She was the daughter of William & Ann Maria (Reed) York. She was a member of the First Congregational Church here and Onawa OES Chapter in Millinocket.
Surviving are two sons, Arthur of East Millinocket and Albert of Rochester, New York; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, he worked for Eastman Kodak, Windsor, Colo., for more than 20 years. Upon retiring in 1991, he and his wife, Sylvia, traveled the country in their motor home for more than five years before settling in Naples, Fla.
Albert will be dearly missed by his family, including his wife, Sylvia; his children, Albert Jr. of Loveland, Colo., Greg of Berthoud, Colo., and Ellen of Fort Myers, Fla.; and his grand-son, Jeff of Longmont, Colo.

GARLAND and ORONO - Geraldine K. Clark, 83, wife of the late Roger W. Clark, died Jan. 31, 2009, at Orono Commons Nursing Home, where she had made her home for the past year.
She was born July 20, 1925, in Garland, the daughter of William and Eva (Haskell) Earnest.
She was a graduate of N.H. Faye High School, Dexter, and three years later was employed in the State Department, Washington, D.C., during the war. A resident of Garland the greater part of her life, she worked for Dunlap Agency, Bangor, as an insurance agent for 13 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Faye (Clark) Eishen and her husband, Thomas, of Spring, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Gloria J. Brooks of Florida. Geraldine was predeceased by her husband in 1962.
Graveside memorial services will be announced in the spring. Those who wish may make donations in Geraldine's memory to Disabled American Veterans, Memorial Program, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301. Arrangements are by Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth.

Col;e, a native of canada who lived in the area 14 years, died Thursday in a hospital. He retired in 1958 because of a heart cobdition. His last work was as an expediter for Rohr Aircraft Corp.

She was born in Portland, a daughter of Michael and Annie Connolly Chisholm. She graduated from Cathedral High School.She began working in the late 1960s for Giant department store and later for King's department store, from which she retired in the early 1980s.
Mrs. Haskell was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and past president of the St. Dominic's School Mothers Club.
Her husband of 40 years, Edward E. Haskell, died in 1977.
Survivors include a son, James of Portland; a daughter, Patricia LaChance of Westbrook; a sister, Nora Nappi of Portland; and four grandchildren.

November 6, 2009SCARBOROUGH -- Earl Ramsay, 83, of Scarborough and Great Diamond Island, died peacefully on Nov. 4, 2009, after a brief illness. He was born July 8, 1926, in Winslow, the son of Embert and Lila Ramsay.
He graduated from Winslow High School. After completing one year at Colby College, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during WWII. After the war, he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in education from the University of Maine at Orono.
While at UMO, he met Ruth Small and they were married in June of 1950.
Earl was an administrator and teacher for the South Portland School system for 35 years - retiring in 1984. During that time, he earned an advanced master's from the University of Illinois and taught part-time for the UMaine system and Husson College. He was a member of the AMVETS Post #0212 and the Cumberland County Retired Educators Association. In 1963, Earl and Ruth bought their beloved cottage on Great Diamond Island and his passion for island living began. His love of adventure and learning took him on many trips around the world. Friends and family could count on his genuine warmth, a cold beer, great stories and lots of laughs courtesy of Earl on the front porch of the cottage.
He was predeceased by his wife Ruth in 2003.
Earl is survived by his daughter Susan Hill and her husband Jim of Lithia, Fla., his daughter Kate Putnam and her husband Jeff of Cape Elizabeth, his son Jim of Charleston, S.C., and his son John and his wife Emy of Fruitland, Md.; seven grandchildren, James Hill, Julie Park, Ben, Zak and Abby Putnam, Joshua and Jordan Ramsay; four great-grandchildren, Alec and Ryan Park, Raelyn and Aidan Hill; sisters Doris Smith of Scarborough, and Jean Platt of Rolla, Mo.; and his companion of the past five years, Carol Ann Meehan of Scarborough.

