Tacoma News Tribune

Services for Theodore Baird Haskell will be held Fraday...

57633. Theodore B. Haskell Jr.

The Seattle Times (WA)
October 13, 2013

Ted B. HASKELL, Jr. 7/16/1933 - 10/3/2013 Born in Tacoma to Evangaline Pederson and Theodore B. Haskell Sr.

Beginning his journey in Tacoma, in the third grade his family moved to Midland to live on a five and a half acre farm, raising his own horses, chickens, geese, rabbits, pigs and cows. In 1947, Ted and his family moved to Spokane, where he learned what the ethics of working were all about. Graduating in 1955 from North Central High School, he jumped right into the working world.

His biggest accomplishment was working at The Eureka Company, where he oversaw a five state area and three million dollars in annual sales. He devoted 27 years of his life to The Eureka Company, and enjoyed every moment of it.

Ted had a little brother Rodney J. Haskell, who he took under his wing after their parents' passing, to care for him, and show him the ropes about life. A short time later he ran into a woman named Shirley J. Anderson, little did he know that this woman was the love of his life, and the woman of his dreams. In 1958, they said their vows and the same year had a bundle of joy on the way. On October 14, 1958 their first and only child Ted B. Haskell III was born.

Ted's passion for boats and cars, especially his Austin Healey and his Corvette, were something him and his son Ted III could share. Ted and his son were closer than close, they were best friends, almost brothers in a sense. His son Ted III looked up to his father as a hero, someone he wanted to grow up to be just like, and many would say he did, even calling him his "mini me." Ted, Shirley and Ted III moved to Twin Lakes in 1966 to have a fresh start. Then in 1994 Ted's world was going to change even more. On April 14, 1994 his only grandchild was born, Miranda M. Haskell, his little nickname for her was Andie. Anyone who knew Ted knew he was a rock, a tiger per say on the outside, but had such a kind, and gentle heart. Once his granddaughter was born, she just melted his heart right from the start. Always excited to see her and spend as much time together as possible. He always pushed Miranda to be the best person she could be, and no matter what he'd always be proud of her. Unfortunately 2001 brought heart ache onto many, when Shirley lost her battle against lung cancer.

Ted was unsure if he'd ever find someone to love like he did Shirley, which a couple years later he did. He met Carleen Ulland, they shared an undying bond and strong love for one another. Ted lost his battle against lung cancer on October 3, 2013, he fought extremely hard and showed us a new meaning of what it meant to be strong. He was a loving husband, dad and grandfather, and the love he brought to our lives will burn in our hearts forever. As Ted would say "this is just another trip."
