December 9, 2014Loretta (McKee) Hascall, age 90, of Gering left this life on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
Loretta was born Nov. 19, 1924, near Potter to Charles and Helen (Mitchell) McKee as the sixth of seven children. Her siblings were Charles, Mary (Tomlinson), Melvin, Peggy (Sauders), Merle and a younger brother Eddie. The family moved to Gering, where Loretta attended school and graduated from Gering High School in 1943. Loretta met Bob Hascall, of Banner County, when she was working in a diner and even though he stood her up for their first date, they were married on Oct. 24, 1945, in Junction City, Kan, where Bob was in the army at Fort Riley. Loretta graduated from beauty school in Denver, Colo. and enjoyed a cosmetology career working in her home to earn income while her two daughters were growing up.
In 1967, Bob and Loretta moved to Apple Valley, Minn., where Bob worked as district manager for Mack Trucks and Loretta managed several Hallmark Card and Gift Stores. When they moved back to Scottsbluff to be near family, Loretta began an 18-year career at K-Mart, first in the accounting office, and then fifteen years as personnel manager.
Loretta's trip of a lifetime was to Ireland in 2000 where she traveled with her daughters and niece, Bonnie McKee, so they could trace their Irish roots and meet "new'"relatives before she "turned to vapors."Loretta was never able to sit still and watch others work. She loved to cook and sew clothes and household accessories. She took adult education courses to learn to expertly upholster furniture, tailor, make hats, and decorate cakes. She was co-leader for her daughters' 4-H Club and taught Sunday School for many years, hosted countless family dinners and welcomed guests to stay overnight and spend time at their Lake Minatare Cabin. She also served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Oregon Trail Museum Association. Loretta lived at Northfield Villa for twelve years, where she loved making new friends, greeting old friends, and making herself useful; celebrating her 90th birthday there Nov. 22. Loretta always said she had a great mother, who was the rock of the family. Loretta learned from this example and was the foundation for her own family, including drawing her nieces and nephews and their family's into her embrace.
Loretta is survived by her two daughters Pat (Peter) Stolberg of Sarasota, Fla. and Judy (Bob) Tupper of Columbus; grandchildren Josh (Leila) Stolberg, Jason (Denise) Stolberg, Sarah (Wade) Tupper Sears, Zachary (Steph) Tupper, Zane (Katie) Tupper, and twelve great-grandchildren Asher and Xander Stolberg, Sidney and Maia Stolberg, Parker and Sawyer Sears, Ali, Joe, and Annabelle Tupper, Will, Cole, and Leo Tupper, and a legion of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob in 2003, her parents, and her brothers and sisters.
Dan owned and operated his own truck line and was killed while driving his truck.

Information re: Glenn Guy Hascall - from Robert Gaumer
Glenn Guy Hascall, born in Ill, came to a homestead farm approximately 9 miles west of Redington, Neb. about 1884. Grew up and worked as farmhand in various places in Western Nebraska. Moved to Norfold about 1925. Worked on railroad until he came back to farming in Wetern Nebraska in 1935. Retired from the farm in 1950 and moved to Bridgeport where he worked as a policman until 1972 at which time he retired.
Local constable - 1970 approximately in Bridgeport
May have been a night watchman - worked at night.
Up to 1924 Glenn & Maude together (Maude moved to Missouri at that time.) Glenn had a homestead in W. Nebr. around 1912 (approx) (Maude had a homestead) North of Harmon Hascall (now owned by Roger Hascall) Glenn sold his.
Harmon's, Adelaides's 3/4 section was traded (1929) till it was brought together. They proved up on one section and traded or "bought" till they had three ajoining sections. Glenn wound up with 2 - 1/4 sections and Maude 1 -1/4 section.
Granddad Hascall - how did he make a living? Only income may have come from milk from cows. The Gillespie clan was fairly well fixed. In 1930 the estate was settled. Adelaide received $3 500.
Glenn worked on the farm; cowboy, worked with Dad as a well driller. In Norfolk, NE got a job with the railroad - worked there as a section hand. He had short arms - they gave him a different job - servicing the cars with water at night.
When Granddad died Adelaide went to live with Glenn in Norfolk. Why they left - he lost his job; she got her inheritance - they moved to Nebraska and built up their property. The house that was there was burnt while Glenn and Ruth lived there.
He left the farm when oil was found and lived in Bridgeport. One well was found. Most of his income came from that well. He did odd jobs around to keep busy. He would rent out his land instead of farming it himself.