October 24, 2011Maynard H. Parmenter, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2011.
He was born in 1924 in Weeks Mills, Maine, and was the son of Stanley and Grace Parmenter.Maynard joined the Marine Corps in 1941. He was a member of the 4th Marine Division, stationed on the islands of Roi Namur and Saipain, and Tinian, Mariana. He was wounded on Saipain and Tinian and was awarded two purple hearts. He was discharged in 1945 with honorable and satisfactory service.
He returned to Maine and lived there for seven years. He married Irene L. Rodeschin. They had two sons: David J. Parmenter, and Brian Stanley Parmenter, both of whom preceded him in death.
Maynard and Irene moved to Charleston in 1953, where he was owner of Maynards Supply, dealing in hydraulics. Maynard loved playing cards, telling jokes, traveling in the motor home with Irene, feeding the birds, photographing Charleston, and he especially loved his dog Susie. Maynard used to say, "Once a Marine, always a Marine." He was a 35-year member of American Legion Post 147 and VFW Post 445, both on James Island. He traveled to the Marine Corps Memorial in Virginia.
He is survived by Irene, his beloved wife of 65 years; 2 brothers, Mervyn and wife Madeline Parmenter, Roydon Parmenter; his wife's siblings, whom he counted as his own: Frieda and Ronnie Bourne, Billy and Barbara Rodeschin, Henry and Beverly Rodeschin, Katherine "Kiki" and Frank Miller, and many nieces and nephews.

October 13, 2012SIDNEY - Alfred J. "Mike" Marceau, 83, of Sidney, passed away peacefully at the Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta on Sept. 19, 2012, after a long illness. He was born in Augusta on Nov. 20, 1928, the only son of Napoleon and Harmonia (Dostie) Marceau. Mr. Marceau served honorably in the Army during World War II.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Bates Manufacturing Co., Edward Division, for many years. When the mill closed he went to work for the Belgrade School Department.He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Le Club Calumet of Augusta, very active in the Cushnoc Senior Citizens Club and a longtime member of the Trailblazers of Augusta.
In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his wife and the love of his life, Shirley A. (Bumford) Marceau; his parents; and his only sister, Carmeline M. Plourd.
Surviving is his son, Jeffery Marceau and his wife, Deborah, of Belgrade; two granddaughters, whom will always remember him as Pep: Sarah Marceau and Vanessa (Marceau) Humphrey and her husband, Mike, both of Waterville; and two great-grandsons.

Mervyn S. Parmenter, age 84, passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Veterans Hospital at Togus. He was born in Weeks Mills, ME in 1929 to the late Stanley O. and Grace H. (Haskell) Parmenter.
Mervyn was a US Marine and served in both the North Atlantic and Mediterranean areas from 1947-1950. After receiving an honorable discharge he worked for several years at Hudson Pulp and Paper in Augusta. He worked his way through college and earned his degree. He helped create the Augusta Pulp and Sulfite Credit Union where he remained treasurer for several years. The credit union is now the Capital Area Federal Credit Union. After 25 years, Mervyn retired from the State of Maine as the Director of the Income Tax Division in Taxation.
Upon retiring, he enjoyed cross country trips with his wife and friends where they all shared wonderful views, many experiences and lots of laughs. Mervyn and his buddies built a camp on Square Lake in Aroostook County where they spent 40 plus years fishing, hunting, story telling, pulling pranks, playing poker and enjoying the company of friends and family.
Mervyn enjoyed woodworking during his golden years and built many items such as kitchen tables, end tables, totem poles and benches. He could never make just one because once someone in the family saw his work, they asked for a reproduction. He loved York Peppermint Patties and hated broccoli.
Mr. Parmenter was pre-deceased by a brother, Maynard Parmenter and a sister, Mickey Spear.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Madeline R. (Doyon) Parmenter of Whitefield; a daughter, Marlene Richards and her husband Jon of Windsor; a brother, Roydon Parmenter and his son Bobby of Augusta; a sister-in-law Irene Parmenter of Charleston, SC; his special friend and buddy, Bailey as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

