She was the widow of Wellman L. Haskell, who died in 1981.
She and her husband operated a dairy farm here for many years. Mrs. Haskell was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Malcolm Glidden Post, Palermo Senior Citizens and Branch Mills Grange.
She was predeceased by one son, Reginald in 1981.
She is survived by four sons, Clayton, Maurice Sr., Stephen and Francis Haskell, all of Palermo; three daughters, Pearl Hamilton of Hinkley, Rosalie Rood of Albion and Margaret Jones of Unity; two sisters, Esther Moody of Appleton and Christobelle Whitaker of Windsor; 27 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Pearl Maxine Haskell Hamilton, 92, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta from complications from a fall.
She was born in Benton, Maine on January 16, 1926, the eldest daughter of the late Wellman and Lucy Fuller Haskell.
Pearl graduated from Besse High School in Albion, was a member of the Shawmut Chapel, and Branch Mills Grange. She worked for 26 years at the Hinckley post office, twelve of them as postmaster retiring in 1992. Over the years Pearl enjoyed gardening, canning, and pickling. During the summer she liked to travel to the coast with family and friends for lobster dinners. And in recent years she most enjoyed her rides "around the block".
She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Clayton Haskell, Jack Haskell, Joe Haskell, Billy Haskell, and sister Peggy Jones.
She is survived by her sons Sonny Hamilton and wife Jane of Albion, and David Hamilton and his wife Mickey also of Albion; her brother Stephen Haskell and his partner Donna Doolan, and sister Rosalie Rood; grandchildren Rachel Crommett, Matthew Hamilton, Mark Hamilton, Chad Hamilton, Jason Hamilton, Holli Merry and Molli Rainey; 12 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

February 17, 2000Maurice "Jack" Allen Haskell Sr., 70, of Western Ridge Road, died Feb. 14, 2000, at Maine General Medical Center in Waterville.
He was born in Knox, a son of Wellman Lewellyn and Lucy Eunice Fuller Haskell. He attended local schools and graduated from Erskine Academy in South China. Mr. Haskell was a dairy farmer all of his life. He started his own milk transport business when he was only 18 years old. On Nov. 10, 1950, he married Carolyn Jane Reed in Albion. He loved hunting and farming and was still actively working at the time of his death. He loved to go lobstering each summer in Gouldsboro with his friend Art Williams. His wife died in 1985. His companion was Judy Poulin of Fairfield Center.
Surviving are his son, Maurice "Pete" Haskell Jr. of China; two daughters, Beverly Hebert of Wells and Brenda Gerrish of Palermo; three sisters, Pearl Hamilton and Rosalie Rood, both of Albion, and Margaret "Peggy" Jones of Unity; two brothers, Francis "Bill" and Stephen both of Palermo and eight grandchildren.

She was the wife of Maurice A. (Jack) Haskell, Jr., whom she married on Nov. 10, 1950, in Albion.
Mrs. Haskell attended Erskine Academy and had resided in Palermo since 1950, moving there from China.
She is survived by her husband of Palermo; one son, Maurice A. (Pete) Haskell, Jr. of Palermo; two daughters, Mrd Wayne (Beverly) Hebert of North Berwick and Mrs. John (Brenda) Gerrish of China; one half-sister, Mrs. Ruby Smith of Albion; six grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was born in Troy on March 17, 1932, a daughter of the late Clyde E. and Florence E. (Hillman) Folsom. Mrs. Haskell attended school at Erskine Academy.
Besides raising her four children, she was co-owner, with her husband, Joe, at Haskell Poultry Farm. Following Joe's passing in 1981, she continued her hard work ethic at the farm raising 90,000+ broiler chickens for various companies for several years, all from which she received high praises and bonuses. She also worked for Avian Poultry Farm.
Mrs. Haskell was predeceased by her husband of 29 years, Reginald "Joe" Haskell and three sisters, Eileen Folsom, Patricia Wyman and Mary Benoit, as well as three brothers, Leo Folsom, Neil Folsom and Richard Folsom.
She is survived by her long time companion, Raymond Senechal of Waterville; her four children, Diane York and her husband Brian of South China, Deb O'Clair and her husband Walter of Palermo, Doug Haskell and his wife Diane of Palermo and Doreen Haskell and her husband Neil Carmichael of Liberty; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

