NEW SALEM - Helen (Paige) Worsman, 79, of 51 South Main St., a retired university librarian and former beautician, died yesterday in Wachusett Care Facility, Holden.

She leaves two sons, Roger S. Worsman of New Hartford, Conn., and David W. Worsman of Tewksbury; a daughter, Ann S. Colby of New Salem, with whom she lived; a sister, Lois Dunbar of Phillipston; eight grandchildren; an aunt; and four nieces. She was born in New Salem, daughter of Stanley and Luetta (Meuse) Paige. She was a descendant of William and Sarah (Stevens) Paige, who settled here from Lunenburg in 1750.

Mrs. Worsman graduated from New Salem Academy in 1935 and Doerr Beauty Academy of Springfield in 1938. She was a beautician at Elgie's Beauty Parlor and Betty Smith's Beauty Shop, both in Orange. She later worked in the cafeteria at New Salem Elementary School. After that, she was a librarian at the University of Massachusetts Library in Amherst for 12 years, retiring in 1975.

She was a life member of New Salem Central Congregational Church. She was a member of the Swift River Historical Society and Friends of the New Salem Free Public Library. She was a member of Athena Chapter 25, Order of the Eastern Star, in Orange, and Arcana Chapter 50, OES, in Greenfield. She was a former member of the New Salem Grange.

New Salem, Ma. �  Herbert Stork Worsman, 96, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at his daughter's home, after an illness. He was the husband of the late Edna D. (Freeman) Worsman who died in 2010.

Herbert leaves his daughter, Ann Stork (Worsman) Colby and her husband, George, of New Salem; two sons, Roger Worsman and his wife, Barbara, and David Worsman and his wife, Mary Ann, all of Dennis, mass.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Herbert was born in Lawrence, on January 26, 1917, a son of the late Herbert and Ann (Stork) Worsman. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1935, and from Lowell Tech in 1937. He worked for the former Union Twist Drill Co., in Athol as an estimator for many years. Herbert served in the US army air Corps during World War II as a Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the Athol American Legion Post 102, the Orange Lodge of Masons, the Essex Chapter of Demolay, and the Grace Episcopal Church in Lawrence.

Her husband of 60 years Elbridge B. Dunbar died in 1999. She leaves two daughters Suzanne Hooley and her husband Alan of Phillipston, MA., Kathlyn (Tiffy) McCarthy and her husband Edward of Bucyrus, OH, three grandchildren, Richard Thibeault, Jr., of Phillipston, MA., Christopher Thibeault of Athol, MA., Eric Kajca of Richlands, NC, and six great grandchildren.

PHILLIPSTON - Elbridge B. "Al" Dunbar, 84, of 185 Ward Hill Road, and 8 Estate Lane, Ogunquit, Maine, a longtime toolmaker and civic leader, died Saturday, Nov. 6, at the home of a daughter in Ogunquit after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Lois N. (Paige) Dunbar; two daughters, Suzanne Hooley of Phillipston and Ogunquit, and Kathryn McCarthy of Bucyrus, Ohio; three brothers, Donald Dunbar of St. Petersburg, Fla., Walter Dunbar of Springfield and Arthur Dunbar of Belchertown; a sister, Marion Soltys of Brookfield; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces.

He was born in Ware, son of Frederick G. and Maude E. (Smith) Dunbar, and lived 47 years in New Salem before moving to Phillipston in 1986. He spent winters in St. Petersburg, Fla., and several summers in Ogunquit. He graduated from Ware High School in 1933.

Mr. Dunbar was a toolmaker at Union Twist Drill Division of Litton Industries Inc. in Athol for many years, retiring in 1980. He previously worked on construction of the Windsor Dam when the Quabbin Reservoir was being created during the 1930s. He later worked for his father-in-law, Stanley Paige, at his mill.

While in New Salem, Mr. Dunbar served as cemetery sexton, dog officer, special policeman and town assessor. He served on the New Salem Academy Reunion Committee. He was the scout master of New Salem's first Boy Scout troop, Troop 126.

Mr. Dunbar was a member of Central Congregational Church in New Salem and the New Salem Grange. He was an avid horseback rider, golfer and snowmobiler.

ORANGE- Elizabeth A. (Cadwell) Deegan, 93, of King James Court, East River Street, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 3, 2017 at home with family at her side.

