Arthur G. Haskell, 86, of 24 Sunset St. died Wednesday in a local nursing home. He was a fitter at Berkshire Gas Co. for 22 years, and retired in 1969. He was born in Vergennes, Vt., and attended schools in Worthington and Belchertown. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and served with the Seabees (Naval Construction Battalions) in Alaska. He was a member of the Pilgrim Memorial Church.

Born in Agawam on March 2, 1907, daughter of Arthur and Luella Cooley Pomeroy, she attended schools in Worthington. Mrs. Haskell was a member of the Pilgrim Memorial Church in Pittsfield.

Her husband, Arthur G. Haskell, whom she married Oct. 31, 1945, died Aug. 10, 1994.
She leaves two sisters, Helen Connor and Margaret A. Tetreault, both of Springfield.

Blynn Davidson Merrill, 72, died July 10 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon.

He was born in New Gloucester, Maine, a son of Henry T. Merrill and Ina C. Haskell. He attended Shaker Society School at Sabbathday Lake in New Gloucester, and graduated from Edward Little High School in Auburn, Maine, in 1946. He later graduated from the University of Maine with a bachelor's degree in forestry.

He served in the merchant marine and worked as a forester for the state of Maine for 10 years.

He was a licensed forester and surveyor in New Hampshire, Vermont and Florida. He was also licensed as a septic designer in New Hampshire. Mr. Merrill was employed in this area by Wagner Woodlands, Davis and Symonds Lumber Co. and was a partner in Moseley-Merrill Realty of Hanover before founding Granite Northland Associates in Canaan in 1971, a company he owned until 1995. From 1971 to 1995 he worked to bring many new businesses to the Upper Valley area. He enjoyed working in his professions and collecting tools.

He was a member of the Cumberland Masonic Lodge in New Gloucester for more than 40 years. He was also a member of the Social Summit Masonic Lodge in Canaan, the National Realtor Association, the Canaan Lions Club and the Society of American Foresters. He had also served on the Canaan Planning Board.

Mr. Merrill was a member of the United Methodist Church, Canaan.

Surviving are his wife, Frieda of Canaan; three daughters, Carlisse Clough of Springfield, Doreen Wyman of Grafton and Elaine White of Strafford; four stepdaughters, Susan Huppe of Auburn, Maine, and Bonnie Lumb, Mona Vachon and Sharon Bell, all of Lewiston, Maine; one stepson, Gregg Fickett of Little Rock, Ark.; one sister, Elizabeth Berry of New Gloucester, Maine; two brothers, True of Newport and Henry of Phoenix; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

WATERVILLE -- Isabelle R. (Rodgers) Wheeler, 100, former longtime Manchester, N.H., resident, died Nov. 17, 2010, at Lakewood Continuing Care Center.

The daughter of the late James and Catherine (Sharkey) Rodgers, she was born in Manchester on April 11, 1910. She lived in Manchester until 1999, when she began sharing time with her two children. She had worked in the offices of Drs. Manning and Stoev, and for the Boys Club of America -Manchester, N.H. She was a longtime member of Scottish Lodge, Bon Accord Lodge 39. Mrs. Wheeler was married to the late J. Roy Wheeler, a lifetime Manchester resident. She had the longest membership (85 years) in Faith Baptist Church, formerly Merrimack Baptist Church, in Manchester.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, J. Roy Wheeler; three brothers, John, James and Robert Rodgers; two sisters, Kathleen Rodgers and Agnes Langley; and a son-in-law, Robert Osborn.

She is survived by a daughter, Janice Osborn, of Oakland; a son, David Wheeler, and his wife, Betty Jean, of Amissville, Va.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

MERRIMACK -- Kenneth B. Wheeler, 102, died Aug. 31, 2014, at Community Hospice House in Merrimack.

He was born on Oct. 15, 1911, the son of the late Bert and Elizabeth (Day) Wheeler.

