It would be Happy Hour, Happy Appetizer Hour and then a wonderful meal. At Christmas time she made the best Plum Pudding. And then there was HELL, the board game! The Hartford Courant (CT)
February 13, 1996William Franklin Butler, 73, of New Britain, died Saturday. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was most recently employed by the New Britain Housing Authority at the Martin Luther King Apartments.
Mr. Butler leaves two daughters, Dawn Butler of New Britain, and Lisa Trigilio of East Hampton; a brother, Benjamin Butler of Wells, Maine; and a sister, Dixie Hall of Biddiford, Maine.
Find-a-GraveBenjamin C. Butler, 90, a longtime resident of Wells, died peacefully at his home with his family by his side on December 3, 2015.
Benjamin was born in Wareham, Massachusetts on August 26, 1925 the son of Vianna Perry. Ben moved to Wells in 1926 and lived the rest of his life in Kennebunk, Wells and for a short time in Connecticut.
Benjamin was married to his soul mate and devoted wife, Emily E. Butler for 65 years and yearned for the day when he could be reunited with her in heaven. They were united in their faith and were blessed with seven children. Ben was a hard worker and worked for the Kennebunk Water Co., Mapes, Cumberland Farms and Hope Cemetery. He was also a reserve police officer for the Town of Kennebunk and night watchman.
Ben loved doing things for other people. His home was always open and so was his heart. He was always available for his children and was "Bumpa's Taxi" day or night for his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing cards with them. Ben loved watching wrestling and Tom & Jerry Cartoons on television. He had an assortment of crossword books he enjoyed daily. Visiting and talking with people was one of Ben's favorite activities. He would go to the Maine Diner and Congdon's Donut Shop to meet his friends.
Ben and his wife Emily enjoyed fellowship dinners and attending the Wednesday dinners at the Well Congregational Church. He was an Elder and Sunday school teacher at Mt. Zion Church for over 50 years. He and his wife participated in nursing home ministry and provided a food pantry for 23 years which was opened 24 hours a day. Benjamin was not only a true believer; his faith was a guiding light for his life and his relationships with others. He enjoyed sitting on his back deck at his home where he and Emily planted many flower gardens and kept the bird feeders full at all times. Ben is now at rest and will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
Ben is survived by his children, Phyllis Barker, Amber Beal, Debbie Ham, Bonnie Butler, Bennie Butler and Steven Butler; his adopted daughter, Dot Weeks, a missionary in Belize; his 30 plus grandchildren, 60 plus great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins; and dear friends.
Find-a-GraveEmily E. Butler, 89, a longtime resident of Wells, died peacefully on January 10, 2015 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Sanford.
Emily was born on September 22, 1925 in Kennebunkport the daughter of George and Carrie (Paull) Brooks.
Emily was married to her soul mate and devoted husband, Benjamin Butler for 65 years. They were united in their faith and were blessed with seven children. Emily worked at Kesselin Shoe Shop, at Morning Star and provided a home with plenty of love to many children entrusted into her care. She was Nana to everyone who graced her doorway and was a gracious hostess. She made time for her children and they recall many fond memories of Mom being home when they arrived home from school.
Emily and her husband were very active within a Nursing Home Ministry, taught Youth Group, and was a Sunday school teacher. For many years, she had a Bible Study group at her home. She and Ben volunteered at the local food pantry and she possessed a generous heart for those less fortunate. Mrs. Butler read her Bible every day for inspiration and maintained a prayer list for many who needed comfort, "a touch from God" or needed to be valued as a person; no matter the circumstances of their life's journey.
She and Ben enjoyed fellowship dinners and attended the Wednesday dinners at the Wells Congregational Church where Emily could visit with her friends. Mrs. Butler enjoyed going to the beach and her hands were never idle; she made beautiful doilies and was a great cook. While sitting on the back deck of her house, she had a bird's eye view of her many flower gardens and she kept the bird feeders full at all times. It was the simple things in life that made her aware of God's precious gifts; family, fellowship, a home with children's laughter and being a part of the Mt. Zion Church for over 50 years.
Mrs. Butler was a true matriarch of her family and she wrote daily words of inspiration and messages from God in her journals. They have now become cherished readings and Light for the days ahead. She will be dearly missed by her family, her church family and has now entered into eternal rest.
She is survived by her husband Benjamin Butler; her children, Phyllis Barker, Amber Beal, Debbie Ham, Bonnie Butler, Bennie Butler and Steven Butler; her adopted daughter, Dot Weeks, a missionary in Belize; her sister, Elanor Leach; 30 grandchildren, 60 great-great grandchildren and 5 generations of family members who loved her; and many close friends.
She was predeceased by her son, Phil Lord; and by her three brothers, Robey, Frank, and Herb Brooks; and by her grandson, Christapher.