March 26, 2019PALERMO - Stephen L. Haskell, 85, of Palermo passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019, at Oak Grove Center in Waterville.
He was born in Palermo on April 3, 1933, the son of the late Wellman and Lucy (Fuller) Haskell. Stephen attended Palermo schools and Erskine Academy.
He was a woodcutter, farmer, and an avid draft horse puller. He participated in professional draft horse pulling competitions in New England and Canada for 50 years, winning many blue ribbons and trophies. He enjoyed spending time with his nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandson. In recent years he also enjoyed spending winters in Florida.
He was predeceased by his parents, Wellman and Lucy Haskell; his spouse, Donna Jones Haskell, his siblings, Clayton Haskell, Jack Haskell, Joe Haskell, Bill Haskell, Pearl Hamilton, and Peggy Jones.
Stephen is survived by his companion, Donna Doolan; his children, Susan Cote and her husband, Paul of Waterville, Steve Haskell and his wife, Mary of Palermo, and Shirley Irish of Winslow; and his sister, Rosalie Rood of Albion.

PALERMO -- Beverly W. Haskell, 65, of Palermo, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on Dec. 30, 2003, shortly after her arrival in Florida for her winter stay.She was born on July 13, 1938, in Vassalboro, a daughter of Freelan "Peanut" and Edna (Getchell) Willoughby.
Bev spent many years employed at the Augusta City Police Department, where she worked as a dispatcher until disability forced her to retire. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, doing a variety of things such as going to Florida, playing cards and being with her companion dog, Teddy. She was very active in attending her great grandchildren's activities and will be sadly missed by all because of her kind and loving disposition towards life.She was predeceased by her parents; Freelan passed away in 1970 and Edna in 1992. She was also predeceased by one son, Dwain F. Haskell, who passed away on March 30, 2002.
She is survived by her three children, son Dusty Haskell and his wife, Pam, of Palermo, a daughter, Dawn Haskell of Palermo, and son Dwight Haskell and his wife, Linda, of Liberty. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Jamie Haskell of Palermo, Kristy Millay and her husband, George, of Palermo, Tara Tracey of Liberty and Brandon Haskell and his wife, Allisha, of Palermo; her six great-grandchildren, Tasha and Reggie French of Palermo, Ryan and Kattie Millay of Palermo, Kaleb Dechamps of Liberty and Bret Haskell of Palermo. March 20, 2011UNITY - Our mother, Margaret Haskell Jones, made her journey home to be with her husband and son on Saturday, March 19, 2011, as she passed away at home with her family by her side.
She was born on Dec. 22, 1939, in Unity, the daughter of the late Wellman and Lucy (Fuller) Haskell. She lived her childhood on the family farm in Palermo.Margaret attended elementary school in Palermo and was a 1958 graduate of Erskine Academy.
On June 21, 1958, she married her husband, Paul, and together they raised six wonderful children. They shared 43 hard-working years together until his passing in 2001. They lived in Palermo and Washington before settling in Unity in 1972.
She had been employed for the past 36 years as a cook for MSAD 3. She absolutely loved her job. She was a nanny to most of the students that she fed.
Margaret's door was always open for anyone who needed a place to lay their heads for a night, month or for some, even years.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her son Michael in 2005; and her brothers: Kate, Jack, Joe and Bill Haskell, all of Palermo.

March 14, 1988Windsor � Dorothy A. Haskell, 74, of Windsor Neck Road, died March 12, 1988 at Kennebec Valley Medical Center, Augusta. She was born in Windsor, Dec. 23, 1913, a daughter of Ira and Dora Turner Choate.
Her husband, Sidney Haskell, died in 1972.
Mrs. Haskell attended Windsor schools and was a 1934 graduate of Erskinr Academy, South China. She was a member of the North Windsor Baptist Church. She had been employed at Augusta State Hospital for four years, and later at Wilsons Nursing Home, Cooper Mills.
She is survived by two sons, James Sproul and Carleton Haskell, Sr. both of Windsor; a daughter, Leo (Mildred) Gould of North Whitefield; two brothers, Byron Choate and Donald Choate, both of Windsor; two sisters, Louise Finley of Gardiner and Adeline Brann of Windsor; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

November 19, 1997Catherine Agnes Thompson Haskell, 89, formerly of Greeley Road, died Tuesday at an Augusta hospital.
Born in Albion, she was a daughter of Fred and Ida Trepanier Thompson, and attended local schools. On June 21, 1929, she married Ralph Mott Haskell in Albion. She and her husband lived in Albion and Benton, and for many years operated their own farm on Greeley Road here. Her husband died Jan. 7, 1984.
Surviving are three daughters, Madeline Burns of Clinton, Erline Hendsbee of Chelsea and Darlene Hulett of Windsor; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