Kenneth was a 1932 graduate of Manchester Central High School. He worked many years as a plumber and steamfitter for Eckhardt & Johnson and was a proud member of United Association Local Union 131. He was blessed by worshipping at the Gospel Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of 70 years, Alice (Perry) Wheeler, Kenneth is survived by his six children, his daughter Donna of Manchester; his son Kenneth Jr. and daughter-in-law Sylvia of Manchester; his daughter Susan and son-in-law Bruce Prior of Rochester; his son Stephan and daughter-in-law Annette of Honolulu; his son Brian of Kuna, Idaho; his daughter Becky and son-in-law William Bartlett of Nazareth, Pa. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Wheeler was born on November 20, 1924, in Manchester, NH, the daughter of the late Arthur E. Perry and Mabel E. (Runnells) Perry.

She was a lifelong resident of Manchester and a graduate of Manchester High School Central.Alice was a caring homemaker and devoted to her family. In later years, she loved traveling with her husband of 70 years, Kenneth, throughout the country. Alice and Kenneth were members of Gospel Baptist Church and loved the time spent in fellowship with other members.

A 13 year old boy, shot in the head after he allegedly tried to run over twp Lexington policemen, died yesterday at Massachusetts General.

The boy, Lorin Haskell, a state ward living at 19 Marlboro Ave., Methuen, reportably took off early Tuesday in his gaurdian;s car and subsequently was chased by Burlington Police into Lexington.

Lexington Patrolmen Donald W. Birch and George Anderson said they each fired a shot at the car's tires when the driver nearly ran them down at a roadbolck at Loewll and Woburn sts. in Lexington.

One of the shots struck the boy in the head.

Leona Catherine Hughes, 84, passed away peacefully Friday, July 9, 2021 at The Alice Center surrounded by family.

Leona was born May 26, 1937 in Malone, NY to the late Ralph Dashnaw and Catherine Garrow. She attended Franklin Academy for schooling. She worked as a Home Health Aide for North Country Home Service in Malone as well as B.J. Manufacturing and Chemawa Indian School. Leona's spent 22 years with the love of her life, Harold Brand. Mrs. Hughes enjoyed family, friends, and gardening.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her seven sons, John Hughes of Malone, Craig Brand of Malone and his wife, Kay, David Brand of Ocala, Florida, Darrell Brand of Elmira, NY, Walter Brand of Malone, Scott Brand of South Salem, Oregon, and Barry Brand of Cape Coral, Florida and his wife, Michelle; three daughters, Deborah Cook of Malone, Marilyn Nottingham of Silverton, Oregan and her husband Casey, and Kelli LaFlesh of Burke, NY and her husband Jody; three brothers, Robert, Howard, and Bruce Dashnaw; a sister, Nancy Hampson; fourteen grandchildren, Todd and Amanda Hughes, Terri and Cathy Hosler, Kayleigh Parizo, Hanna White, David Brand II, Natalie Brand, Nicole Demarse, Dakota Brand, Sequoia Brand, Justin Brand, Alexander LaFlesh, and Nicholas LaFlesh; and 12 great grandchildren.

PLATTSBURGH - Mrs. Geraldine A. Dashnaw, 92, of Plattsburgh, N.Y. passed away Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015 at the UVM Health Network CVPH Campus with her family by her side.

She was born in Lyon Mountain, N.Y. on August 25, 1922, the daughter of Leonard and Delima (Secore) Collins.

Geraldine was known for her sense of humor and making people laugh. In her spare time she enjoyed her soap operas and lottery tickets. Geraldine's greatest love was for her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Ernest Dashnaw; her daughter-in-law, Laurie Dashnaw; her sisters, Anna, Violet; her brothers, Bernie, Bob, David and Maynard.

Geraldine is survived by her four sons, Ernest Dashaw Jr. and his wife Sandy, Leonard Dashnaw and his wife Rose, Rex Dashnaw and his wife Lynn, and Richard Dashnaw; two daughters, Wanda Whitney and her husband Malcolm, Debra Garsow and her husband Joseph; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brothers, Ronald Collins and his wife Gladys, Donald Collins; a sister, Sylvia Durkee.