Born in Orange on December 16, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Gladys (Paige) Cadwell and grew up in Orange, attended New Salem Academy and graduated from Orange High School in 1941.

In 1944, Elizabeth married John W. Deegan and they were married 55 years until his death on April 11, 1999.

Elizabeth had worked for Western Union, Erving Paper Mill and was a receptionist for CETA, but taking care of her large family was most important to her. A loving and caring person, Elizabeth's love of nature began as a young child when she spent hours walking in the woods with her father. She continued walking, up to 2 miles daily, well into her 80's. Elizabeth could also do the New York Times crossword puzzles in ink without the need for corrections. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Elizabeth was non-judgmental and enjoyed the diversity of her extended family. She had a keen interest in politics as well as civil rights and social  justice. A  fine seamstress, Elizabeth made many clothes for her family and was skilled at doing needlepoint and embroidery, as well as rug braiding.

Elizabeth will be missed by her 12 children, Dennis Deegan of Demming, NM, Lyn Cadwell and Patricia Althea, both of Northampton, Thomas and Eleanor Deegan of Cambridge, Elizabeth Loving and John Bullock of Shutesbury, Christine and Christopher Cody of Orange, Jane and George Morin of Orange, John Deegan of Lake Arrowhead, CA, Katherine and Gregg Watkavich of Athol, Michael and Julie Deegan of West End, NC, James and Myla Deegan of Long Beach, CA and Matthew Deegan of Orange; 10 grandchildren, Nathan and Sarah Moore of Northampton, Deidre and Mahmood Firouzbakht of Cambridge, Anthony Loving of Shutesbury, Miriam Lord of Orange, Jonathan Deegan of Lake Arrowhead, CA, Mary and Emily Watkavich of Orange, Patrick and Robert Deegan of West End, NC and Jasmine Deegan of Long Beach, CA; 6 great grandchildren, Jacob, Lydia and Aaron Moore, Camron and Neve Deegan, and Kahla Watkavich.

WARWICK- Bayard A. Cadwell, 79, died on Friday, October 15, 2004 at home. He had declining health for the past 16 months and getting 24 hour care at home.

Bayard was born in Orange, MA on October 8, 1925, the son of Robert F. and Gladys (Paige) Cadwell.

He grew up in Orange and served in the 8th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, United States Marines, from 1943 to 1946. He was in battle at Okinawa.
Upon returning from the war, he finished senior year at Orange High School. After graduation he went to work at the former Whit's Diner in Orange center, where he met two important people- Bob Whitney and the future Mrs. Cadwell. Dona, his wife, helped Bayard get a degree in teaching at Fitchburg State Teachers College. Bayard and family moved to Statford, Connecticut, where he taught shop for eighteen years. During the summer, he worked at children's camps.

In 1967, the family started Camp Catamount in Warwick. For eleven years, Bayard took youths on hiking and canoeing trips in New England.

In 1973, Bayard and family moved to Warwick permanently. He taught at Athol and Amherst Public Schools. He retired in 1993. Since then, he has been spending time in Warwick gardening, reading, and building boats.

His wife, Dona Cadwell, predeceased him in 1998.

He is survived by his son Charles and wife Mary Shapiro, and children Molly Cadwell and Anna Cadwell; Daughter Deborah Cadwell; son Robb Cadwell and his wife Sengthian Cadwell and son Bayard; son Jack Cadwell, and wife Karro Frost, and daughters Dana Cadwell Frost, and Amanda Cadwell Frost. He is also survived by three sisters, Barbara Perrault of Wakefield, Elizabeth Deegan of Orange, and Jean Ray of Boise, Idaho.

Mrs. Blanche (Lawer) Haskell, 39, wife of Forrest Haskell, died yesterday morning at the home, 55 Fox street, West Springfield, after a few weeks illness. She was born in Sunderland and had been a resident of West Springfield for the past six years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church.

She leaves besides her husband, one son Donald, at home; her mother, Mrs. Emily Lawer, of West Springfield; three aunts, Mrs. Sadie Parker of Palmer, Mrs. William Wilson of Haydenville, Ct., and Mrs. W. W. Crosier of Holyoke.

WESTMINSTER -- Beth G. (Haskell) Brunell, 87, of 209 South Ashburnham Road, died Sunday, Feb. 24, in the Keystone Center, 44 Keystone Drive, Leominster, after an illness.