July 3, 2018CLINTON - Madeline Evonne (Haskell) Beckwith-Burns, 88, died peacefully, June 30, 2018, at her home in Clinton surrounded by her family and friends. She was born April 12, 1930, in East Benton, the daughter of Ralph M. and Catherine (Thompson) Haskell. She had two sisters, Erline Hendsbee of Randolph, and Darlene Huelett of Windsor.
Known as Maggie to all, her hearty laugh, good nature and sewing ability will be sadly missed.
She in particular loved making quilts and baby blankets. One of her late in life passions was selling her crafts at the many different fairs such as the Clinton Lion's Club-her favorite.A graduate from Lawrence High School in 1948, she went to work for Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Piper in Benton until she was married to Ray Irving Beckwith of Fairfield on April 18, 1953. They had five children: Stanley Beckwith, along with his wife Angie and two children, Shawnna and Erika; Dennise Beckwith; Brenda Beckwith, and her partner, Terry McGuire and four children, Nat, Andrew, Maddie and Cal; Stella Dion and her son Alexander Beckwith; and Bonnie Gardner and her husband, Frank and two children, Megan and Emily. Maggie had numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly and brought her great pride.
Throughout Maggie's life, she was involved with the VFW Post 6924 and was a Maine State President for several years. She also was a Third Selectman for the Town of Benton as well as serving as a cook for Inland Hospital and also as a CNA at several nursing homes. Maggie also ran her own daycare in Fairfield for ten years, a line of work that brought her many smiles!
On March 31, 1984, Maggie married George M. Burns of Fairfield, and they resided in Clinton for 25 years. George died on March 11, 2010.Upon retirement, she resided at Settler's Rest in Zephryhills, Fla. for 12 years, surrounded by many wonderful friends. Maggie became involved with the special church family of the East Benton Congregational where she was baptized on August 20, 2017, by Pastor Daniel McKeen.

February 9, 2020CHELSEA � Erline I. Hendsbee, 87, of Chelsea, died Friday, February 7th, 2020 at her home. She was born in East Benton, on July 14, 1932, the daughter of Ralph and Catherine (Thompson) Haskell. She grew up in East Benton and attended school.
Erline enjoyed spending time with friends and family weather it was visiting at her house or going out to eat. She was a Homemaker and she took pride in caring for her family and including taking in boarders into her home. Erline was a great lover of the Lord. She attended the Kennebec Valley Assembly of God Church.

September 18, 2005CHELSEA -- John Robert Hendsbee, longtime resident of Chelsea, passed on to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.
He was born in Oakland on Jan. 14, 1931, the son of Arthur B. and Mary E. (Wrigley) Hendsbee.
He attended schools in Albion, and after school entered the Army, serving in Europe. In 1951, John married the former Erline Haskell, and they shared 54 years together. John worked for several years, and retired from the Veterans Administration hospital in Togus. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans.
John was a very generous man in many ways. He was always willing to donate or lend a helping hand whenever needed. He enjoyed listening to country fiddle music and spending time with his family. John loved the Lord.
He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Diane Hendsbee; and two brothers, Ted Hendsbee and George Hendsbee Sr.

Wiscasset- Harold M. Dow, 86, of West Alna Road died Friday, November 14, 2014 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.
He was born in Albion on October 27, 1928, a son of Wilbur E. and Beulah (Haskell) Dow.
He attended Albion schools. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 where he obtained the rank of sergeant. He was then assigned to the 434 Construction Engineers and shipped to Korea and worked building roads into the jungle to make it passable for the troops. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars, the United Nations Service Medal and Meritorious Unit Commendation. He was then transferred to the Army Reserve until 1956. On September 7, 1953 he married Gloria L. Harvey and had one daughter, Peggy Lee Dow. He spent most of his life working for different road construction outfits; operating heavy equipment around the State of Maine, then for a few years had his own general contracting business until he went to work for the Town of Wiscasset. He operated heavy equipment and the grader for many years until his retirement in 1993.
He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and loved dogs and cats.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria L. Dow of Wiscasset, one daughter, Peggy Lee Voeth of Arizona, two brothers, Norman Dow of Albion and Earl Dow of Searsport and several nieces and nephews.

