Nellie M. Miller, 79, of Hope Avenue died Thursday at the home of her son in Onondaga Hill.

A native of Berkshire, Mrs. Miller resided most of her life in the Syracuse area. She was the widow of John Miller. A daughter, Johanna Guckert, also died previously.

Surviving are two sons, John of York, Pa., and Michael of Onondaga Hill; a sister, Clara Shaw of Hemet, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Olive Hutchings Bailey, 69, of 11 East Genesee St., Skaneateles, died Monday in St. Joseph's Hospital after a long illness. Mrs. Bailey was born in Virgil, N.Y. and was a 28 year resident of Skaneateles, formally residing in Skaneateles Falls for 22 years. Mrs. Bailey worked for many years at the Skaneateles High School Cafeteria. She was a past Matron of the Skaneateles Eastern Star Chapter No. 505.

She is survived by her husband, Harry D. Bailey; one daughter, Mrs. Beverly Skinkle of Auburn; three brothers, Alfred M. Hutchings of Cicero, Willard G. Hutchings of Odessa, NY., and Wesley of Millport, NY., two sisters, Mrs. Helen Case of Groton, and Mrs. Clara English of Groton; 3 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

Beverly Ann Skinkle, 67, of 1 Thornton Ave.,Auburn,died Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center.

Born in Syracuse, she was a nurse's aide with the Restmore Home, Auburn, and Home Companion Services, Syracuse. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Auburn.

Survivors: Two daughters, Nancy Vassallo and Donna Pedley, both of Auburn; a son, Harry A. of Florida; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

A prayer service for Oliver P. Kiefer, 88, of Hallandale, Fla., formerly a New Jersey resident, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Rosedale Cemetery, Orange. Arrangements are by the Codey Funeral Home, Orange.

Mr. Kiefer, who died Friday at home, was a service representative with the Public Service Electric & Gas Co. in Newark for 40 years before retiring.

Born in Orange, he lived in Florida for 22 years.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Beverly Short; a son, Robert; a sister, Mrs. Flora Brower, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Welch, Mary Evelyn - Final rites for Mrs. Welch, 73, of the Rosedale district, who died Tuesday in a local hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenlawn Chapel.

She is survived by her husband Carrell Welch; two sons, Everett Welch and John Welch, of Bakersfield; a daughter, Violet White of Bakersfield; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Cairell Welch, 80, Rosedale rancher for almost half a century, who died in his home, Route 4, Box 343, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Greenlawn Chapel with the Reverand John Murdoch officiating.

Interment will be in Union Cemeteryt. Mr. Welch, who was born February 26, 1866, in San Bernardino, was married at the age of 20 to Miss Evelyn Meacham, who preceded him in death by five years.

Mr. Welch is survived by two sons, Everett and John, both of Rosedale district; a daughter, Mrs. Violet White of Bakersfield; a brother, John L., of Chino; two sisters, Mrs. Stella Brentlinger and Mary Reeder both of Los Angeles, and seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, all of Bakersfield.

Mrs. Myrtle Barnes, the woman who was terribly burned near Rowem, about a month ago, while making a camp fire, died last night at her temporary home on Chester avenue from the effects of her injiuries. Mrs. Barnes life was despaied from thr first, and physicians have expressed great surprise that she lingered as long as she did.

Mrs. Barnes was the wife of Johnnie Barnes, and the couple were camping near Rowen when the accident occurred. Mrs. Barnes was frightfully burned about her limbs and body from her dress which caught on fire, and doctors gave her small hope of recovery.

Jesse C. Azbill

Jesse C. Azbill, 63, died yesterday afternoon while working in the orange grove pf an Ivanhoe ranch. He was a native of Phoenix, Arizona, and had been a resident of the Visalia area for 24 years. The youngest son of a family of nine children. His father was better known as "Swamp John" in the region of Phoenix, Arizona.

At the age of 17 Jesse C. Azbell accompanied his mother and brothers and sisters to California where they settled in Kern county, but they have lived in the cicinity of Woodlake for the last 20 years.

In 1904 Azbill married Bertha Jane Mechem, who survives him. They celebrated theor fortieth wedding anniversary last December.