She was born in 1914 in New Salem, the daughter of Theodore J. and Bernice (Goddard) Haskell, and had lived in Westminster for nearly 50 years. She graduated from New Salem High School in 1932.

Mrs. Brunell worked as a utility stitcher for 25 years at the former Asher Co., manufacturer of men's and boy's trousers, Fitchburg, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the American Friendship Club in Fitchburg.

She leaves five sons, Robert W. Brunell of Westminster, Alfred I. Brunell Jr., Stephen E. Brunell and Richard S. Brunell, all of Fitchburg, and Sherman J. Brunell of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Sarah M. Nicholson of Fitchburg; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Alfred I. Brunell Sr., died on Dec. 26, 1981.

FITCHBURG -- Richard S. Brunell, 77, of Fitchburg, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Health Alliance - Leominster Hospital.

Mr. Brunell was born in Ware, January 31, 1936, a son of Alfred I. and Beth G. (Haskell) Brunell and resided most of his life in the Fitchburg and Westminster areas. He attended the Fitchburg Schools.

During the Korean Conflict he served his country in the United States Army.

He leaves his wife of 13 years, Elizabeth J. (Enwright) Brunell; a stepson, William S. Gilman of Dracut, two stepdaughters, Winifred Rivard of Winchendon, Ellen Bizotto of Westminster; four brothers, Robert Brunell of Westminster, Alfred I. Jr., Steven E. Brunell both of Fitchburg, John Brunell of Orlando, FL; a sister, Sarah Nicholson of Lowell; his former wife, Janice Brunell of Fitchburg, several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

For over thirty years, Mr. Brunell worked in the pallet department of Premier Box Company in Fitchburg. Prior to that he worked as a long distance driver and also as a deliveryman and machine repairman for the former Cott Beverage Company.

He was an active member of St. Joseph's Church in Fitchburg. He served many years as an Altar Server and as a Eucharistic Minster both at regularly scheduled Masses and by bringing the Eucharist to patients at Burbank and Leominster Hospitals. He was a former member of the Serra Club of North Worcester County.

Mr. Brunell was a longtime member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and this month was scheduled to receive the 2013 "Top Hat" Award. This presentation is given to an outstanding Vincentian in recognition of his dedication to the mission of the St. Vincent de Paul organization.

Mr. Brunell was a Fourth Degree member to the Fitchburg Council # 99 Knights of Columbus in Fitchburg.

He enjoyed working with stained glass, gardening and was an accomplished woodworker. He was known for his generosity and for his never ending willingness to assist others.

Burial was made in Hillcrest cemetery in Lawrenceville.

Mr. VonDell died Saturday (May 22,1962) at the Massena Memorial Hospital.

Surviving are his wife, Irene; three brothers, Charles of Lawrenceville; Jess of Hamburg, N.Y.; and Alfred of Lake Placid; a sister, Mrs. Seward (Linda) Lashomb on Mineville, N.Y.; a step son, Donald Price of Madrid; a step daughter, Mrs. Stanley (Eileen) Euto of Massena; a granddaughter; a great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by two sons, Donald and William; and by a brother, Leon.

Mr. VonDell was born Jan. 13, 1907 in the town of Lawrence, son of Henry and Viola Close onDell.

He first married Alice Murphy who died who died in February 1965.

He was later married to Irene L. Savage Price in Madris on August 8, 1970.

Mr. VonDell worked for the town of Lawrence highway department for 32 years, retiring in 1973.

He was a member of the Nicholville-Lawrence Masonic Lodge 499.

Born in Massena, July 18, 1907, she was the daughter of William J. and Margaret Scott Murphy. She was married to Bernard VonDell in 1927 in St. John's Episcopal Church, Massena. She was a member of the Lawrenceville Fire Department Auzillary.

Besides her husban, she leaves two brothers, Floyd Murphy of Massena and Wilson YHarold Murphy of Ogdensburg; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Myrtle) King of Massena, Mrs. Gerald (Helen) Stitzman of Massena, and Mrs. Ruth Ward of Houston, Tex.; two granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Flora M. Sullivan Baldwin; 87, of 11 Howard St., Massena, were Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home in, Massena with the Rev. M. Miller officiating. Burial was made in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Massena.

Mrs. Baldwin died Friday, July 4, 1980, at the Massena Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since June 29.