ALBION - Carol Laverne Clark, 85, of Albion, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, surrounded by family at Lakewood Continuing Care Center. Carol passed peacefully into the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior and was reunited with her husband Leslie "Pal" Clark, who predeceased her on Nov. 26, 2014. They were married on Sept. 8, 1951 and enjoyed a long and happy marriage.
Carol was born April 23, 1933, the oldest daughter of Elwood and Alice Knight. She graduated from Besse High School in Albion and shortly after began her married life and raising her family. She was a member of the Fairfield United Methodist church and Albion Senior Citizens group. She also immensely enjoyed her monthly meetings with the "Tea Party Ladies". Carol was known for her homemaking skills, wonderful food including the best chocolate chip cookies and cherry nut cake around, her crafting abilities, her crochet or knit doilies and afghans, needlework, and handmade gifts. Anyone who was blessed to receive one of her handmade gifts truly knew how special they were to her.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, Elwood and Alice (Haskell) Knight.
She is survived by a large and loving family. Surviving her is younger sister, Barbara Knight of Albion, who spent almost every day of the past nine months by her side, caring for her. They shared many fun times together over the years, including a cross country road trip to Texas prior to Pal's passing and have shared many stories of various shenanigans when they were younger.
She will be remembered lovingly by her children Sandra (Clark) and husband, Lars Jonassen, of Albion, Brian Clark and wife, Vicky, of Worcester, Mass., Steven Clark and wife, Janice, of Eagle Pass, Texas, and Cathy Clark and Sharon Arneson, of Allen, Texas.
She was blessed to have spent many wonderful times and made countless memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving her are grandchildren, Kelly (Jonassen) Hanscom and husband, Mark, and their children, Annabelle and Reese, Michelle (Clark) Garner and husband, Christopher, and their children, Reid, Ethan, and Alice, Michael Clark, and significant other Jessica Lyon and her son, Andrew, Keith Jonassen and wife, Danielle, and their children Calum and Marin, Melissa (Clark) Hackett and her son, Emerson, Jessica (Clark) Boulanger and husband, Scott and their daughter, Sierra, Tyler Humphrey, Gage Humphrey. Since the marriage of her son Brian to Vicky she enjoyed getting to know and welcoming Vicky's children and grandchildren to the family. Carol's grandchildren and great-grandchildren had the privilege of learning many special recipes, canning tips, and crafts from their "Grammie" and "GG". They will always remember sleepovers, family gatherings, holiday dinners, Clark family reunions, and having her and Grampie at their school activities, sporting events, weddings, and other special life events. She will also be fondly remembered by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and their families and special longtime friends who are too numerous to list.

ALBION - Leslie Coleman "Pal" Clark, 82, of Albion, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, with his wife Carol holding his hand. Pal made his journey to eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ following nearly a year-long journey with lung cancer and declining health.
He was born on December 21, 1931, in Summerfield, New Brunswick, Canada, son of John D. and Catherine Green Clark. He graduated from Besse High School in Albion, and went to work at Lee Brothers Construction Company shortly after. He worked for Lee Brothers for 48 years in many capacities including superintendent and foreman. He was very proud of being able to operate every piece of construction equipment and keeping the local roads plowed for many winters. In his retirement he enjoyed offering his expertise to numerous local construction companies.
He was member of the Fairfield United Methodist Church, and served there in many capacities. He will be remembered by his church family as the best greeter with the biggest smile and best hugs. He was a member of Central Lodge 45 AF & AM in China, and served on the Albion Volunteer Fire Department in his earlier years. He volunteered countless hours to the Fairfield Interfaith Food Pantry, and Meals on Wheels.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Carleton Green, Ralph Green, Glen Clark, John Clark, George Clark and Francis "Mavor" Clark; and in-laws Elwood and Alice (Haskell) Knight.
Pal is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carol Knight Clark. They were married September 8, 1951, and began their family shortly after. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara Knight, of Albion; children Sandra (Clark) and husband Lars Jonassen, of Albion, Brian Clark and wife Vicky, of Worcester MA, Steven Clark and wife Janice, of Eagle Pass, TX, and Cathy Clark and Sharon Arneson, of Allen TX. He was also blessed to have enjoyed time with his grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Surviving him are grandchildren Kelly (Jonassen) Hanscom and husband Mark and their children Annabelle and Reese; Michelle (Clark) Garner and husband Christopher and their children Reid, Ethan, and Alice; Michael Clark; Keith Jonassen and wife Danielle and their children Calum and Marin; Melissa (Clark) Hackett and her son Emerson; Jessica (Clark) Boulanger and husband Scott and their daughter Sierra; Tyler Humphrey; and Gage Humphrey.
They had the privilege of learning cribbage, dominoes, gardening, cooking, and to have fun in all you do from their Grampie and Great-Grampie. He and Grammie also spent countless hours attending sporting events and other extra-curricular activities to support their family. He also enjoyed getting to know the family of his new daughter-in-law, Vicky. Family was very important to Pal, and he will be fondly remembered by a large extended family of nieces, nephews and their families.