March 25, 2007Alice P Wotton, 98, formerly of Warren, Maine, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at Life Care of Cleveland. She was born in Belfast, Maine, March 15, 1909. She was the daughter of Leland and Hattie Ward Piper. She was educated in Belfast schools and was a 1927 graduate of Crosby High School.
She married Robert D. Wotton on Aug. 31, 1941. She resided all of her married life in Warren.
She and her husband were longtime active members of South Hope Community Church. Her husband died Oct. 26, 1985. She moved to Cleveland in 1997 to live with her daughter, Lois Riley. Since that time, she has been a member of the Westmore Church of God.
Survivors include two sons; Bernard L. Wotton of Collegedale and Stephen R. Wotton and his wife, Audrey, of Elyria, Ohio; one daughter, Lois M. Riley and her husband, Milton W. of Cleveland; three grandchildren: Alicia J. Riley, Rebekah L. Riley and Matthew R. June 18, 2017AUBURN - Alice H. Piper, 99, of 440 Minot Avenue, Auburn, died on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin with her loving family by her side following a short illness.
She was born in Searsmont on September 17, 1917, the daughter of the late Irving and Inez (Cushman) Hall.
As an infant, the family moved to Belfast, where she received her education and graduated from Crosby High School, Class of 1934. After graduation, she was a secretary for the Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad.
On February 20, 1937, she married Maynard Piper and moved to Auburn, Maine.
In 1952, she worked at Bates College as secretary to the president. Later Alice worked for the Law Office of Trafton, Scales and Smith until her retirement in 1978. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, painting, writing poetry and taking road trips with her husband, Maynard. She was a 73-year member of the Court Street Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess, Sunday school teacher and circle leader, a volunteer at the Clothes Closet and an active member of the Androscoggin County Women's Republican Party.
She is survived by two sons, David Piper and his wife, Kathleen, of Skaneateles, N.Y. and Kenneth Piper and his wife, Susie, of Berea, Ky.; four grandchildren, Cynthia Sanford, Brian and Michael Piper and Jill Girzadas; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Maynard, who died in 2002; and her siblings, Wilfred, Charles, Milton, Ruth, Edith and Marjorie.

January 18, 2013BREWER - Meriel H. Sargent, 95, wife of Frank D. Sargent, died Jan. 18, 2013, at the Maine Veterans Home. She was born June 25, 1917, in Oakland, the daughter of Bernard A. and Edna B. (Wentworth) Haskell.
Meriel was a faithful Red Sox fan, attending many games throughout the years. She attended North Brewer-Eddington United Methodist Church. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Millwee Chapter No. 198 and Penobscot County Extension Service Club.
Surviving are her daughter, Bonnie J. Whitney and her husband, Kenneth, of Brewer; two grandchildren, Lori Thompson, and Scott Thompson and his wife, Cindy, of Florida; three great-grandchildren, Kasey Hewey of Brewer, Ryan and Taylor Thompson of Florida; one sister, Bertha Ellis of Jacksonville, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

February 7, 2016BREWER - Frank D. Sargent, 98, passed away peacefully, Feb. 6, 2016 at a St. Joseph Hospital, Bangor. He was born June 16, 1917 in Winter Harbor, ME, the son of Charles and Emily Sargent.
Frank was a strong man who worked in the local area all of his life as a truck driver and was a US Army veteran of WWII. He was very proud of his family and spent the last several years living at the Leach Home in Brewer. He enjoyed his many friends there and always had a new joke to tell them all. Several years ago Frank wrote, "After working 42 years driving truck, I retired to enjoy a lot of hunting and fishing until I got too old to it anymore. So now I just tell stories and drink coffee with my friends." One of Frank's favorite adventures was taking Legacy Sandwiches to Bottle Lake to visit the Dysarts.
Frank was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Meriel and by his two brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Ken Whitney of Brewer; his grandson, Scott Thompson and his wife, Cindy of Florida and his granddaughter, Lori Thompson of Texas; great grandchildren, Kasey Hewey of Portland, Ryan and Taylor Thompson; one brother, Earl of Westbrook and a sister-in-law, Bertha Ellis of Florida; several nieces and nephews.

