Eunice Lucille Covell-Barber, Grand Rapids, MI. Formerly of Vicksburg, MI Passed away August 10, 2004, in Grand Rapids Veterans Home at age 93.

Eunice was born in Charleston Township, MI, October 15, 1910, to Charles C. Covell and Mary Ruth Berger Covell.

Eunice was the oldest of eleven children. Five have preceded her in death, Ilah Hayword, Ralph, Dorothy Irene Hunt, Carl and Mary Lou.

Surviving are Iva Sadie, Vernette Churchill, Lois Covell, Clyde and Avis Hayward.

Douglas Lyle Barber (a World War I veteran) and Eunice were married February 26, 1943. They lived in Auburn, Indiana. Douglas died in 1953.

Eunice graduated from Galesburg High School in 1928, while living with the Paul and Urith Clapp family. She joined the Galesburg Congregational Church the same year. Her career included employment at the Vicksburg paper Mill and housemother at the V.F.W. National Home for Children in Eaton Rapids. Eunice was the first life member of Portage V.F.W. Auxiliary 5855. Legally blind, she was known for her most cheerful attitude. As a generous volunteer for the Vicksburg Hospital group, she was active in fund raising and her beautiful crochet works. Eunice happily resided in the Veterans Home since June 8, 1991.

Ilah Mae Hayward a longtime resident of Vicksburg and former business owner within the community died on Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.

Born on the family farm just outside Galesburg on August 27th, 1913, she graduated from Galesburg High School in 1931.

She married Roger Hayward on August 26th 1933 and together they owned and operated a farm just outside of Vicksburg until 1969. They then lived several years at Indian Lake before moving to the village of Vicksburg in the early 1990's. During the 1950's and 1960's Ilah and her sister in law Doris Hayward owned and operated the Hat and Gown shop in Vicksburg. Over the years Ilah was active in the Farm Bureau and the Vicksburg United Methodist Church.

Members of her family include her husband Roger, three daughters: Elaine and her husband Jerry Chew of Scottsdale Arizona, Sharon L Harding of Chillicothe OH, and Ann and her husband Pete Barbuto of Park Ridge IL. She also has 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 6 brothers and sisters, and many other nieces nephews and other cousins.

She follows in death her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Roger Hayward, age 102, passed away on July 16, 2011 in Chillicothe, Ohio.

Roger's family includes his three children: Elaine (Jerry) Chew, Sharon Harding and Ann Hayward; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Ilah.

Roger was a pioneer Dairy Farmer who enjoyed his family and friends, as well as, fishing and waterskiing.

Coville, Robert B. of Climax, MI, died Tuesday December 3, 2002. Bob was born February 11, 1913 in Charleston Township, the son of William and Ella (Randall) Coville. He farmed in the Climax area, was a member of the Climax Farm Bureau, Charleston Club and Battle Creek Seventh Day Adventist Church. During the winter months, Bob had worked for Webb Coal company in the 1940's and worked on the railroad in Augusta loading coal and water during the 1950's. Bob had also been a school bus driver for the Climax-Scotts Schools for many years. On March 14, 1941 he was united in marriage to Donna G. (Reinbold), who preceded him in death on November 15, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother Ray Coville.

Surviving are two stepsons: Frank (Darlene) Scramlin of Nashville and Wendell (Marilyn) Scramlin of Climax foster son: George Reinbold of Rapid River eight grandchildren several great-grandchildren two brothers: Wilbur (Shirley) Coville of Climax and Merle (Earline) Coville of Scotts three sisters: Hazel Kaiser of Fort Myers, FL, Bertha (Arthur) Buchko of Battle Creek and Leila (Max) Godshalk of Bristol, IN many nieces and nephews.

Interment will follow in Roof Cemetery.

Donna G. Coville, 88, of Climax, died Friday, November 15, 2002. Donna was born March 26, 1914, in Vicksburg, Michigan, the daughter of George and Helena (Krey) Reinbold.

Donna was an accomplished artist who loved all plants, flowers and animals, especially her horses. Her greatest joy was her trip to the Holy Land. Donna was a volunteer for the National Association For Family and Community Education and a member of the Battle Creek Seventh Day Adventist Church.

On March 14, 1941, she was united in marriage to Robert Bruce Coville, who survives. Also surviving are sons: Frank (Darlene) Scramlin of Nashville, Wendell (Marilyn) Scramlin of Climax, foster son: George Reinbold of Rapid River, eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, brothers: Kenneth (Dorothy) Reinbold of Vicksburg, Arnold (Esther) Reinbold of Kalamazoo, sister: Corlon Halsey of Edmore, many nieces and nephews. Donna was preceded in death by sisters: Mary Ann Reinbold, Leone Brockway and brothers: Lloyd and Harley.

