Samuel was the daughter of Laura Snow Barrett.
He was adopted by his grandfather, John Randolph Barrett Jr.

A family reunion yesterday and dinner last evening marked the 56th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Nevel, 604 Franklin Street. Present were each of their sons and families as follows:

Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Nevel, Baltomor, Md, and one daughter, Miss Nancy Nevell; Mr. and Mrs. Harry A. Nevel, this city and children, Susan Marilan and Kevin John; Mr. and Mrs. Fenton L. Nevel and children, Stephen, Larry and Susan, all of this city.
Miss Nancy Nevel is here on leave from the U.S. Air Force with which she is serving at Travis Air Base, Calif. Only member of the family not to participate was a grandson and namesake, John Nevel, 2nd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nevel. He is attending a boy scout camp.

Mr. and Mrs. Nevel were married Aug. 11, 1903, in Picture Rocks. They have made their home in Williamsport for the last 48 years. Mrs. Nevel is the former Miss Bertha Owens. Her parents were Isaiah and Emma Jane Owens, residents of Picture Rocks, where Mr. Owens was employed in the lumber and furniture business.

Mr. Nevel, a veteran of the Spanish American War, is a past state commander of the United Spanish War Veterans and is presently commander of Camp W. F. Rick No. 47, USWV. He was custodian of Christ Episcopal Church for many years, retiring from that position several years ago. He and his wife are senior members of that parish.


30144. Creighton Williams Barrett

Creighton Williams Barrett, named after Reverend Abraham Creighton and Samuel Williams of Montoursville. He attended public schools in Montoursville until 16 years of age, and afterward worked as a furniture finisher. A few years later he took employment as trainman on the Northern Central Railroad, and subsequently operated over several eastern railroads, becoming a passenger train engineer.

52213. Grace Elizabeth Barrett

Grace E. Leiby, 92, formerly of 100 Clay St., Tamaqua, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, in Mahoning Valley Nursing and Convalescent Center, Mahoning Township. She was the wife of the late Irwin M. Leiby. She was a telephone operator for the former Reading Railroad, Tamaqua office, for many years until retiring. Born in Tamaqua, she was a daughter of the late Creighton and Martha (Southam) Barrett.

Survivors: Son, Kaye B. of Lehighton, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


52214. Charles Franklin Burke

Frank Burke, 86, retired farmer and almost a lifelong resident of this community, died Sunday at the Gentry County Memorial hospital in Albany, where he had been a patient several weeks.

Charles Franklin Burke was born Dec. 23, 1881 in DeKalb county near Winslow, son of William F. and Louella Berrett (sic) Burke, and his death was the first among their family of eight children.

As a young Mr. Burke went to Western Colorado and homesteaded for several years, after which he returned to King city and farmed until his retirement. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Christion church.

He is survived by three sons, Lloyd Burke of St. Joseph, and Chester and Lee Burke, who live in Colorado; two brothers, William P. Burke and Oscar L. Burke of King City; five sisters, Mrs. Ida McRea, Mrs. Anna Tunks and Mrs. Austa Pence, all of King City, Mrs. Edna Pierce of Union Star, and Mrs. Mildred Campbell of Wisconsin; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.


Gist Rudolph Campbell

Gist R. Campbell, 92, Medina, Ohio, formerly of Kansas City, died Sept. 9, 1993, in Overland Park. Cremation. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.

Mr. Campbell was born in Maysville, Mo., and lived in this area, Florida and Wisconsin before moving to Medina five years ago. He was a branch manager for the Allis-Chalmers Corp. before he retired. He was a Mason.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice Walker, Lenexa, and Carol Buck, Medina; a sister, Oleva Reynolds, Sun City, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grand-children.

Charles Allen Reed, 69, of Williamsport RD1 died yesterday, Saturday March 2, 1963 at 9:30 a.m. in the Divine Providence Hospital. A native of Montoursville, he resided at Williamsport RD for most of his life. He worked for 25 years in the Sylvan Dell launch and was later employed by Jones & Laughlin Co. of Muncy. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 970 of this city.

Surviving are his wife the former Ida Tawney; 2 sons, Clyde of this city and William of Williamsport RD; 3 daughters, Mrs. Edward Hamm and Mrs. Charles Kriner both of Williamsport RD and Mrs. Henry Kiessling of the city; a brother, Floyd of Montoursville, a sister Mabel Schweikle of Florida. There are 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Lock Haven July 19 - Mrs. Ocie E. Ray, wife of George T. Ray of Mill Halldied suddenly at her home yesterday afternoon at 6:20 of angina pectoria. She was aged 66 years and had been a life long resident of Mill Hall. She was respected and loved by all and her sudden death came as a shock to the entire community.

Since her early girlhood she had been a member of the Mill Hall Methodist church and was active in all of its organizations. She had been a teacher in the sunday school for many years and at the time of her death was president of the Mite Society the leading woman's organization of the church.

She leaves her husband, one son, Robert Murray, by a former marriage, both of Mill Hill, three brothers and five sisters: A. M. Crispen and Mrs. W. C. Bressler, both of Johnstown, Grant Crispen, of Dubois, John B, Crispen, of Milton, Mrs. Ray Lenker, of Harrisburg, Mrs, Grant Armstrong of Warren; Mrs. Lucy Irwin, of Long Island City, New York and Mrs. Margaret McCloskey, of Lock Haven.