Sularie "Sonny," 72, of Augusta, passed away peacefully with family by his side in the evening, Feb. 24, after a lengthy illness at Glenridge-MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Home in Augusta, where he had lived for the last couple of years of his life. He was born in Augusta, on Oct. 27, 1933, a son of Louis and Madeline (Cross) Sularie of Boston, Mass.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, where he proudly served his country in the Army. His military discipline earned him medals while serving in the Army. He was employed in many different fields over the years, including being a professional cook at many establishments, and at one time owned three restaurants. He was a salesman for years, winning many awards for his accomplishments. He liked playing the guitar, and his favorite hobby was to go fishing. He will be sadly missed by all.
He is survived by his two sons, Larry Sularie and wife, Betty, of Vassalboro and Michael Sularie and fiancée, Trish, of Waterville; daughter, Debby Sularie and companion, Michael Kartman, of Vassalboro; two brothers, Louis Trombetta and companion, Jeanne Fitzgerald, of Melbourne, Fla. and Mark Trombetta and wife, Evelyn, of Danvers, Mass.; one sister, Audrey Nickerson of Augusta; and Pauline of Vassalboro, (mother of their three children); 10 grandchildren, Nathan, Amy, Shawn, Amanda, Heather, Justin, Michael, Megan, Ryan and Amy P.; four great-grandchildren, Luke, Jordanna, Kylee and Caleb; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents.

April 18, 1985Palermo � Cony Moody Haskell, 78, of Western Ridge Road, died Wednesday afternoon at Colonial House Manor, Waterville, following a brief illness. He was born in South China, Jan. 30, 1907, the son of Wesley and Elva (Hubbs) Haskell.
He attended Erskine Academy in South China beginning in 1923, and also attended Oak Grove Seminary in Vassalboro, where he played football. He later moved tLynn, Mass., where he married Dorothy Pote on Jan. 20, 1941
Prior to his marriage, Mr. Haskell had worked as a guard for the former Covert Armored Car Co. in Lynn, and as a security guard for many years at the General Electric Co., also in Lynn. In 1959 he and his wife moved to Palermo and built a home on Western Ridge Road. Mr. Haskell then was employed for several years as a psychiatric aide at the Augusta State Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of Palermo, one daughter, Mrs. Marion E. Reynolds of Waterville; two sisters, Mrs. Leon (Dorothy) Tebbetts of Hallowell, and Mrs. Jenney LeClaire of Clairmont, N.H.; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one nephew and several cousins.
Burial at the family lot at Chadwick Hills Cemetery, South China.

November 10, 2012Donald J. Matson, 88, passed away on Monday, (November 5, 2012), at Apple Rehab of Farmington Valley in Plainville. He was the husband of the Evelyn (Gauvin) Matson. He was born on March 8, 1924 in Oakland, ME, the son of the late Joseph and Mildred Matson.
Donald was a US Army Veteran of World War II. He had worked for Tomasso as a Heavy Equipment Operator prior to his retirement. He was a member of Local #478 International Union of Engineers for over 40 years.
He is survived by a daughter Donna Chase of Maine; a niece Carolyn Reney who was his caregiver for the past 11 years; a sister-in-law Lenore Burneika of Farmington and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter Dorothy Reynolds.

June 7, 1997Leon H. Tebbetts, 88, died at his home on Thursday.
He was born in Lynn, Mass., a son of William Garfield and Lillian Turner Tebbetts. From age 12 until his death, he was productive as a writer, artist, publisher, movie maker and bookseller. For the past 40 years he had lived at 164 Water St. here. Mr. Tebbetts graduated from Portland's Deering High in 1927, attended Colby College for a year and worked for The Portland Newspapers until 1936.
In 1930 he married Alice Cleaves of Chebeague Island. Five years later, he founded Falmouth Publishing House, which operated until 1955 in Portland, Manchester and Rockport. Mr. Tebbetts was an Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II.
In 1950 he married Dorothy Haskell. She died in 1992. A son, Leon Garfield Tebbetts, predeceased him in 1955.
His friend and publishing partner Ray Dostie had cared for him for the past five years, during which he wrote an autobiographical work about publishing in Maine. The book, completed three weeks ago, has been accepted for the archive collection at Bates College, along with copies of the other 187 books he published over the years.
Surviving are a son, William of Portland; two sisters; Buelah Bourke of Portland and Eleanor Libby of Bradington, Fla.; four grandchildren, William Leon Tebbetts of Atlantic Beach, Fla., Derek Tebbetts of Portland, Steven Lunt of Winston Salem, N.C., and Deborah McNamara of Yarmouth; five great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces.
