He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend to so many. He had the most incredible life filled with love. He was born in North Logan, Utah March 20, 1919, the son of Orson Winso and Jennie Mae Israelsen. In five months he transferred to the Air Corps, trained and became an instructor pilot in four-engine B-24 airplanes stateside. Next it was most of the year 1944 flying as commander of a lead crew flying the required Lead Crew 30 Missions in both B-17 and B-24 bombers for the 34th Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force, from Mendlesham Air Base in England. September 24, 2006Melvin Allen Israelsen, father, salesman, wheeler-dealer, wanderer, card player, grandpa, big-idea guy, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006 in Murray. He was 83. Born Sept. 30, 1922 in North Logan, Cache County, to Orson Winso and Jennie (Allen) Israelsen.
Melvin spent much of his youth on the family dairy farm. By the early 1940s, he was training to become a Navy pilot for the planned invasion of Japan. After the war, he traveled the Intermountain West, selling advertising for The Deseret News. In the 1950s, he moved his family to Los Angeles, then Chicago for his work as a sales rep for a national newspaper advertising firm. He returned to Utah in 1962 to work for the Newspaper Agency Corp, then Fidelity Insurance. A highly social creature, the "Mel Man," as some friends called him, traveled to virtually every continental state, an achievement that would later allow him to strike up conversations with just about anyone he met. "So you're from Boston, eh?" he'd say. "A 130 years ago I worked for The Boston Globe." Between train and plane trips around the USA, he enjoyed the Utah backcountry, where he hunted elk and deer.
He married Hannah Louise Matkin, of Hyde Park; and later divorced. They had five children, Anne Louise Hartle, Ivins, Terri (Mike) Willey, Bountiful, Melvin Bruce, Bountiful, Craig Allen, Tempe, AZ, and Brent Winso (Rebecca Walsh), Salt Lake City.
Married Bonnie Houston (now deceased). They had one daughter, Melonie Israelsen-Toro (George).
In his later years, he lived in the Southwest. From 1992 to 1999, he was general manager of Pink Cliffs Village Resort, on Scenic Byway 12 near Bryce Canyon, his favorite national park. During the past decade, he traveled extensively, often with a son or two, to Italy, Spain, Costa Rica, Mexico, and a Caribbean island forbidden to Americans. He also enjoyed air shows, antique shows, and Las Vegas, where he could chat with people from around the world about geography, business, and current events. With his big smile, John Wayne-like voice, and hearty laugh, he was instantly liked by strangers, many of whom, pointing to his white beard, exclaimed, "Santa Claus!" or "Fidel!" or "Z.Z. Top!" He cherished the many friendships he gained at the Friendship Manor during the past 19 months.
In addition to his children, he is survived by 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a brother, Orson Allen Israelsen, Albuquerque.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lettie (Rodrigo) and Ester (Ferguson); and baby brothers, Elwood and Gerald.

June 5, 20087BOUNTIFUL - Hannah Louise Matkin Israelsen Newsome, known affectionately as "Mom"? and "Grandma" and "Louise," died peacefully Sunday, June 1, 2008. She was 82. She was born July 11, 1925, into humble beginnings that became even more so in the years that would soon follow. Her childhood in north Cache County was marked by the deprivations of the Great Depression and, when she was 16, the death of her father. A brother then went off to war and would be scarred for life.
Through it all, thanks largely to a loving mother, Louise stayed courageous, ice-skating and whistling her way through the ups and downs. A member of Alpha Chi Omega and a waitress at Logan?s historic Bluebird restaurant, she was a popular young lady who loved to socialize and tap dance, a talent that helped her win the Miss Logan and Miss Utah titles in 1944.
Shortly before the war's end, she married a Navy man, Melvin Allen Israelsen, with whom she would have five children and see much of the United States. They later divorced.
She married Ira Angus Newsome, a widower with two children, in 1968. To help make ends meet, she worked as a receptionist, first for a wig sales company, then for a dentist. Though she loved working, she quit in the late 1970s to tend to her mother, whom she took into her home for eight years, until the task became too great.
Louise loved her mother dearly. She loved cats too. And traveling. with Ira, she saw almost every national park in the West. They cruised to Alaska and Hawaii, jetted off to Europe and motored frequently to St. George and Idaho Falls for well-deserved getaways.
She married both times in temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a devoted member of the Bountiful 27th Ward, serving in a variety of capacities.
A wonderful homemaker, flower gardener and cook, Louise attracted frequent visits from friends and relatives near and far. She kept the Newsome home at 1190 North Main elegant and spotless. By the early 1990s, Alzheimer?s disease began to take its toll. Her tenure as a caring daughter, wife and mother had instilled in her children and grandchildren a deep sense of goodness and cheer that will forever enrich this world. We love you, Mom and Grandma.
Louise is survived by five children, Anne Louise Hartle, Ivins, Utah; Terri Jean (Michael) Willey, Bountiful; Melvin Bruce Israelsen, Bountiful; Craig Allen Israelsen, Phoenix, Arizona; Brent Winso (Rebecca Walsh) Costa Rica; two stepchildren, Jeralyn Morrison, Provo and Barbara (Devan) Pack, Bountiful; 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wilford Lawrence Matkin; mother, Mabel Hannah Christopherson Matkin; sisters, Winnie and Ruth; brothers, Leo and Bert Matkin; and husband, Ira Newsome.

