sending an SOS. There were no survivors.
The families still mourn, and gather annually to commemorate the sinking. A picture accompanying the AP story shows James HASKELL of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, ringing a ship's bell in honour of his brother RUSSELL GEORGE HASKELL, a crew member.

58647. Phillip Dee Haskell Jr.
The Bakersfield Californian (CA)
May 31, 2006Philip Haskell passed away peacefully at home, with his loving family by his side, on May 27, 2006.
Phil was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Philip and Mary Haskell. Phil joined the U.S. Navy in the spring of 1944 and was trained as a Radio Operator. After serving for 2 years, he returned to Milwaukee where he met his one true love, Stephanie Consolazione. In 1948, he came to Bakersfield along with his bride, his parents and siblings. On April 1, 1949, Phil and his dad opened Haskell's Displays. The display business evolved into Haskell's Cabinets & Costumes, both longtime Bakersgfield business institutions that served our community well. His master craftsmanship can be seen in many local buildings, including the Hall of Records and CSUB library.
Phil was a man true to his Catholic faith. He was an active parishioner of St. Francis Church as an usher, a member of the church choir, and the Marion singers. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 977. Phil was an avid puzzle solver; there was never a brainteaser that was too tough for him to solve. He loved his Renegade Football, as he and Stevie were season ticket holders for over 50 years. "Three yards and a cloud of dust" will forever be his favorite play. Phil was involved in many other activities throughout his life, which opened up a broad base of friendships that he cherished deeply.
Phil was the consummate "Family Man". He enjoyed the life he had with Stevie, his "Sweetie Face", and their six children. He was a good provider, especially with the giving of his unconditional love. As the family grew, he was especially proud to be called "Grandpa" and "Papa" by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the pillar of the family and has laid a lasting foundation of love and respect. We will miss him, but his love will carry us through the days and years ahead. It is comforting to us all knowing that he is with his Lord and Savior.
He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Stephanie; daughters, Carolyn and husband, Jeff Hunter, Nicki and husband, Frank Lovejoy; sons, Steven and wife, Brenda, John and Tara, Robert and wife, Robin, Tom and wife, Liz; granddaughters, Michele and husband, Lee Ramos, Jennifer Lovejoy and fiancé, Matt Kelley, Ashley Haskell, Lindsey Haskell, Anna Haskell; grandsons, Patrick and wife, Amy Hoffman, Eric Lovejoy, Zachary Haskell, Nick Haskell, Zachary Glover; great-granddaughters, Kaylee, Gina, Maura, Alyssa, Abigail, Juliana, Mia; sisters, Mary Dale and husband, Ray Haas, Carol and husband, Keith Kincheloe; brother, Dick and wife, Pebble Haskell; and numerous special nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Mary Haskell; brother-in-law, Lewis Howlett; and nephew, Charles Howlett.
