Verna A. Briggs

Mrs. Verna Harroun, Billings, died in a Billings hospital Sunday. She was born Aug. 4, 1914, at Grass Range, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William C. Briggs.

She married James (Pete) Harroun at Wallace, Idaho, Aug. 17, 1935. They lived in Missoula until 1941, then in Great Falls until 1951, when they moved to Billings.

Survivors are the widower; son, William at home; sisters, Mrs. Hazel McCardle, Billings, Mrs. Vernon Thomte, Loma; brother, James Briggs, Great Falls.


Ole LeOtis Larson

Ole Larson, 32, World War II veteran, passed away at his father's farm fourmiles north of Havre shortly after midnight last night. The young man had been ill for several months with a heart condition.

Survivors include Mr. Larson's widow; his father, Ole E. Larson; four brothers, Halmer, Orville, Richard and Robert all of Havre; and four sisters, Mrs. John Landskov, Mrs. Percy Dow, Mrs. Earl Bonderud and Miss Janet Larson, all of Havre.

Mr. Larson was born in Havre, July 25, 1913, and was married to Miss Jean Harroun in April of 1943 at Havre. His mother passed away in 1940. Mr. Larson was a member of the Lutheran church.

He entered the service at Fort Douglas, Utah, Dec. 13, 1941, and served as a staff sergeant in the air corps. He went overseas in January of 1944 and returned in September of 1944, serving in the Italian and North African campaigns. Mr. Larson was discharged Jan. 9, 1946, at Geiger Field, Idaho.

He was a member of the VFW.


55941. George Warren Brown

George Warren "Swede" Brown, 79, Great Falls, a World War II veteran and former shop supervisor for Transystems, died of natural causes Oct. 5, 2003, at Peace Hospice.

Survivors include his wife, Irene D. "Mickey" Brown, Great Falls; a daughter, Jeri Ann Browne, Great Falls; a son, Michael G. Brown, Great Falls; and three grandchildren. The grandchildren are Reanna, Nellie and Celeste Brown. Additional survivors include a son-in-law, Corb Browne; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Brown.

George W. Brown as born Aug. 18, 1924, in Missoula, where he was raised. He married Irene Martin on Aug. 22, 1945.

He served in the Navy during WWII, and later worked for Rice Truck Lines and Transystems.

He was a member of the VFW and the Drum and Bugle Corps.


55946. Robert B. Baird

Robert B. Baird 2d, chief executive of the Polyesther Corporation and a patron of Long Island civic and charitable organizations, died on July 22 while on vacation in Spain. He was 75 and lived in Quogue, N.Y.

The cause was a heart attack, his family said.

Less than three weeks later, on Aug. 9, his wife of five years, Barbara Arnold Baird, 67, died at home, also of a heart attack, the family said.

For more than three decades, Mr. Baird was prominent in civic affairs, serving as a member of the planning board, a village trustee, Fire Commissioner and acting Police Commissioner. He was also on the boards of Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, Southampton Hospital and the Central Suffolk Hospital in Riverhead, and was active with the Southampton Wildfowl Association. He was instrumental in establishing the Quogue Wildlife Refuge Nature Center and was a founder of the South Street Seaport Museum in Manhattan.

Miss Julia M. Sullivan and Edwin R. Saunders were married Wednesday [February 18, 1914] morning in St. Paul's rectory [Norwich, Chenango, NY] by Rev. Edward F. Pendergast. The bridal couple were attended by Miss Lena Bowers and William Hackett. The groom is a son of Harry Saunders. They will reside on Plymouth street.


Charlotte Florence Heffner

Mrs. Charlotte Lamb, 86, of Summit died yesterday at home.

Mrs. Lamb was a life member of the Canoe Brook Country Club and a member of the Friday Service Chapter of Calvary Episcopal Church and the Fortnightly Club, all of Summit.

She also was a member of the San Vicente Golf Club of San Vicente, Calif., and the Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club of Sodus, N.Y.

Born in Collingswood, she lived in Summit for 55 years.

Surviving are two sons, Tony and Christopher N.; a daughter, Mrs. Elisabeth S. Persson; a sister, Mrs. Vivian Ott, and seven grandchildren.

Superior - Helen H. Bailey, 86, of Superior died of natural causes Thursday May 6, at the Mineral County Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth in 1971.

Survivors include a daughter, Sue Campbell, Superior; two sons, Kenneth W. Bailey, Kalispell, and Charles A. Bailey, Columbia Falls; and two grandsons, Dale A. Campbell and David R. Campbell.


Kenneth William Bailey Sr.

Polson - Kenneth W. Bailey, Sr., 64, died at his home in Big Arm Sunday morning. He had ranched in the Post Creek area for several years and owned and operated the Ronan Theatre from 1963 until recently.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, two sons, Kenneth E. Jr., Mesa, Ariz, and Charles of Polson; a daughter, Mrs. Buddy Campbell, Superior; a brother, Earl, of New Berlin, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Cristman of South New Berlin, N.Y. and Mrs. R. E. Norrid of Endecott N.Y. and five grandchildren.