August 23, 2017On August 11, 2017, just four weeks after painfully telling his sweetheart Ruth "goodbye", Max A Groom joyously returned to her side where he had been for the past 72 years.
Max was born on December 26, 1922, to Charles Nathan and Maud Rachel Allen Groom in the little farming community of Garfield, Idaho. He was the oldest of four children born to that union (Max, Rex, Vada, and Gloria). Upon the death of his mother at age 12, his father married Ethel Poulson. Then two more daughters (Barbara and Helen) joined their family.
Max graduated from Ucon High School in 1941. He was fortunate to be in the last group of young men called to serve an LDS mission during WWII and diligently served in the East Canadian Mission. Upon his return, he met his sweetheart and joined the Navy. Max and Ruth were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 27, 1945. They had a year-long honeymoon in San Diego where Ruth joined Max while he served as a Naval cost inspector.
Life after WWII led Max into business. Modern Plumbing & Heating in Rigby filled his days. Night classes and serving the Lord filled his evenings. He served in the bishopric, the Young Men's organization, and scouting program until he was called as a stake clerk in 1960. For the next 22 years, he served in the Rigby Stake as a clerk, as a counselor to President Henry Piper, and then as stake president. He loved the people he worked with and came to know.
As busy as he always was, Max made time to be a good husband and father to his five children. Priceless memories were formed while hiking in the mountains, exploring new places and fishing in the great outdoors. During those times, lessons were learned and principles were taught.
Max's retirement years were filled with opportunities for service. He was elected to the Rigby City Council and enjoyed serving those in his community. One of his great loves was working in the Idaho Falls Temple where he was called as a sealer. A highlight of Max's life was being able to seal 17 of his grandchildren to their eternal companions. In their advancing years, Max and Ruth decided they needed another adventure so they eagerly accepted a call to Spain where they served an 18-month mission in Malaga and Motril. Their temple service resumed when they returned to Idaho.
Max always loved to read and learn from the pages between the covers of a book. He became a mentor and pillar of strength to his children and grandchildren. His love for Ruth and the bond between them made him the great man he became. When she left his side, his only desire was to be reunited with her. And now their beautiful "love story" continues
Surviving Max and Ruth are their three daughters, Marcia (Bruce) Johnson, Rhonda (Roger) Terry, and Diane Covington; their two daughters-in-law, Linda Pullman Groom (Richard), and Karla Vail Groom (Bryan); 19 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. Their two sons (Richard and Bryan) preceded them in death.

Her pursuit of learning continued in her adult years and she obtained a Master's Degree equivalency in Education. After her first year of teaching at Lewisville Elementary School she met the love of her life, Max Groom. They were married in the LDS Salt Lake Temple on June 27, 1945. Their first year of life together was a memorable one spent in San Diego where Max served in the Navy during WWII. She lived the remainder of her life in Idaho.
Ruth is a dedicated wife and mother whose life was characterized by a selfless love for others. Many thoughtful acts of service were quietly rendered to those in need or simply given as a gesture of kindness and love. Ruth dedicated her life to her family and serving the Lord. Ruth and Max served an LDS mission in Spain and officiated in the LDS Idaho Falls Temple for 26 years.
Ruth's greatest loves are her husband, family and her faith, which characterizes her life and the great woman that she is. Ruth is beloved by her family and will be in their hearts. She is survived by her husband, Max; daughters, Marcia Johnson (Bruce), Rhonda Terry (Roger), Diane Covington; daughters-in-laws, Karla (Bryan) and Linda (Richard); 19 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren who were the joy of her life. Her two sons, Richard and Bryan, preceded her in death and were there to welcome her home.
Ruth's passions in life include the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the scriptures, temple service and her family. She enjoyed supporting her husband in his church callings and responsibilities, teaching, baking rolls and pies, shopping, cleaning and being surrounded by the beautiful flowers that adorned their yard.
