Sun Advocate (Price, UT)
January 15, 2018

PRICE- John Andrew Westenskow, Sr., age 84, passed away January 12, 2018 at the University of Utah Medical Center surrounded by family.

Born July 18, 1933 in Latuda, Utah the only child to Andrew Ledrue and Josephine

Reese Westenskow. John attended Carbon College and was star center for the Eagles Basketball team. After graduating in 1953 he was drafted into the army and served at Fort Ord,

California as a "Remington Raider" (typist/company clerk). After his military service he returned to Price, found and married the love of his life Priscilla Boyack on February 4, 1956. Their marriage was solemnized December 19, 1964 in the Manti Temple.

John and Priscilla moved to Salt Lake City where John graduated from Stevens Henage College in Business Management. After two and a half years they returned to Price and had their first son John Jr. and three years later their second son Frank Drue.

After working for Price City for 5 years John then began his career at Utah Power and Light where he enjoyed reading meters and traveling the area. Always improving himself and learning, he later became a planner and customer service representative, retiring in 1991.

He was an avid fly fisherman and spent every summer in his childhood fishing the Yellowstone River in the Uintas with his father, mother, grandfather, extended family and most on the citizenry of Latuda. A tradition he truly loved and legacy he shared with his sons and grandchildren.

Every weekend during summers later in life, was spent having a wonderful time creating memories with family at the cabin in Scofield, building, boating, and, of course fishing.

Woodworking was his other passion. Not a family member or friend was left without a lovingly handcrafted gift or two. His favorite leisure pastimes were watching ball games (always with the sound off) and watching and re watching old cowboy serials and movies where the hero always wore a white hat, captured the bad guy, got the girl and rode off into the sunset.

Beyond all was his love for his wife and family. In contrast to his towering "5 foot 19 inch" stature and sometimes gruff demeanor he gently and tenderly gathered and doted over his grandchildren and great grandchildren, frequently gathering them around him in his big chair.

Survived by his darling wife of 62 years, Priscilla "Sibby"; his two sons, John Jr. (Sheri), Logan, UT, and Frank (Sylvia Yazzie), Price, UT; grandchildren, Amber (Jason) Pollan, Logan, Jaimi (Brandon) Erwin, Price, Adam (Connie) Westenskow, Woods Cross, and Amy (Jono) Huppi, Salt Lake City, and 5 great grandchildren.