Surviving are two sons, Bert, Massena, Donald, Trestin, Calif.; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. A son, Gerald, died in 1937.

She was born in Brushton on Nov. 13. 1892. She attended Brushton schools and married Bert Sullivan on Sept. 4, 1954. He died and she later married Frank Baldwin who died several years ago.

She was a homemaker, was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and the Cretona Chapter OES 516, Massena.

She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Massena.

Dorothy R. Burnett, 90, Church Street, died Monday at Massena Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Burnett was a homemaker.

Born April 7, 1914, in Watertown, a daughter of Henry and Mildred Anthony Jock, she attended schools in Watertown and Helena. She married Raymond W. Burnett on Jan. 28, 1939, at the United Methodist Church, Massena, with the Rev. Barber L. Waters officiating. Mr. Burnett died May 21, 1989.

Mrs. Burnett was a member of the United Methodist Church, where she served as financial secretary and treasurer; a member of United Methodist Women and a trustee of Maple Grove Cemetery Association. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and reading.

Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard and Marlene, Victor and Ella Jane, and Donald, all of North Lawrence; two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara Burnett, North Lawrence, with whom Mrs. Burnett lived, and Carolyn and Gary Jones, Cranford, N.J.; a sister, Helen Roach, Malone; 10 grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Henry and Kenneth Jock, and two sisters, Marion Yaddow and Doris Luther, died before her.

She was a homemaker.

Born May 21, 1916, in Brushton, daughter of Horace and Nelly Haskell Burnett, she married Francis Villnave on June 26, 1941, at St. Lawrence Church, North Lawrence, with the Rev. Ralph A. Hoffman officiating. Mr. Villnave died Dec. 4, 1970.

Mrs. Villnave enjoyed making sugar cookies and driving around the north country.

Surviving are three daughters, Geraldine Wilson and Mrs. Earl (Shirley) Remington, both of Massena, and Irene Treeter, Rochester; two brothers, Floyd Burnett, North Lawrence, and Lawrence Burnett, Ogdensburg; two sisters, Blanche LaLonde, Massena, and Flora Mahagan, Rochester; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Raymond W. Burnett, and three sisters, Mildred LaFrance, Edith Ivy and Hazel Richards, died before her.

Mr. Burnett died Sunday afternoon (Jan. 13, 2008) at the Highland Nursing Home in Massena.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Potter Burnett; four sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Patty Burnett of Massena, Phillip and Joan Burnett of Rensselaer Falls, Keith and Yong Burnett of El Paso, Texas, and Jerry and Tammy Burnett of Brasher Falls; three daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Art McCready of Watertown, Elaine and William Welch of Watertown, and Susan and Jeff White of Fort Jackson; a brother, Lawrence Burnett of Ogdensburg; a sister, Flora Mahagan of Rochester; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Burnett; and five sisters, Mildred LaFrance, Hazel Richards, Edith Ibey, Blanch LaLonde and Bernice Vilnave.

Mr. Burnett was born April 29, 1918 in Moira the son of the late Horace and Nellie Haskel Burnett.

He was joined in marriage to Mary Potter on Feb. 22, 1941.

Mr. Burnett worked as a local mechanic for over 40 years and retired in 1983. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved cars, fishing, whittling and playing cards with his family. He also enjoyed playing the violin and harmonica. He loved baseball and his favorite team was the Atlanta Braves.

BRASHER FALLS - Mary Potter Burnett, 89, formerly of Brasher Falls, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010 surrounded by her family at the Massena Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Lee and Aura Streeter Potter.

She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Patty Burnett of Massena, Phillip and Joan Burnett of Renselear Falls, Keith and Yong Burnett of El Paso, Texas, and Jerry and Tammy Burnett of Brasher Falls; three daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Art McCready of Watertown, Elaine and William Welch of Watertown, and Susan and Jeff White of Fort Jackson; two brothers, Harold Potter of Massena, and Leslie Potter of Florida; a sister, Grace Slate of Potsdam; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Potter; a sister, Margaret Burns; and a grandson, John Burnett.

She was united in marriage to the late Floyd Burnett on Feb. 21, 1941 at Sacred Heart Church in Massena.

Mrs. Burnett was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, gardening, reading and cooking for her family. She also loved playing cards with family and friends. She especially loved her friends at the LBSH senior housing in Brasher Falls. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