Interment in Roof Cemetery.

Hazel June (Coville) Kaiser, 88, formerly of Battle Creek and Climax died peacefully Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida. She was born June 21, 1915 in Charleston Township, Michigan, the daughter of William and Ella (Randall) Coville. She married Clifford William Kaiser on June 21, 1942, in Kalamazoo and they made their home in Climax and then Battle Creek.

She is survived by two daughters: Janice Kay, wife of David Owen, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Violet Elaine, wife of Steven Kuntz, Hillsboro, Ohio; two brothers: Wilbur Coville, Climax, Michigan, and Merle Coville, Scotts, Michigan; two sisters: Bertha Buchko, Battle Creek and Leila Godshalk, Bristol, Indiana; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Clifford, on April 10, 1996; and two brothers: Ray Coville in 1995 and Robert Coville in 2002.

Hazel was a homemaker all her life and enjoyed crocheting. She has recently lived near her daughter Janice in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Fort Myers, Florida, as a resident of Villa Palms Senior Living Center.

Services at Memorial Park Cemetery, Battle Creek.

Mrs. Bertha Beatrice (Coville) Buchko, 87, of Battle Creek, died Saturday, April 23, 2005 at Evergreen Manor in Springfield. She was born July 28, 1917 in Climax the daughter of William Coville and Ella (Randall) Coville. She graduated from Climax Schools in 1937. Bertha was employed by a family in Climax for several years and later at the Burgess Seed and Plant Company in Galesburg.She married Arthur Stephen Buchko on September 14, 1948 in Galesburg. Arthur died November 13, 2003.

Bertha is survived by Sons: Duane Buchko, Homewood, Illinois; Clarence Buchko, Lansing; Craig Buchko, Dallas, Texas; and Alan Buchko, Battle Creek; Sister: Leila Godshalk, Bristol, Indiana; Brothers: Merle Coville, Scotts; and Wilbur Coville, Climax; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers: Robert Coville and Ray Coville; and sister: Hazel Kaiser.

She enjoyed dancing, crocheting and was a volunteer at the Valentine Center for many years.

Burial will be at the Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens in Emmett Township.


Arthur Stephen Buchko

Arthur Stephen Buchko, 88, of Battle Creek, MI., died Thursday, November 13, 2003 at Evergreen Manor in Springfield, MI. He was born September 26, 1915 in Enderby, British Columbia, the son of Arthur John Buchko and Elsie May (Baird) Buchko. He moved to the United States before he was a year old and graduated from high School in Ironwood, Michigan. After graduating from high school in Ironwood, MI, he went to work at the Presbyterian Home in Evanston, IL, until joining the U.S. Army. He served in the Army during WWII as a corporal from 1941 to 1945. He served in the 831st Engineer Battalion as a medical corpsman and surgical technician. He received a Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, and six overseas service bars. After the service, he moved to Battle Creek where he was employed by the Battle Creek Veteran's Medical Center as a physical therapist. He retired in January 29, 1977.

He married Bertha Beatrice (Coville) Buchko of Battle Creek, MI on September 14, 1948 in Galesburg, MI. He is survived by Wife: Bertha Beatrice Buchko, Battle Creek, MI. Sons: Duane Buchko, Homewood, IL, Clarence Buchko, Lansing, MI, Craig Buchko, Dallas, TX, Alan Buchko, Battle Creek, MI., Sisters: Kathryn Hanson, Seattle, WA, Gertrude Postill, Gulfport, MS, 7 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 brothers.
He enjoyed yard work and flowers. He was a member of the Burnham Brook Center, V.F.W., American Legion, Masonic Lodge, and the former president of the AFL Lodge #1629.

Burial will be at the Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens in Emmett Township.

BRISTOL, Ind. �  Max A. Godshalk, 70, 19512 C.R. 8, died at 4:51 a.m. Friday at his residence. He was born June 5, 1936, in Elkhart, to Henry J. and Marjorie H. (Neely) Godshalk. He married Leila M. Coville June 27, 1964, in Kalamazoo, Mich. She survives in Bristol.

A 1954 Bristol High School graduate, he retired in 1998 from CTS Corp. after 36 years. He was a screw machine operator. He was a farmer and a John Deere tractor buff. He liked to work on small engines, do crossword puzzles and fish. He was an Army veteran.

Along with his wife, he is survived by a son, Randy (Amy) Godshalk, Schererville; a daughter, Amy (Mark) Hardin, Bristol; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Ann (Earl) Congdon, Bristol, and Lois Bostian, Elkhart.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Bristol.
