She was preceded in death by one sister and a son, Thomas Owens.

February 15, 1996LAPORTE - Joseph C. Straub, 78, of 3397 W. Waverly Road, died at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday in Life Care Center.
Mr. Straub was retired from White Farm Equipment, South Bend.He was born Oct. 16, 1917, in Hesston. On April 27, 1956, in LaPorte, he married Elizabeth M. "Betty" Bowman. She survives with two daughters, Sandra Burkhart of LaPorte and Mary Jo Zembala of North Judson; a son, John H. of LaPorte; two stepdaughters, Cherie Fuller and Penny Jedrysek, both of LaPorte; a stepson, Daniel Earl of laPorte; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Milton of LaPorte. Mr. Straub was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Christian Church.

October 8, 2010Elizabeth M. "Betty" Straub, 92, of La Porte, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010 at La Porte Hospital.
She was born Jan. 17, 1918, in La Porte, the daughter of R. Paul Bowman and Annie (Carpenter) Bowman.
Betty worked and retired as a secretary for Modine Manufacturing. She also worked for Deluxe Products and the Coleman Co. She was a member of the First Christian Church of La Porte and the Sarah Circle of the church. Betty enjoyed camping, nature, the outdoors and crafting. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Betty enjoyed life.
On April 27, 1956, in La Porte, she married Joseph C. Straub, who preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1996.
She is survived by her three daughters, Cherie Fuller of La Porte, Penny (Steve) Jedrysek of La Porte, Mary Jo (Larry) Zembala of North Judson, Ind.; one son, Daniel (Karen) Earl of La Porte; stepdaughter, Sandra (Bill) Burkhart of La Porte; stepson, John H. (Linda) Straub of La Porte; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathryn (Carl) Thode of New Carlisle, Ind., and two brothers, Donald (Shirley) Bowman of La Porte and Phillip (Beverly) Bowman of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Robert Bowman.

August 13, 2001LaPORTE - Milton F. Straub, 79, LaPorte, died at 11:45 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 11, 2001) at Our Lady of Holy Cross in San Pierre, Ind.
Mr. Straub was born Nov. 3, 1921, in LaPorte, to Charles and Gertrude (Martin) Straub. On June 9, 1940, in LaPorte, he married Norma Overmyer. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Elaine Ashcraft, LaPorte; two sons, Joseph M. Straub, Chesterton, Neil D. Straub, LaPorte; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A brother preceded him in death.
Mr. Straub was retired in 1988 as a carpenter with 25 years of service at Weil-McLain. He worked for 20 years for the carpenter's union and then 25 years for Weil-McLain. Mr. Straub was a member of First Christian Church and International Molders Union Local 316B and he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II.

March 26, 2009Mrs. Norma B. Straub, 87, of La Porte, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at La Porte Hospital in La Porte. She was born Sept. 24, 1921 in Rochester, Ind., the daughter of Benjamin Overmyer and Blanch (Sanders) Overmyer, living in the La Porte area all of her life.
Norma worked in the packaging department for American Home Foods for 22 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of First Christian Church of La Porte. On June 19, 1940, in La Porte, she married Milton Straub, who preceded her death on Aug. 11, 2001.
She is survived by her two sons, Joseph M. (Patricia) Straub of Chesterton, Ind., and Neil D. (Danielle) Straub of La Porte; one daughter, Elaine F. (Michael) Ashcraft of La Porte; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Norma came from a large family of twelve brothers and sisters.
Interment will follow in the Posey Chapel Cemetery, Rolling Prairie, Ind.

January 28, 2010NORMAL - Charles "Ed" Francis, 71, Normal, passed away at 6:43 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 23, 2010) at The Wealshire Nursing Home in Lincoln-shire.
He was born April 28, 1938, in Three Oaks, Mich., son of Milton and Leona Jensen Francis. He married Carolyn Nash on Aug. 14, 1970, in Bloomington.
Surviving are one daughter, Carrie Francis, Wauconda; one sister, Janet (Albert) Buller, Battle Creek, Mich.; one sister-in-law, Nancy Francis, Three Oaks, Mich.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Francis.
Ed was a U.S. Army veteran.
He received bachelor and master of science degrees from Western Michigan University at Kalamazoo, Mich., and his doctorate from the University of Missouri at Columbia.
Ed was a professor at Illinois State University, Normal, in the Department of Industrial Technology for more than 30 years, retiring in 1997. He was an international expert on alternative energy sources.
Ed was active in the Rotary Club and the Sister Cities Association. He was a skilled archer and a member of the United States Parachute Association.

March 23, 2010SYLVANIA TWP. -- Beverly L. Hileman, 82, of Sylvania Township, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010, at her residence while under hospice care.
She was born in Milwaukee, Wisc., Sept. 17, 1927.
Beverly was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. After graduation she enjoyed the time spent working as a home economist in Detroit. In 1963 Beverly began taking education courses at the University of Akron, and became a substitute teacher for Rittman schools. A highlight in her professional career came when a young blind girl, whom she was tutoring, became eligible for graduation and Beverly accompanied her on the stage to receive her diploma. Beverly always had a strong sense of community, volunteering countless hours for over 25 years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, George P. Hileman; sons, Donald P. (Elizabeth) and James S. (Sharon) Hileman; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

October 15, 2011SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP -- George Hileman, 87, of Sylvania Township, passed away Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg.
He was a proud 1948 graduate of Penn State University, and was employed as a professional engineer with Babcock & Wilcox Corporation for 35 years. He then joined Keeler Dorr & Oliver of Williamsport Port, Pa., where he retired in 1988.A very spiritual individual, embracing the Presbyterian faith, George served on the National Presbytery for five years. He was a church elder for more than 50 years, and a Sunday school teacher. He also served as church building and grounds chairmen, as well as chairman of the worship committee during his life of service to the church. He especially enjoyed the men's Bible study group at Christ Presbyterian Church.Not just only limiting his time to church service, George found time to serve on the Rittman and Williamsport, Pa. planning commissions. George was also a dedicated volunteer with Habitat for Humanity for 17 years.
Surviving are sons, Donald P. (Elizabeth) and James S. (Sharon) Hileman; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Williams of Wyoming, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Beverly L. Hileman; and brothers, David and Floyd Hileman.
Robert Dean Haskell was adopted by Ruth's second husband George Rendsland, and Robert's name was changed to Robert Dean Rendsland.Robert and Elizabeth had six children.