Kalispell - Kenneth W. Bailey Jr., 72, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at the Immanuel Lutheran Home.

He was born in Norwich, N.Y., on May 6, 1932, to Kenneth W. and Helen Hamilton Bailey.

Ken served in the National Gaurd and spent 18 months in Korea in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his sister, Sue Campbell; his brother, Charles Bailey, three nephews and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Julia and Arlene Bailey.


Arlene Mae Fox

Kalispell - Arlene May Fox Bailey worked in Billings as a photo finisher until moving to Libby in 1967, where she worked for Holman Diesel. In 1974 she moved to Kalispell and worked for Alpine Diesel and Zook Brothers Construction Co. She was a member of Women of the Moose and Eagles Auxiliary and enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and flowers.

Mrs. Bailey, 52, died in Kalispell Regional Hospital Saturday morning of cancer.

Born in Billings, a daughter of Alkex anf Freida Fox, she graduated from Billings High School. On June 18, 1985, she marrried Kenneth W. Bailey in Couer d'Alene, Idaho.

Survivors incled her husband; her parentd; two sisters, Beverly Owens of Billings and Pauline Steinmitz of Park City; three nieces and four nephews.

SUPERIOR �  Susanne H. Campbell, 77, of Superior, passed away in the morning of Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, at her home of natural causes, surrounded by her two sons.

Susanne was born the Feb. 8, 1938, in Norwich, New York, to Kenneth and Helen Bailey.

She then moved with her family to Mesa, Arizona, where she went to school and became a member of the school's archery team. After graduating from high school Sue attended college for two years in Tempe.

After college Sue and her family moved to a ranch at Tarkio. Sue found work at the Mineral County Courthouse where she worked for the county for four years. She also worked for the Superior schools and was a kindergarten alternate for a number of years. Susanne found true love with Buddy Campbell and spent 56 years married to each other until death separated them.

After marrying Buddy, they moved to the country and started a mink ranch. During her time on Earth, Sue was a member of the Mineral County Museum, Historical Society and the Superior Garden Club. She entered her farm-grown vegetables and flowers in the local county fair. She took pride in growing and cultivating blue ribbon vegetables, a trait she passed on to her two sons, David and Dale.

On the summer weekends she liked to go to her parents house on Flathead Lake have picnics with brothers, Ken, Charlie and family. She also liked to go fishing and have picnics up the creeks with her family. She loved to pick huckleberries and had an uncanny eye for finding precious stones. Sue was a selfless woman when it came to helping other people out, especially young folks where she would give them homemade cakes and treats.

Sue was preceded in death by her father and mother, Kenneth and Helen Baily; brother Kenneth W. Bailey and her husband Buddy Campbell.

She is survived by her brother Charles Bailey (Linda) of Wickenburg, Arizona; her two sons, David (Diana) and Dale of Superior; nieces, Shelia Bailey of Columbia Falls and Julie Bailey of Boise, Idaho; nephew Chris Bailey of San Diego; grandchildren, Ryann (Cory) Rugg, Racquel (Kyle) Rausch, Brian (Caitlin) Campbell, Dan Campbell, Matt Campbell; eight great-grandchildren.


Buddy E. Campbell

Buddy E. Campbell, 83, of Superior, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2015, at his home of natural causes, surrounded by his loving wife and two sons.

He was born June 22, 1931, in Spencer, Indiana, to Phillip and Mary Elma Campbell.

At the young age of 7, Buddy and his family moved from Indiana to Superior where he graduated from Superior High School and spent most of the remainder of his life.

He attended the University of Montana and studied chemistry. As a student, he was a member of the ROTC Rifle Team achieving a top 10 ranking in the nation for small bore shooting. He received a B.A. in education.

Buddy was a determined young man who valued education, hard work and the great outdoors. In between his studies, he held jobs at Diamond Match Lumber Mill and the United States Forest Service. While employed with the Forest Service, he manned forest fires and the Lookout on Landowner Mountain one summer. As a surveyor drove the very first stake in the Diamond Match Road, now known as Trout Creek Road.

Buddy's unbridled passion and determination to work, lent him to a number of careers; he served in the Air Force in the Korean War achieving 1st Lieutenant. Taught school in Willow Creek, Malta and Superior and worked for the Mineral County Road Department for 20 years becoming the road Forman for many years. He started raising mink in 1965 in Superior, where he developed his own business with his two sons; David and Dale. Retiring 43 years later in 2008.

Buddy took pride in Mineral County and all its beauty had to offer. He valued the well-being of others and combined his knowledge to help those. Buddy enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He married the love of his life Susanne Bailey and has two sons, David and Dale.

Proceed in death by his father Phillip; mother Mary Elma; brother Richard.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Susanne; sons, David (Diana) and Dale of Superior; brother William "Bill" (Catherine) of Stevensville; sister-in-law Beverly (Al) Bellusci of Missoula; nephews, Travis, Phillip and Roger (Lisa) Campbell; niece Susan DeMers; grandchildren, Ryann (Cory) Rugg, Racquel (Kyle) Rausch, Brian (Caitlin) Campbell, Dan Campbell, Matt Campbell and eight great-grandchildren.
