I was born on the twenty-first day of February 1921, in Hyrum, Utah. My parents were Aleda Anderson Allen and Russell Gale Allen, both Hyrum natives. I had two brothers: Reed, three years older, passed away in 2005, and Thair, seven years younger, passed away in l981 from a heart attack.

I received my early schooling at the old Lincoln Elementary and the old South Cache High School where I was very active in athletics. Graduated from high school and seminary in 1939. Entered Utah State Agriculture College where I earned letters in basketball and football and directed the campus Intramural Program, joined the SAE fraternity and was listed in the Who's Who of Outstanding Students on U.S. Colleges and Campuses. Graduated in 1943 with a Bachelor's of Science in Education. While on campus, I enlisted in the Officers Candidate Program in the Army. They allowed me to finish the program as well as graduate from college before I was called into the service. Upon entering the service I was inducted at Fort MacArthur, California, and sent by train to Camp Davis, North Carolina, to officer training camp for three months. I was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in Dec of l943, in the coast artillery. I spent two years in the southern states training men for overseas duty. My turn came to go which sent me to the Philippine Islands for one year at Baguio as an athletic and recreation officer at Camp John Hay. The Japanese surrendered while we were in Pearl Harbor on the way to the Philippines, so I never did see any action. I retired from the service with an honorable discharge as a 1st Lt. in 1946.

Upon returning home and separating from the service, I entered Utah State to obtain a master's degree in the field of Education in 1945. I fulfilled all the requirements for a master's degree, except writing a thesis.

Roma Poole and I were married in the Logan Temple on the 22nd of November, l946. We taught at Cedar High School for two years, and I coached basketball and baseball. We then returned to Utah State to acquire the necessary credits to enter Dental School. I entered Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Missouri, and earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1954. We returned to Logan, Utah, and I practiced dentistry there for thirty-two years before retiring in 1986. I grew up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions, including two Bishoprics, and as an officiator in the Logan Temple. I have a strong testimony of the Church and the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We have four beautiful children: Kittie, Bonnie, Julie and Charles.

At the present time, July 2001, I am eighty years old and still going strong, for which I thank the Lord every day for the life I have had. LIFE HAS BEEN GOOD AND LIFE IS GOOD!! ... 53090. Paul Ray Allen

Find-a-Grave

Paul Ray Allen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, neighbor and Fellow Lion died on July 19, 2013. Heaven needed help with their garden, Dad wanted to fish with his brothers and loop with his dad (surely looping is legal in heaven).

Born in Hyrum Utah on April 22, 1933 to Vernice and Donald Allen, he was a baby brother to Lloyd, Derral, Dean, and Margene. He did, however have to share being spoiled with his baby sister, Ruth.

Dad and Mom enjoyed 60 wonderful years of grand adventures together, beginning with time in New York as Dad served in the U.S. Army.

Dad was the foundation of our family, caring for Mom and helping his children. Rarely did a day go by without one of us calling Dad for advice on cooking, gardening, house care or cars. He has taught us all that we know and is largely responsible for all our successes.

Dad's loves included his family, serving as a Bountiful Lion for over 30 years, raising a beautiful garden, sharing the vegetables he raised, telling stories, saying whatever was on his mind to anyone, and cooking and eating the "perfect meal".

He is survived by his wife Earlene, Children: Greg (Lisa), Judy (Jodi), Daren (Donna), Teresa Peterson (Kelly), Grandchildren: Amanda Jenkins (Tyler), Jessica, Alli, Jacob, Tara, and Great-grandchildren: Aspen, Noah, Eli, Lucy, Texas, and Frankie.

Dad was late again but it was a joyous reunion.  Our fearless leader, stalwart supporter and cornerstone of our family, Earlene Jorgensen Allen, left our presence on November 27, 2017.

Our mother was a caretaker.  We always felt loved and knew she was there for us.  She taught us it was o.k. to be different; if you wanted to dip your tuna fish sandwich in grape juice do so!  We will miss her sense of humor and her listening ear.  Her love for her grandchildren was immeasurable.

She is survived by her children, Greg (Lisa), Judy (Jodi), Daren (Donna),Teresa (Kelly) Peterson; her grandchildren, Amanda (Tyler), Tara, Jessica, Alli and Jacob;  six great-grandchildren; siblings, Gloy Jorgensen, Verlynn Vandeberg, Sandford Jorgensen.

Growing up during the depression, on a 80-acre farm, taught Rod the value of service and the rewards of a hard day's work. Two mottos Rod lived by was "Make do...Do without...Wear it out" and "What good can I do today!" During his lifetime Rod has seen many advancements from electricity, indoor plumbing and automobiles through to the technological age of men on the moon.

Rod graduated from Jordan High School in 1936. He then attended Utah Agricultural College (Utah State University) from 1938 -1941 where he met the girl of his dreams, Eileen Georgia Allen.

In 1941 Rod joined the Army serving in World War II. After the war, he joined the Utah National Guard and was battery commander. He served two years in the Korean War and retired as a major from the Utah National Guard.

On September 26, 1941, during a two-week furlough, Rod and Eileen were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time and all eternity. Eileen died April 5, 2003. Rod's family was his greatest joy.

Rod lived in the same home in Logan on the corner of 4th North and 1st West from 1945 to his passing. Working side-by-side with his sweetheart, they created a "Bit of Heaven" and a beautiful flower garden to enjoy and share with passers by.

Rod worked as a cabinet maker for 36 years at Ace Mill and Fixture Company doing what he loved, creating masterpieces with wood. His fine workmanship can be seen in hundreds of business, schools, churches and homes. To the time of his passing he was still restoring antiques and repairing furniture. One of his favorite projects was the work he did for the Fifteenth Ward Chapel where he was one of the few charter members remaining.

Rod was taught at the feet of his mother and developed a love for our Savior Jesus Christ. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved to serve the Lord. Throughout his life he served the Lord in various capacities; Bishop of the Fifteenth Ward, Counselor in the Bishopric of the Utah State University Branch, High Councilor, recommend clerk in the Logan Temple for 15-years and patron doing sessions each morning until his death.