He had been employed here for 12 years with National Survey and the past three years he was with Fellows Gear Sharper in Springfield, Vt. He was a member of the Springfield VFW and a former member of the Springfield Lodge of Moose.

Caring sister-in-law of Diane Haskell and Eileen Haskell. She is further survived by 11 treasured grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren as well as other dear relatives and friend
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Haskell, Everett Haskell and Curtis Haskell.
Arlene's greatest joy was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She truly had a special love for children and had volunteered at children's hospitals both in Phoenix and Milwaukee. Her strong faith helped her through many difficult situations in her life, including the loss of a son and her two husbands. She was an avid sports fan who enjoyed all sporting events and was a close friend to many major league baseball players. Arlene was an elegant and caring lady who faithfully lived out the teachings of the Gospels by the sincere love she showed to everyone that came into her life.

February 20, 2017Diana Haskell (Collins), 79, of Cedar Rapids, IA and formerly of Beloit, WI, died Monday, February 6, 2017 at Meth-Wick Community in the Woodlands, Cedar Rapids, IA.
She was born January 18, 1938 in Sioux City, IA, the daughter of Ralph and Barbara (Knowles) Bloyer. Diana was a 1956 graduate of South Beloit High School, South Beloit, IL. She married Everett Haskell on September 19, 1959 in Beloit, WI. He predeceased her on December 7, 1995. Following Everett's death, she split her time between Beloit and Congress, AZ and was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church of Yarnell, AZ. She later married Don Collins in 2005, and they resided in Arizona until his death in 2007. Diana then moved to Mt. Vernon, IA to be close to her daughter, Amy, for ongoing care and treatment with Alzheimer's.
While in Beloit, WI, and after graduating from Cosmetology School, Diana became the owner and operator of Pleasant Beauty Salon for over 15 years. She was an avid volunteer for the greater Beloit area. She was a former Girl Scout leader, member of the Junior Women's Club, YWCA, The League of Women's Voters, and the Beloit Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Diana enjoyed crafts, decorating, traveling, and attending ball games of her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Amy (Brad) Russell of Mt. Vernon, IA and Ephraim, WI, and Jennifer (Bryan) Sipple of Waunakee, WI; 13 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Don Bloyer.

May 16, 2003Bill Stickler, 78, of Queen Creek, AZ and formerly of - Tempe, AZ, passed away at home surrounded by his family and his - special dog Pepper.
Bill Stickler is preceded in death by his parents William and Josephine Stickler, his brother Grover and sister Doris.
He is survived by his loving wife Marian of 56 years, his daughters Kathie Fitzsimmons (Jerry) of Queen Creek, AZ, and Debbie Fellers (Jim) of Charlotte, NC, his brother Russell Stickler (Alberta) of Laguna Woods, CA, 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and numerous other family members and friends.
Bill graduated from South Beloit High School in 1943 and was a real sports enthusiast. He was a WWII Army veteran who served in China, Burma, and India. He was the founder of Space Finders Mobile Home Referral Service and a member of Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tempe. His motto was "family helps family". He taught us strong values. We know you are in heaven with God and at peace. We love you and will miss you forever.

June 21, 1971Mesa - Services and burial Bernard L. Fitch, 50, a buyer for Motorola in Scottsdale, will be in Beloit, Wis.
Mr. Fitch of 416 N. Ash, died Saturday in Memorial Hospital in Phoenix. Born in Illinois, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as an inspector in the Beloit Paper Mill before coming to Mesa seven years ago.
Survivors incude his wife, Lucille; four sons, Tom and Jimmie of Mesa, John of Boston and Terrell Nitzche of Rockford, Ill.; a daughter, Debra Fellers of New Carlisle, Ohio; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Fitch of Beloit; a sister out of state and four grandchildren.