Survivors besides the widow include: a son, Rott A. Azbill, SM 2/c, United State Coast Gaurd; three daughters, Mrs. John R. Maddock, Woodlake; Mrs. Jesse J. Hollis and Mrs. Violet B. Mason, both of Visalia; one brother, William F. Azbill, and a sister, Mrs. Mattie Barnes, both of San Jose. Four grandchildren also survive.


George Gould Hollis

Visalla (Tulare Co.) July 18 - George G. Hollis, 40, holder of decorations from two nations for bravery in the world war, dropped dead in the office of Sequoia Hospital at Woodlake today while waiting an examination. He had lived in the Woodlake district three years.

A native of Kansas, Hollis came to Tulare County seventeen years ago.

He was a sargent in Company E of the 156th Infantry of the 89th Division in the world war. He was awarded the Croix De Guerre and the Distinguished Service Cross for gallantry in avtion.

Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Jessie Hollis; a son, Jack Hollis; his mother Mrs. Belle Hollis, and two sisters, Mrs. Birdie Stokes all of Woodlake, and Mrs. Daisy Snow of Navelencis.

He will be best remembered for the love of family, gardening, golf. He was retired from Aouther california Gas Company, supervisor in 1983 - 42 years with company. He served as U.S. Coast Gaurd in World War II. He was a member of Elks Lodge 1298.

Survivors include his spouse Mildred Larimer, maeeied November 9, 1940; daughters, Pamela Hongola of Petaluma and Candice Kennemer of Visalia; grandchildren, Matt Kennemer, Jaimee Carreras and Brynne Howell; three great-grandchildren

Mildred Alice Azbill passed away on January 2, 2020 in Visalia, 24 days before her 98th birthday.

She was born January 26, 1922 in Bakersfield, CA. to John and Lenora O. Larimer.

Mom married Robert Azbill on November 9, 1940, while a student at COS. Dad passed away in 2002. They shared the fun and hard work of 62 years together.

Mom worked as a secretary for Boy Scouts of America and retired from the County of Tulare Juvenile Probation. She worked a full time job, cooked, cleaned, sewed and raised two children.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, two sisters, Evelyn Donaldson and Frances Huth.

She is survived by her daughters Pam (James) Hongola from Sonora and Candice Kennemer from Visalia. She also leaves three grandchildren Jaimee (Jeffrey) Carreras of New Orleans, Matthew Kennemer of Visalia and Brynne Howell of San Diego as well as four great-grandchildren.

Bertha Esther Patton, 94, of Lodi, died Dec. 20 in a local convalescent hospital. She was born Bertha Dreher on Oct 2, 1906 in Lodi.

Mrs. Patton was a life-long resident of Lodi. Her parents, Carrie and Louis Dreher, who were pioneers, moved to Lodi, from Buffalo, New York in the 1890s. She attended Lincoln School and St. Peter's German School.

She was a housewife and homemaker. She enjoyed being in her yard, playing bingo and cards.
She is survived by her daughter; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wesley Mecham, in 1928; second husband, Francis E. Patton, in 1990; sisters, Clara Leech, Anna Blodgett and Caroline Ehlers; and brothers Louie and Carl Dreher.

Final rites for Edgar M. McAllister, 59, retired oil worker and war veteran, who has lived in Bakersfield for 40 years, will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. with the Eagles lodge officiating in Payne & Sons chapel and graveside services conducted by the United Spanish American War Veterans, General R. Shafter Camp No. 31, in the veterans plot at Union cemetery. McAllister died at his home, Wednesday.

He is survived by his widow, a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Ellison of Los Angeles; a son, Earl McAllister of Orewgon; five brothers, W. L. of Sonomoa, Oscar of Oakland, W. T. of Berkeley, Bearl of El Segundo, and Paul E. of Laton; one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Harris of Oakland, Mrs. Virgie Harris and Mrs. Grace Thurman of Missouri; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel T. McAllister of Missouri.

Mr. McAllister was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and incumbant commander of General Willam R. Shaftrer camp No. 31, United Spanish War Veterans. He served inb Company I, Eleventh U.S. Infantry in Puerto Rico and in Troop D., Fifth U.S. calvary in the Phillipines. He was also a member of the Bakersfield Druids Lodge
